Confirmed: Salah-Eddine recalled from nightmare Hull City loan

Arsenal have recalled Salah-Eddine from his loan spell with Hull City and scrapped the Tigers’ option to sign the attacker on a permanent basis.

The 19-year-old returns to London Colney to focus on his recovery from a thigh injury having failed to make a single appearance at the MKM Stadium.

Signed as a free agent having spent his younger years on the books at Feyenoord, Salah impressed for the club’s under-18s and under-23s over the last couple of seasons and made the Gunners’ first team bench on nine occasions last year.

Given his talent and the fact Omari Hutchinson left for Chelsea, it was something of a surprise that the club allowed Hull to negotiate a deal to buy him.

While a return to Arsenal reignites the smallest hope of a future in N5, realistically, the acquisition of Leandro Trossard is another obstacle in his path.

In the short term, it sounds like he’s got a job on his hands just getting back to fitness.

Earlier this week, Hull boss Liam Rosenior revealed: “Salah is someone who has struggled for a long period of time. He trained for the first time [in months] over the last two days but he’s so far away still.

“He couldn’t train today [Thursday] because of the intensity. He’s a young kid and he’s had quite a tough injury. It’s one where we’re looking at the best option for him and what the solution is.

“Does he go back to his parent club and get his rehab done there? Because it’s going to be very, very difficult for him to play games here.

“That’s something that’s not just a discussion for me. I have to look after the best interests of the group and him, and at the moment he’s not someone that features in my plans in the short term.”

Seems like a lot of our youngsters have had poor loan deals this season.
These are always a setback in their development but can be character building. They should look toward Eddie for inspiration.

Even if he’d played 90 minutes every week, a year in Hull can only be described as a ‘nightmare’.

What is it that Mark Twain said? Something like:
“The longest year I ever spent was a week in Hull”

What’s is up with all these terrible loan deals? Something to look into improve for next season.

Loans are always a mixed bag, which I believe is the standard no matter the club. Sure, a couple of them have been terrible. But then you could look at Patino, Balogun, Tavares and Trusty, and realise we’ve done really well with those players. I’d argue our loan deals have been much better this season as compared to the last few.

I think we’re only aware of it because they’re actually managing them really well and recalling players when they don’t work out. Plus getting a bad injury and having to come home for rehab is hardly a bad loan deal – its just shit luck.
