Emma Mitchell joins Reading

Arsenal left-back Emma Mitchell has joined Reading Women ending a seven year spell at Arsenal. The Scottish defender’s contract still had a year to run, but with Steph Catley, Katie McCabe and Noelle Maritz in the squad, Mitchell has been allowed to leave.

Mitch joined Arsenal from German club Essen in the summer of 2013. She has won two FA Cups, three Conti Cups and a league title during her stint at the club. She spent the second half of the 2019-20 season on loan at Spurs. She was voted into the PFA Team of the Year in 2015.

Emma missed the second half of the 2018-19 season due to anxiety issues and subsequently struggled to win her place back in the team. She did score a memorable winner in the final minutes of the final game of that season with a winning goal against Manchester City.

Emma was a hugely popular member of the squad with her teammates and was the longest serving player in the squad after Jordan Nobbs and Leah Williamson. She joins Reading alongside fellow former Gunner Danielle Carter. All the best to Mitch for the future.

Hopefully her issues are behind her now and Mitch can flourish in her new environment.

Good luck Mitch & Dan. I for one will remember the joy of those goals. Dan’s Wembley winner & Mitch’s end of season blast.
Your characters will be missed by us fans and probably moreso by your team mates.
