Arsenal given FA Cup Monday slot…again

Arsenal’s FA Cup 5th round clash with Portsmouth at Fratton Park has been scheduled for Monday, 2nd March at 7.45pm.

It is the third game in this season’s competition in a row that will have been given the Monday slot following our wins against Leeds and Bournemouth in January. Which, let’s be honest, is rubbish.

The game will be live broadcast in the UK on BT Sport.

The last time Arsenal played Pompey away in the FA Cup we beat them 5-1 and received a standing ovation from their fans. It would be nice if that happened again.

I don’t like Mondays…as they sing.

Bob

Tell me why?

C.B.

I want to shoot
The whole day down.

Big Dave

At least we’re guaranteed a place in the draw for the next round.

Jonathan

The games are all midweek, so presumably the draw won’t happen till all matches have been played? And we are first up.

Martin

We are the first tie played as all the matches are played in midweek so that’s not true

Bill Ireland

And 3 Monday league matches. I don’t understand why Arsenal is the favorite team for Monday but I sure wish it would stop.

Limpar from the halfway line

Not me! It’s become a habit this year that I can watch the games with my 8 year old. He’s just reached the age where he finally gets it and is becoming a big arsenal fan. He gets to stay up late and fetch me beer, we sit and get drunk (me on beer, him on fruit shoots) and eat crap. It’s fucking magic!

David Hillier's luggage

That’ll be out sixth Monday game this season. In contrast we’ve played only three on a Sat at 3pm

My biggest gripe with the Europa! Just nowhere ear as fun going to games now that there are so few opportunities to have a couple of (guilt free) beers. Particularly given how much the alcohol would help with the benign dross we’re often watching..

Richie

This is good news. It gives us the rest of the week to prepare for the weekend fixture (West Ham, Saturday, 3pm).

Right Across Sunderland!

Almost as big a piss take as Liverpool+VAR. We need to sign this VAR chap up asap. He’s worth 40 points a season and a good cup run (not that we’re anywhere near LiVARpool’s quality anyway, but it is what it is).

These crappy fixture dates ate why I’m leaning towards not wanting us in the Europa League next season. Thursday/Sunday is pants. And Mondays.

Pooner

I think our fixture timings have been even worse than usual this season.

GraeB

So all we have now is the Monday Cup and the Thursday Cup.

Given M27 traffic, I may skip Pompey and see why we look so good on TV!

Fatgooner

Stop bitching!!

We’ve got a great draw and should go through; then it’s just one game to Wembley.

As the PL is boring and meaningless the two cups are where the action is. The EL is the most important prize, for obvious reasons, but a FA Cup win would be great too.

Come on you Reds!!!!

Santori

Incredibly positive of you but yes, the cups are where we need to push right now.

PL we will try and sneak into 6th or higher but if we win one of the cups, it will engender further faith in the manager otherwise it would be frankly not good enough.

Vaibhav

This is inconsiderate to people watching from far east

SB Still

I would think pretty much every part of the world, as it’s a week day, including the travelling fans.

Martin

All the cup ties are midweek

Tim Langedijk

Than we have to play better!

Santori

This is becoming a critical competition for us to save something of this season and at least put a slight gloss to an otherwise perturbing descend in status. It looks increasingly unlikely we will nip into CL. Europa spots still a remote possibility. In the Europa, we have a chance but I would not bank money solely on it. So its a two prong approach with BOTH Europa AND FA. Hopefully one will pan out for us. If we are successful, it may have some bearing in keeping players this summer and avoiding a complete over haul for which likely… Read more »

Arsenal are a mid table team at the same level as Everton and Newcastle.
What do you expect?
Liverpool and Man City are the big draws for the TV viewers.
Its time that forums like Arseblog started to realise this.
Arsenal are not competitive..

ClockEndRider

I think we play the previous Thursday night so this spaces our games out rather than playing within 2 or 3 days. If we weren’t in the Europa Cup of Champions Mickey Mouse Cup then I would agree that this is an issue. But we are. So it’s not.

Sounds like Lionel Messi is up for a new challenge. The premier league is the best league in the world.
How close was he with Mikel at La Masia ? ?
(Do you see where I’m going here)

I will ask my boss and relay the answer here if I get at least 100 upvotes and zero downvotes ?

Nzini

I guess it’s over with the single downvote

Kampala gooner ?

Lets just win by 5 and make it all worthwhile

Onenil

That 5-1 was one of my favourite games ever. Peak Henry, we were incredible and their fans were class.
Fond memories!

Jeff

I fucking detest BT! It’s an acronym for Bastard Thieves ya know ?

MiMilkshakeWeighsATon

Those horrible words “BT Sport”

Arsepedant

I’m guessing we got the Monday spot because our Sunday match against Man $chitty got postponed. The crappy date/time for fans aside, it’s actually a decent date for the squad. We’ll have more rest time before the match than Pompey and five days off before the next league match.
