Arteta: We have decided who will leave on loan

Mikel Arteta says that the club have decided who will go out on loan today before the transfer window shuts at 11pm this evening.

There has been speculation over the likes of Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Joe Willock, and Reiss Nelson, and from the club’s perspective the manager insists that decisions have been made about potential departures.

Arteta wouldn’t be drawn on individual cases, but said, “Yes, we have decided, and we are working on it.

“So, you will find out before 11. I cannot speak about any individual players, about what we want to do, the conversations we’ve had, so let’s see if we can get something done tonight.”

Maitland-Niles is being linked with Southampton, West Brom and Leicester; Willock with Newcastle; and Nelson with Villarreal and Real Betis.

He also didn’t completely rule out an incoming deal before the deadline, responding to a question about further arrivals with “Well, the last day of the transfer window is always unpredictable.

“Things can happen, they might happen, they might not happen … we are on it.”

The Gunners have been linked with left-back cover for Kieran Tierney, including Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand and Crystal Palace’s Patrick van Aanholt.

What.. Another press conference? Do we have game mid week?

Nobody important

Yup. Wolves

Nobody important

My sleep has been suffering lately, with me watching matches at 11:30 and 1:30 (I’m from India)

goongot

if your lately means for last 4 years, i concur with you. We still have a comfortable time zone. would hate to wake up at 4 and watch the game.

Chinaman

Try going to sleep at 4 pissed off because you stayed up to watch yet another frustrating / timid performance in Europe

rajesh bummed

Same here Bro

Sank

Really. The earlier timings of 6.30 and 8.30 are no more

FMT

You are not alone my brother. Same here 😩

Sending AMN on loan seems a bit risky given Tierney’s recurring injuries, unless we feel Chambers can do a job as the backup RB if necessary.

But Willock and Nelson should both go on loan. They’re currently 5th choice CM and 6th choice winger respectively, which we don’t really need.

If we have a few injuries and need more players on the bench, no harm in a couple of players from the U23s sitting there (Azeez and Balogun look ready).

Re*amn two games a week , can we rely on our midfield to play two games a week. Xhaka can , elneny maybe , Partey not sure at the moment , When we lost in semi final to athetico Madrid the other season hector was knackered playing two games a week , everyone pundits , fans said it , . keep Amn. To cover and play full back and centre midfield. If loan to wba. He will definitely play, not sit on saints or Leicester bench our rivals for Europa League places. Unless they offer 2.5m+ loan fee or its… Read more »

Ainsley Maitland-Niles at the moment does not have the trust of Mikel to do a proper job at either full back position. So it’s not helpful for AMN to stay at the club and not playing. I think it’d be a good move for his career and Arsenal to have more game time. He might come back a changed man and be a challenge to KT and Bellerin for the full back spot in the squad. Right now he is behind Cedric.

ozymandias

Out: Willock, Nelson Mustafi

In: A full back with two legs and a left foot

ozymandias

Oh and AMN

Biggles

We’re certainly trying to offload Mustafi – but that’s been the case for a while now so let’s not get our hopes up too much.

C.B.

Willian?

Qwaliteee

Every pub team in the land is saying a unanimous NO.

Modha

I’ll be honest, I read Bertrand and Van Aanholt and all I could think was, ‘MORE CHELSEA REJECTS!’ – and I realised the club has learned nothing

Qwaliteee

Arteta in particular.

MojoWillneny

The club’s persistence with this policy of bringing in senior “experienced” players is questionable, but it’s hit and miss like every transfer. If you’d told me I’d be pleased with the Cedric signing at the start of the season, I wouldn’t have believed it. And Luis is playing extremely well at the moment. So it’s just hit and miss with the experienced players. Willian’s still a massive mistake.

Gabe

What are the better available options?

Biggles

Well, in Willian’s case a player under 30 with sell-on value, preferably on less than £7 million a year over a three/four year contract.

John C

How much do under 30 year old, 70 cap Brazilian internationals, with 2 premier league title to their name cost?

A Different George

This is mostly nonsense. Chelsea “rejects” are everywhere; the last two champions of England were deeply indebted to two of them, De Bruyne and Salah. Chelsea were happy to take the Arsenal reject Cesc Fabregas when he couldn’t find a place with us. And, aren’t a lot of their goals being scored by an old, slow, but handsome Frenchman we didn’t want?

Rich

Unless we have a full back from the academy ready to step up? Then numerically we can’t allow Niles to leave Tierney is injured, and needs to be managed That leaves Bellerin + Soares You could argue Chambers, but he’s clearly not a right back He’s regularly been targeted when playing there, and back off a big injury, we wouldn’t be doing him any favours Willock would benefit from regular football, but with COVID having the potential to decimate our squad, and Smith-Rowe + Odegaard a bit injury prone, I’d be inclined to keep him If Mustafi stays Loan out… Read more »

Loan nelson

ChuckChinaski

I think loans in and loans out suit us until the summer. Hopefully corona no longer an issue, transfer funds start to get released by other clubs which will start the merry-go-round. We can shift some dead weight either contracts ending or sales and then Arteta can bring in the players he wants. Dangerous climate to be spanking cash when you don’t know if you will have gate receipts or sponsors for the next season.

Qwaliteee

More fool Arteta if he sends out AMN on loan.

We are then a long term Tierney injury away from also losing Saka on the wings – whilst he provides cover that AMN would have provided.

Getting rid of the deadwood (Mustafi, Willock and Nelson) is one thing.

Getting rid of valuable squad members is another…

Qwaliteee

Stop Press: AMN to West Brom.

Why am I not surprised…….

SarcasmB0t

Great, but can you do the paperwork?

Qwaliteee

It’s a wonder there’s any milk in the fridge, the way this club is run, never mind timely administration.

Naked Cygan

AMN, Nelson, and Willock can definitely benefit from domestic loans that can guarantee 15 games till the end of the season. I feel like we can afford to let Mustafi go, and let Chambers be the cover for CB spots. Cedric has done OK playing at LB, but it would be nice to get a natural LB, possibly on loan till the end of the season. If we can get Patrick van aanholt on the cheap from Palace it would be great too. We really need to find a solution for Balogun too. It would be a shame to see him… Read more »

Biggles

I suspect that most of us think that Mustafi should be let go. The club has been trying to do that for a while now but, surprise, surprise, no takers (yet, anyway – you never know). I worry that Balogun is on his way out. He is a talent and he’s the sort of young player we should show we can retain, particularly with the mess over what to do with Saliba fresh in everyone’s minds. Anyway, we’ll see. Overall, we’ve fewer “passengers” than for a long while now which is good, if overdue. Thanks to the effects of Covid… Read more »

Rocky07

I think this window is so much about offloading. A bit concerned that 3 home grown talents possibly being loaned out, AMN, Wilock & Nelson, personally I feel it will be the end to their Arsenal careers. ANN is a very strange one, considering we could have sold him in the summer.

Ealing

Its not sure all 3 will go out and hope that they can come back

Nursing_father

Arteta has really learned a lot from Wenger

Santori

I can understand the decisions. But frankly : 1) Nelson should have been given more opportunity but far botched job signing on Willian. Frankly prefer to see nelson given a go. 2) AMN I mentioned last summer when many were clamouring (stupidly) for him to replace Bellerin, jury still out. He is far too casual which is both a strength and weakness. I’m not sure if this will change. But if we are to bring in another 30yr old in van Anholdt say, much rather we persisted with AMN and resolved issues in summer. Clearly of course, Arteta wants to… Read more »
