Arsenal Women Draw PSG in Champions League Quarter-Final

Arsenal Women will play against Paris Saint Germain Feminines in the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-finals in March, with the first leg due to be played in London on the week commencing 23rd March and the second leg to take place a week later in Paris.

The Gunners reached the quarter-finals via a 6-0 aggregate win over Fiorentina in the Round of 32 and a thumping 13-2 aggregate win over Slavia Praha in the round of 16. However, they won’t have things as easy on this occasion against PSG, who were knocked out of last season’s competition by a last minute winner from Chelsea.

PSG boast talent such as 41-year old Brazilian international Formiga, German midfielder Sara Dabritz and Chilean goalkeeper Christiane Endler. Arsenal may well be slight favourites for the tie with the bookies, but it will be a very close call.

If Arsenal go through, they will play the winner of Lyon v Bayern Munich in the semi-final. The full draw is below:

Atletico Madrid v Barcelona
Olympique Lyonnais v Bayern Munchen Frauen
Glasgow City v Wolfsburg
Arsenal v Paris Saint Germain

It’s not Lyon so il take it. I think it’s a winnable draw but it should be close. If we can keep everyone healthy we have a good shot. That semi draw though….

Onenil

You look at the clubs, and it is a European elite. This is where The Arsenal need to be
In the Women’s game we are right up there on merit.

Crash Fistfight

Probably the 2nd-best draw Arsenal could have got? Anybody know?

Stillberto

Pretty much. Though there’s little between PSG, Bayern and Atleti I’d say.

Peter Story Teller

Will be interesting if Bayern can turn over Lyon and we meet them in the semi-final since some of our players know them well!
Just read that 18 of our players are on international duty between now and Tuesday which doesn’t leave us with many. Fingers crossed they all get back next week without injury.

Christopher Humphrey

Just trying to figure this out. Is it 6 of our squad with a Bayern connection?
Incredibly, excluding our under 20’s, the remaining 20 of our squad are all full internationals. That must set some sort of record?
Oh the Draw? Nice one

Peter Story Teller

I reckon it is Manu, Leonie, Jill, Viki, Viv, and Lisa so six in total. Have we left anyone out Tim?

Christopher Humphrey

Seems that Kim & Jen were out of the Scotland team today because of “niggles”?

Peter Story Teller

Rather that they are rested for “niggles” rather than be played against a much lower rated team that Scotland would expect to beat regardless and then be sent back to North London with a more serious injury.

Christopher Humphrey

Joe will hold a training seance on Monday…….”Is anybody there?”?

JohnnyCash

PSG is a top club, very effective! 4-3-3 with dangerous CF and clever players in the middlefield. I think it’s 50/50.

Peter Story Teller

Realistically at this stage of the Champions League 50/50 is about as good as it gets so we can live with that.
I think the only game that would have a clear favourite is Wolfsburg over Glasgow but I wouldn’t even attempt to predict who will make the final.
Arsenal have had a few seasons in the doldrums but they were once a name to be feared through previously winning the competition and they shall be one of the teams everyone wants to avoid again with the current squad having no weak area anywhere on the pitch.
