Martinelli set for U23 run-out this month

Arsenal hope that Gabriel Martinelli’s recovery from a serious knee injury will see the Brazilian take part in an U23 game before the month is out.

He has been involved in training for a few weeks now, but after such a lengthy absence his return is being managed carefully.

The 19 year old sustained the injury in the dying moments of a training session in June, and last appeared for us in the 2-0 FA Cup win over Portsmouth on March 2nd.

After a hugely promising first season, Mikel Arteta will be hoping there are no setbacks for the forward who would certainly add another exciting option in the final third. Martinelli scored 10 goals and made 4 assists before injury struck, and despite some talk of him not being used by Arteta, he appeared in 9 of the 15 games we played before lockdown.

Meanwhile, Thomas Partey continues to receive treatment for a thigh injury, although there is no time-frame given for his return.

We already know that David Luiz won’t be available for Thursday’s Europa League clash with Rapid Vienna, but Sead Kolasinac is available again after his positive test for Covid-19.

Calum Chambers may also be involved, having made a couple of appearances at U23 level following almost a year out with an ACL injury.

Forget about it

I haven’t discovered it yet, but I am sure ‘gus’ means “Rampant positivity and optimism” in one of the world’s languages …

Considering everyone is shit right now, and we all know they can play better than they are, you could argue they all have a collective responsibility to be less shit.

Very exciting news about Martinelli!
The return of Chambers and Mari will add the necessary strength in depth. Gutted for Partey though.

Biggles

Let’s hope so. We need strength and quality in depth, so we’ll see what these three can do. We are in a very tricky position now and the difficult run of games we’re – which has certainly started badly – in could well determine the direction of the rest of the season (in the PL anyway).
