Iwobi picks up bronze medal as AFCON campaign ends on a high

Alex Iwobi will head off on holiday with a bronze medal in his pocket after Nigeria beat Tunisia 1-0 in the African Cup of Nations third-place play-off.

Obviously, such games are nonsense, but fair play to our man who, by most accounts, has had a decent tournament.

Odion Ighalo grabbed the only goal of the game after three minutes.

“It’s a great achievement considering the quality of oppositions in the tournament, 24 teams – especially considering the fact that this team is still very young,” Iwobi told reporters after the game.

He added: ”I’m sure we can do better than this in the next Africa Cup of Nations.

”I want to say a big thank you to our fans for their support all through competition. We will always do our best for them.”

Nigeria lost out on a place in the final on Sunday when Riyad Mahrez bagged a 95th-minute winner in Cairo.

Iwobi will likely take three weeks off to recuperate before being eased into a delayed pre-season at London Colney.

Well done Iwobi.

“One of our own”

Learn to love this boy c*nts , he is better than you understand . Now move him into the center.

Zaha has told Crystal Palace that he wants to leave the club. Why don’t we try to sign Toby Alderweild as a free transfer, even if we end up selling mustafi to Spuds

SharpasFc

What the heck has this to do with the story about Iwobi?

Almọnd

I didn’t know I was thinking out loud

“… even if we end up selling Mustafi to Spuds.”!!The Spuds have their faults, don’t we all know, but I don’t think Mr Levy is stupid. Why on earth would they move for Mustafi? He is, and let’s be frank about it, a hopeless central defender at the top level. Those people in Valencia saw us coming many miles off when we bought him for a staggering £35 million (still makes him one of the most expensive central defenders). Hear them laughing, even now … . Yep. Thanks to old Arsene, we then pay him £150,000 a week for making… Read more »

Deadly dull and boring game, but well done to Alex..looking forward to seeing him get more game time in centre of midfield.

Not so sure he has had a decent tournament…

IMO he was pretty average at best. Iwobi played as a CAM but he was quite poor in his decision making. Furthermore his defensive contribution was far too low.

Question: Is Iwobi good enough for the Arsenal?

Deo

I hope he picks up his game from this experience. There’s more of a player in there and we need him.

My Cousin Vinai

I’d love to see a midfield diamond-3 with Torreira at base flanked by Iwobi and Guendouzi.
We would have numbers in the midfield (not a fan of the double pivot anymore); tenacity and athleticism from Torreira (along with good use on the ball), the metronomic running and passing of Guendouzi to control games and the physicality and direct dribbling from Iwobi to link the midfield to the front 3 and also avoid the press opposing teams will put on us.

I AM ARSENAL

Cmon Iwobi become that Diaby type midfielder we need but Wont and cant buy.
