Xhaka and Jesus reflect on Arsenal’s win over Sp*rs

Arsenal secured the points in the north London derby thanks to a 3-1 win that keeps us top of the league.

After the match, two of the goalscorers, Gabriel Jesus and man of the match Granit Xhaka, faced the BT Sport cameras. Here’s what they had to say…

On loving derby games…

GJ: To be honest, it’s the second time I score in a derby game. The first was [for Brazil] against Argentina. I’m very happy. Of course, I want to score every game but the way the team played from the first minute, we showed what we want in the game. We won the game, that’s the most important thing.

On a huge win…

GX: Absolutely, we didn’t have a lot of weeks to prepare the game because of the national team break but we saw it yesterday in training that we are ready. We knew exactly what we wanted. As Gabi said, from the first, second [minute], we were the better team. A little bit after the goal we conceded we struggled but this is football, we were so much better.

On his goal changing the game…

GJ: It was like the first half, we were playing better, I think, in my opinion. We deserved to win today, we want to play the game, play passes, create chances, how many chances did we create today, amazing. The spirit of the team is amazing.

On his goal sealing the result…

GX: Yeah, it’s my first derby goal in England. I’m more than happy to help the team, of course. the most important thing is the team. I’m so happy to help the team.

On enjoying life at Arsenal…

GJ: Yeah, I’m feeling at home but it’s because of them, because of the guys. The staff, the club, they make me feel at home. That helps a lot for the players who are joining the club. I’m really happy here. We’re in a good way.

Thoroughly deserved – dominated the game. Love this team!

That was fun

Not only a win, but a win played the right way! Long may it continue!

We were so much better and are so much better. Honestly Spurs are such a one trick pony. Bar the front 3 and Romero, they have absolutely nothing. Teams need to start figuring them out, they are punching well above their weight. We won because we were much better from back to front but teams without our attacking resources just need to sit someone on Kane when he drops deep and their toasted. There was a moment at half time where i thought Spurs might nick a draw here but thankfully I was wrong and the inevitable thing happened. Again.… Read more »

I really rate Kulusevski. He’s far too good for that shit team and I’m glad he didn’t play today.

Funsho Patrick

Amazing that anyone would downvote you! Spurs are s#@t!! And their coach is a cunt(e)😆

Fenko

My Willy can cope with Kane and put him in his pocket.
Well done team.

I like them stating the obvious truth unapologetically, We were better!

It’s the Thierry Jesus goal celebration for me all day💪🏼! Congrats on your first of 20 NLD goals, son!!!

Boy Bastin

So glad that Jesus scored – and for the second PL game on the trot. The hat trick beacons against Liverpool.

Vieiraera

Speaking of which super secret agent ThatGuyWelbz with trossard are taking the scousers to the cleaners!

Jesus of Sao Paulo

With Jesus on our side things will work out just fine 👌💯❤

But seriously though, Gabriel needs to cut the Mustafi elements out of his game.
He is constantly putting the team under intense pressure. How many errors leading to goals has he committed so far? I have lost count.

Boy Bastin

Hmmm. I’m not sure I would evoke Mustafi. He was surely one of the worst (and most expensive, in his day) flops of the later AW era.

It’s true that Gabriel does make some silly (and potentially expensive, of course) errors during games. Hopefully, that will be diluted with greater experience (the same could be said of other players in our very young team). The encouraging news is that they’re making progress together. That lack of experience could not be levelled at Mustafi who arrived at The Emirates “fully formed”.

ESR’s shinpads

Gabriel was the only one today who looked like he was in danger of doing something stupid in that spell after they scored and before half-time. Reminded me of the Man City game last season but thankfully today worked out better. Given the extent to which Arteta is clearly coaching these guys to another level I’m sure he’ll be on it. Or Gabriel could just watch his mate at centre half to see how it’s done as he is really quite good.

BillyKrystal

The beauty now is if Gabriel messes up a few times we have White and even Tomi to come in. Even if Gabi never cleans up his mistakes completely neither did Kosc and he was one of our best recent cbs. The pen was silly though.

Finsbury Park Gooner

Gabriel is a great defender that makes occasional mistakes as he is still relatively young. Saliba is wise beyond his years. Comparing Gabriel to Mustafi is beyond ridiculous.

Fenko

Actually, I wasn’t comparing Gabriel to Mustafi. That is criminal to do so knowing what Mustafi was for us.
I was just trying to say he should cut out those occasional, game-changing mistakes that are characteristics of Mustafi game from his game.
He us a great defender and I like him but those moment of madness can make someone misjudge him, especially if they are costly for us.
Anyways, upward Arsenal and happy weekend to all Gunners.

Torterrier

You’re seriously criticising a player who has been immense since we bought him? He fights for everything and scores goals too. Incredible player and one of the many reasons we can smash the Sp*ds with our eyes closed.

Some people are never fucking satisfied.

What a win!

Pescatarian

Well said. Not the time for negativity. Basking is what we should be doing. Basking like basking sharks, basking in the warm embrace of NLD winning elation

Man Manny

It’s early days but I think this team is going to finish in the top three. There is so much to admire in this team. The grit; the belief, and the team spirit. Long may it continue.

truj

I’m so sorry for the Emerson guy, because he deserves much more than a red. A six match ban at least

Emi Rates

Whatever his punishment it pails in comparison to the gruesome fact that he plays for spuds.

Noni

All Spud players should be banned for 6 games for bringing the game into disrepute.

Brady’s bunch

Nice to see the club still has the bit of class behind the scenes as Arsene used to say it’s a different knock when Arsenal come to the door.

Teryima Adi

Glad Jesus is happy at Arsenal. Long may it continue.

Al Alontos

Saliba’s nutmeg towards the end of the game 😘
