Arsenal Women have signed highly rated 22-year old Norwegian international Frida Maanum from Linköping in Sweden. Maanum was hotly tipped to join Wolfsburg this summer but has instead signed for Arsenal.
Maanum’s agent Jens Wenzl revealed last month that the player would be coming to “a top WSL club” insisting that three English clubs made her a good offer but the player has decided to come to Arsenal.
Maanum is a box-to-box midfielder who captained Linköping last season, she already has 33 caps for Norway and played for her country ay Euro 2017 as an 18-year old. Maanum is one of the most highly rated young players in Europe and represents a real coup for Arsenal.
With the departures of Jill Roord and Danielle van de Donk this summer, reinforcement in midfield was a priority and Arsenal have fended off competition from some other big clubs in Europe to secure her signature and she will likely compete with Jordan Nobbs and Kim Little for a role in the middle of the park.
Maanum told Arsenal.com, “It’s an honour to sign for a club like Arsenal. The history speaks for itself and I just can’t wait to put on that shirt for the first time.”
Arsenal Women head coach, Jonas Eidevall said: “We are very happy to bring Frida into our squad. She is already an experienced player and her technical ability paired with her leadership qualities will align to the style of football that we want to play here. We are looking forward to working with her.”
Maanum will wear the number 12 shirt, with Steph Catley taking number 7.
