Arsenal recall Clarke ahead of Hibs move

Ross County have confirmed that Arsenal have activated a clause to recall Harry Clarke from his loan deal.

Several sources report that the 20-year-old defender is on the brink of completing a new loan move to Hibernian after impressing in the SPL this season.

Clarke has featured 17 times for Ross County, scoring three times.

In a statement on the Ross County website, manager Malky Mackay said: “Although we are disappointed to be losing Harry, I would like to thank him for his contribution in the last six months and I think he has become an even more rounded player in that time.”

“I hope he feels his time spent here in Dingwall has been enjoyable and we would like to wish him well in his career going forward.”

Clarke had initially signed a season-long deal having tasted first team action with Oldham in League Two during the last campaign.

Would have preferred him being a back up to Tomi than Cedric

He can actually defend and has learnt how to go forward while on loan

Disappointing if we let him go without any chance

I still don’t understand the rationale if he was playing regularly at Ross County

Fuzz

Especially in the same league as Hibs. Lower clubs rely on loans since the big clubs hoard all the players, so a bit unfair if this was agreed initially as a season long loan.

Matt

Maybe Hibs more likely to buy him?

This. Maybe going the Matt Macey way. Would be better for his career if he’s a regular starter for a team for a few years.

He’s out of contact in the summer

I guess Hibs gave some guarantees about his playing time.

Hibs are my local. Sean Maloney who was assistant to Roberto Martinez in the Belgium set up has just become their manager. In his first game he played 3 at the back so there’s a good chance Clarke will get game time. He’ll also get to play with better players around him in a push for European places rather than with relegation candidates. I think it’s a good move and look forward to seeing him at Easter Rd.

I heard something about a buy option for Hibs. So maybe they want to sort out his transfer earlier. Probably a fee in the summer plus a loan fee.
