‘Jordan is under contract for next season’ Jonas Eidevall on the futures of Jordan Nobbs and Vivianne Miedema

Arsenal coach Jonas Eidevall moved to dispel rumours of the departure of Jordan Nobbs from the club this summer. It was widely thought (and thought by me too, it must be said!) that Jordan’s contract was expiring this summer.

Earlier this week, Gunners defender Jen Beattie released a TikTok which revealed a white board at London Colney. Among the messages on the whiteboard appeared the caption ‘Jordan was here 2010-2022’ which fuelled rumours of the player’s departure, especially in light of her struggle for minutes this season.

Arseblog News asked Jonas Eidevall about Nobbs’ future during his Friday press conference. “Jordan is very important to us, she is under contract for next season. There have not been any talks about her leaving so I can deny (those stories).”

Eidevall was also pressed on the future of Vivianne Miedema, whose contract expires at the end of the season with no word on whether she will extend or leave the club just yet.

”It is exactly the same answer as it has been all season. Our hope and our intention is that she will be at Arsenal when we have something definite to communicate we will do it.

”Like with most things in life, nothing is done until a signature is on the paper. Before that, it doesn’t matter what sense you have about whether it will be done or not. Nothing is done until it is done.”

I wouldn’t be surprised if Miedema is torn about her decision. On the one hand, she’s now seen a pattern with Arsenal–that is, that it’s top 3 team in the WSL and typically beats every team in the league below that level—but that it struggles with the top teams in the WSL and has not been terribly competitive in the Champions League. And, she might wonder, how is that going to change? It’s not like potentially promising additions haven’t already been tried–Parris, Iwabuchi, Heath, Stina, others–but the results pattern has remained the same. On the other hand, I assume Miedema… Read more »

Very interesting and analytical – it does appear Viv is torn about moving, but of course she’ll be considering it carefully on an ongoing basis.
I feel she may opt to stay given her overseas options may not appeal, especially Barca as you “extravagantly” explain. Wolfsburg may suit her though.
Viv may in the end believe in the plans and vision of Jonas, which I expect will include a couple of top quality summer signings, plus Stina & Rafa IMO are already proving to be first class additions to the squad.

I think it’s interesting what you say about Viv being overkill at Barca, Lyon, PSG, Chelsea. I think that’s what a lot of us thought when Chelsea signed Sam Kerr, AND a new deal for Beth England, AND a new deal for Fran Kirby, AND Pernille Harder came over a season earlier than expected. However, I’m more and more convinced that to really compete, teams have to have an overkill of world class players in every position. Like so much so that you think it’s ridiculous. So I really wouldn’t be surprised if it seems perfectly reasonable to a team… Read more »

I wish Eidevall would open up on why he has kept Jordan on the bench so much.
Jordan staying after the way she has been treated is down to one thing only her love and devotion to this club.

Then he should play her
