Report: Arsenal back on the Lorient express with bid for young striker

According to Get French Football News, Arsenal have had a bid for forward Alexis Claude Maurice rebuffed.

The Gunners have reportedly gone back to Lorient, from whom we bought Matteo Guendouzi last year, to snaffle more young talent as we begin our summer rebuilding.

Amid interest from Rennes and other French outfits, our first bid was rejected but an increased offer is expected as the club look to secure the services of the 20 year old who scored 14 times as Lorient finished 6th in Ligue 2 last season.

Speculation grew this week when Guendouzi and Claude Maurice were spotted together in London and pictures spread on social media (this is 2019 folks, that’s how it works now!).

He also fits into the target demographic of this summer, with young upcoming talent that won’t break the bank the driver to this window’s business.

Arsenal already have young Brazilian forward Gabriel Martinelli arriving this summer, Reiss Nelson coming back from loan at Hoffenheim looking to fight for a first team place, and another quick attacking midfielder/forward would radically alter the make-up of the squad and perhaps indicate that we’re moving in a particular direction this summer.

There does seem to be a bit of smoke around this one, although we’re not sure quite how much fire, so a middling 5 on the Poo-O-Meter will work.

Didn’t score a header for once is he Pep guadiola, I wish we would sign Thomas Partey I’d be more than happy together with Rabiot

Tas_Gunner

Rabiot will really suit our fanbase tbf

Dave Cee

Partey is a good player

Goooooooner for life

From what a 2 minute video can tell me, I prefer him to Fraser. The speed and acceleration on that boy is fire!

Tasmanian Jesus

Me too!

Mohamed Nagi

I’ve seen same too

Seth

His shooting technique looks phenomenal in that video. Of course…you don’t see the misses…

Tasmanian Jesus

Try and find a video compilation of that!
Haha

Let the scouting begin!

Chrispy

Takes Welbeck’s spot In the squad so a good moves it happens.

Salomon Kalou..

Tas_Gunner

If only Nketiah was a foreign signing and called Nketinho…

Evaristus

?
Funny, sad and true…

Dave Cee

Maybe Nketiah should go on loan to the Championship and score a goal every other game and he would have more trust shown in him. I.m not belittling Eddie by the way, I really like him, but he is younger than this guy and doesn.t have rhe same goalscoring pedigree in senior football. Maybe he can score the Europa League final winning goal and thrust himself onto centre stage..here is hoping

Faisal Narrage

Well hard to score whilst rotting away on the bench and being blocked by loans. He was wanted by a decent German team, but fans are more excited by an older french striker playing in Ligue 2 (pretty much the equivalent to our Ligue 1). I’m fairly confident Eddie would bang at that level, but instead looks like his development is about to be blocked for someone of a similar level. No wonder youth are considering leaving arsenal. Listening to the latest arseblog pod, I can understand why youth prospects were pissed over the Denis Suarez signing. Did he deserve… Read more »

Anonymarse

Did score his first goal. Maybe now he will score more.

Glory Hunter

He looks impressive

SeryxMe

Looks like an Mbappe type of player which is good, but that’s just from a very short video. Is he better than Nketiah? ??‍♂️

Anonymarse

Even if he is only similar to Nketiah it would be nice to have two of them

Faisal Narrage

Considering both will be behind both Lacca and Auba, you can’t offer the same player development time to both, one will have to get more chances than the other.

I’d rather Eddie get that.

Red-Sky

What kind of forward?
In transfermarket he’s main position is attacking midfielder.

JamesGodwinson

I would prefer Nketiah.

ScreamAtMe

He appears to finish how I would like our midfielders to

Dave Cee

Yeah, he does hit the ball pretty sweetly on that evidence

allezkev

John Jules might have second thoughts about signing a new contract?

Anonymarse

Smell the burning poo

Rich

Not sure what this says to the likes of Nketiah, Nelson, Saka? Unless we’re absolutely certain this guy is an upgrade? Then can’t say I’m overly enthusiastic of flooding the path to the first team from our academy with unnecessary foreign imports.

Badaab

I have vague memories of using this guy in pro evo manager mode 2 seasons ago- lightning quick on the left side of a front 3.
Does that translate to his actual qualities? Dunno, but he’s an exciting prospect.

Jay

So division 2 French football is comparable to the English Premier league? Who knew?
