Teyah Goldie signs new deal with Arsenal Women

Young Arsenal defender Teyah Goldie has signed her first professional contract with the club. Today is Teyah’s 18th birthday which means she is eligible for a professional contract and the club have wasted no time in presenting her with one.

Goldie broke into the Arsenal squad at the tail end of the 2020-21 season, featuring in most of the match day squads during the final third of that season, making her full debut against Gillingham in the FA Cup in April 2021.

Goldie has been with the club since she was eight years old, she went on loan to Watford during the second half of last season but ruptured her ACL in February.

“It feels unbelievable to finally be signing with the club that I love and that I’ve been with all my life almost,” said Teyah. “I’m absolutely delighted. I don’t think I can really put it into words. It’s something that I’ve always dreamed of and now it’s become a reality – I just can’t wait to get going. I’m a Gooner myself so to actually sign here, for the club that I love and support, is just incredible.”

Head Coach Jonas Eidevall added: “It’s great news that Teyah has signed her first professional contract with us. Our academy has a long tradition of producing talented players for the first team and we all believe that Teyah has the potential to follow that path.”

Head of Women’s Football Clare Wheatley said: “We’re delighted that Teyah has committed her future to us through her first professional contract. She has shown impressive development in recent years and follows the likes of Leah Williamson and Lotte Wubben-Moy in coming through our renowned academy and into the first-team set-up, where we have high hopes for her future progression.”

The contracts of Jen Beattie, Simone Boye and Anna Patten all expire in the summer of 2023, when Goldie will, hopefully, have recovered from injury and will be able to think seriously about whether she can push through into the first team centre-back rotation.

Surely she is already there once her knee is fixed. She has been on the fringes for a couple of seasons and doesn’t look out of place when she has been called upon. Of course Jen has signed an extension now but I would expect a fit Teyah to be in front of her in the pecking order and we know that Anna will probably be on loan for the coming season so there is no harm in having another Arsenal developed through and through player in the squad. The tough games simply mean that bit more to them (no… Read more »
