Arsenal draw Nottingham Forest in Carabao Cup

Arsenal will take on Nottingham Forest in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

The match will be played at the Emirates on either the 24th or 25th September.

We lost to Forest 4-2 in the FA Cup a couple of seasons back and beat them  4-0 in this competition at the City Ground in 2016.

The draw means an early reunion with Carl Jenkinson, which will be nice for him.

Last year we beat Brentford and Blackpool before losing 2-0 to Sp*rs at home. We’ve not actually won the League Cup since 1993; a whopping 26 years ago.

USGOONER wins the comments.

A Different George

Doesn’t Smith Row count as two?

locksley444

Emi Martinez should get the nod too right? Robbie Burton probably should as well. Mavropanos might not be fit by then but hopefully he is.

Richie

Yep I’d expect Martinez. Holding should also be ready by then too.

Richie

Ozil will surely play in this game.

hustle6

seems his level. But maybe he won’t feel up for it on the day.

Bodie CI5

About time we won this trophy again

Three Steps Sideways

I am content with this draw. A home game and a decent enough level of competition that should hopefully mean that their isn’t any complacency within the squad, whilst also allowing the possibility of playing some deserving fringe squad members who wouldn’t normally get a run out against top class opposition.

Here’s hoping they grasp the opportunity.

Twatsloch

Welcome back, Carl.

Their new coach clearly moved them on. Lewis Grabban’s goal last week involving all 10 outfield players was an absolute beauty. Let’s hope they’re off the boil next month.

Fart Overjars

An interesting but probably also dumb hypothetical:

Would you rather us field a team of youngsters vs Forrest, both high profile and not.

OR

a team of legends from our invincible winning season?

(They could start training for it now lads and be fit and ready for sept 24th.)

Reality check

Sorry Bud, our transfer window have been shut for a while now.. You’re smoking some good sh!t.. enjoy

Goonerink

to be fair, we could sign pretty much the whole team on a free transfer now they are all in their 40s. are any invincible main stays still playing?

Goonerink

quick google shows kolo toure, gael clichy and jeremie aliadiere are playing for celtic, basaksehir and lorient respectively.
so everyone apart from them are available….

Richie

Gael Clichy playing for İstanbul Başakşehir and Justin Hoyte playing for Cincinnati I believe are the last two. Clichy played 12 times that season, Hoyte played once. Fabregas was in the squad but didn’t make a league appearance that season.

Francesc

Fuck this cup

A P

Can you demonstrate how?

PolyEmery

Not entirely sure I want to witness this…

GeoffRey Hurstmaker

Play the youngsters. Come what may.

Imustafiyou

It is good to have a home match rather than away match. Hope Emery played most of the teenagers.

Limey

It must be in the rules that Chelsea get a home draw against the lowest ranked team left.
We will be OK – just play the kids.

Sue

We owe them!!

Football does have a funny way of working like this. I’m sure we ended up playing Montpelier the season after we signed Giroud?

Wolfgang

There have been some shock results . I think those big teams have sent their 2nd string to test the waters and have been found out. Its a different story in the epl where wealth continues to dominate at least 70% of the time. If the FA aint careful the epl will be reduced to only a handful of 3 to 5 clubs dominating which aint good .Like in Germany,Spain and France. However I take heart that CP beat MU. That shows a manager with the right tactics can beat the big teams to show the latter they haven’t got… Read more »

utd were shit tbf. but on your original point. i dont think that will happen soon.

wolves, fulham, villa. all came up from the 2nd domestic division and spent 100m on new players.
name me another country where that has happened once let alone 3 times in 12 months…
weaker Premier league (refuse to call it EPL) teams can still smash medium sized clubs from other nations when it comes to transfer clout.
shocks can happen, see Leicesters miracle, i doubt theyd have tielemans if they hadnt been a PL winner this decade…

What exactly is the Carabao Cup and why is it needed? Sounds like just another excuse to play more games and bleed more money from insatiable fans–as if there aren’t way too many soccer matches already. Carabao Cup, FA Cup, Derbys, Champions League, Euro Qualifying, WC qualifying, excessive number of PL games. It’s ridiculously. I read that a starter for Ajax last year stared 61 games–61. And I’m sure that’s true of lots of players from top teams. A bit much, as they say.

Santori

Mickey mouse cup. Jenkinson is in the right league at last.

We need to focus on FA cup minimal and top 4 trophy that some people use to castigate Wenger for.

Maybe Europa (I have my doubts)

Should not try and go on all 4 fronts. Squad is still very thin in certain areas.

Buffalo cup should heavily feature younger players (ala Wenger years).

Goonerink

I thumbed this up purely because I didn’t have to scroll until my thumb fell off to get to the end for once!
