Injury stops prolific Balogun in his tracks

Things were going very well for Folarin Balogun, with the striker having earned his first call-up to the Arsenal senior squad for the Carabao Cup clash against Nottingham Forest last week.

After he took his tally at U23 level this season to seven goals in as many games with a brace against Liverpool, it was anticipated that further first-team involvement would soon be forthcoming for Balogun.

There had been suggestions that Balogun could make the bench for tonight’s Europa League game against Standard Liege, but the prospect has been ruled out through injury.

The news is particularly frustrating for Balogun as it comes at a time when Tyreece John-Jules is also out injured and he perhaps would have had a chance to go ahead of his fellow young striker in the pecking order.

Nonetheless, if he continues to work hard and impress at youth level then Balogun surely won’t have to wait too long until his next involvement with Unai Emery’s squad.

Much more than just a goalscorer, Balogun frequently impresses with his pace and technique. This is a minor setback for him, but he will be back in the frame soon and when his chance in the first-team does eventually arrive he will be determined to take it.

It’s s real shame for both Folarin and Tyreece as I for one was hoping that at least one of them would have made the bench for tonight’s game.
Wishing them a speedy recovery in time for the next Europa League match day.
