Tierney shoulder injury being assessed

Earlier today, David Ornstein reported in The Athletic (£) that Kieran Tierney has been nursing a shoulder problem in recent weeks.

Hours later, he went down during Arsenal’s 3-1 win over West Ham and left the pitch with his shirt being used as a makeshift sling for his right arm.

After the game, Freddie Ljungberg revealed that the Scot had gone to the hospital to be assessed.

“Tierney, I think it’s something with his shoulder but I don’t know exactly what it is,” said the boss.

“But obviously we had to take him off so I think he’s going to maybe go to hospital and check what it is.”

If it’s a dislocation, he could be out for months. Even if it’s not as serious as that, there’s a fairly high chance he could miss a significant chunk of the festive period when games come every few days.

Coming so soon after his recovery from a hernia operation, it’s very frustrating for both the player and the club. We wish him a swift recovery.

There was also an update on Hector Bellerin, sidelined for a couple of weeks by a tight hamstring, who pulled out of the starting lineup just before kick-off.

“Hector had a bit of feeling, I think, in his hamstring in the warm-up,” confirmed Ljungberg.

“Then we took the decision. I said I’m not going to force anyone to play if you don’t feel 100 per cent.

“So we took him off and had a straight swap on that with Ainsley, and Ainsley had been out in the cold for a little bit and comes on and does really well, so I’m really proud of him and happy for him.”

Freddie’s a classy guy. Loved how he celebrated the win. Haow the players ran up to him and hugged him. How he Pepe’s ear-to-ear grin when subbed. Ozil lauding him in his post-match interview.

Imagine your dream job at the company you absolutely love suddenly and miraculously landed in your lap and all anyone can do is talk about who you’re going to be replaced with. I really, really REALLY want Freddie to do extremely well (as slim as that might be).

Damn fat fingers, autocorrect and early mornings.

It was still more legible than other things I have seen. I think we all want Freddie to lead us to the promised land. However, if he wants a permanent job, he needs an unbeaten run until March or something – which, you know, is tough.

The satisfaction of a gunner managing The Arsenal to success is huge.

We had about 18 months of what seemed to be an alien style of play.

Hope from now its onwards and upwards.

And this is why Emery did not start our 2 first choice full back as much as we like. Both came back from injury, 1 is yet to adapt to English physicality, another rely on his running so much.

up against spl wingers all his life.

Overhyped crock. What a disaster of a signing

I expect these 15 down votes to change once its announced that he’ll be out for the season

Time will tell on that, and despite you being a troll it is a worry.

Feast your eyes on that injury record. The kid isnt even 25 yet

In what world has this been a good signing? And dont give me guff about his crossing ability, andy carroll got an assist at the weekend

Upamecano but downalego

He’s 22 years old and has played nearly 200 professional games. Of the injuries listed only 3 times has he missed more than 3 games, the rest are just knocks which all footballers get. Given what’s required for full backs these days, and the dynamism of a player like Tierney this is completely understandable. Clearly you’ve spent more time researching what’s ’wrong’ with him, so why not research the good stuff like his Champions League performances against some of Europe’s best wingers? And who would you rather we had got for £25m? Like your namesake you’re full of waste gasses… Read more »

Time will tell if you’re right. But if he gets ruled out for the season, you’ll have to admit this has been a bad signing.

He wasn’t even starting when he was fit

The jury is well and truly out

Upamecano but downalego

If he gets ruled out for this season regarding an injury to his hips (his main area of concern) I can see your point to a degree, but in the long term I think we’ll end up with one of the best left backs in Europe. Though this injury to his shoulder was quite a freak incident, could’ve happened to anyone to be fair, I’d sooner blame the AFC injury curse haha And in response to him not starting when fit, I think there was an element of easing him in and also some ‘Emery logic’ which I’m not sure… Read more »

Time to appreciate the full backs who are always fit and ready for us.

Kola and maitland niles played well last night.

Especially the fact that Kolasinac wasn’t even going to be in the 18 until Bellerin’s injury! Thought he did great considering an hour earlier he would have expected to be in the stands.

Kanu Believe It

If Tierney wasn’t so injury prone, he would have cost a damn site more and probably have gone somewhere else.

Twatsloch

Only a month ago we were 100% injury free and playing shite. We start playing a bit better and the injuries start lining up.

Santori

Arse luck. Hope for a speedy recovery. That said, didn’t think there was any particular “Master class” from Tierney. In fact thought he was struggling quite a bit with Snodgrass. Gave up a free kick on the edge, had his handful defensively as mentioned, too many people prefer to imagine non existent capabilities. Tierney is decent but I don’t think you can take it away from Kolasinac who has also been pretty good. Fantastic drive and cut back for the goal that many would prefer not to mention. And I thought he made sure Snodgrass knew who he was up… Read more »

Get well soon Tierney. I think the big Bosnian has actually played alright the last 3 games and am hopeful that will continue. Too bad Blogs hates him though.

Fatgooner

I hope Tierney doesn’t turn out to be another sick note like Van Persie
