Brazil’s under-23s have selected Gabriel Martinelli for a training camp during March’s Interlull as they prepare for the Tokyo Olympics in August.
Brazil were scheduled to play friendly games against South Korea and Egypt in the United Arab Emirates but both have been cancelled due to the threat posed by coronavirus. It’s possible new fixtures could be arranged.
Brazil qualified for the XXXII Olympiad last month when they finished runners-up in the final stage of the 2020 CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament in Colombia.
Martinelli was due to feature in that competition but Arsenal, as was their right, wouldn’t release him as the matches fell outside the agreed FIFA calendar.

The latest call-up suggests that Martinelli is definitely under consideration for a trip to Japan in late July which would put his involvement in the opening weeks of the new Premier League campaign in doubt.
The Olympic Committee maintains that Tokyo 2020 will go ahead despite the current quarantine lockdowns that are affecting large swathes of the world.
