Arsenal Women Champions League Quarter-Final against Wolfsburg to be played at Emirates Stadium

Arsenal Women’s Champions League quarter-final first leg against Wolfsburg will be played at Emirates Stadium, the club have confirmed. It means the team will play at the Emirates twice in four days with the North London derby also being played at the venue on the weekend of 26/27 March.

The game will be played on Wednesday, 23rd March at 8pm and the capacity will be capped at 10,000. This comes after Wolfsburg announced that the second leg, to be played on Thursday, 31st March at 5.45pm, will play the game at the Volkswagen Arena.

Tickets will go on sale soon and will cost £12 adults and £6 concessions, while packages that enable fans to buy tickets for both the Spurs and Wolfsburg games will also be available in due course.

The move for both legs has largely been driven by the requirement for VAR in the Women’s Champions League knockout stages, which would be difficult to accommodate at Meadow Park. Arsenal are the only English team left in the Champions League after Manchester City were eliminated in the preliminary rounds and Chelsea exited in the group stage. The Gunners also won the tournament in 2007, the only British team to do so.

Why cap it at 10,000?

My guess is security…

We had this discussion the last time the women played at the Emirates. To be honest on a Wednesday evening I’d be surprised if we got that many. I don’t think the Barcelona game sold out and that had a similar limit and I can’t believe Wolfsburg, for all of their recent successes, are a bigger draw than Barcelona!

Didn’t the Barcelona game attract 12K in the end?

Peter Story Teller

It did indeed, 12232 apparently, although the kick off had to be earlier to allow the cap of 10000 to be lifted.
I am guessing on this occasion the club assume that the cap will not present a problem so it is not worth the additional logistics and expense to raise the limit.

It’s great to have two world class left-footed Brazilian centre-backs at the club!
