Confirmed: Bukayo Saka signs new Arsenal contract

Arsenal have confirmed that Bukayo Saka has put pen to paper on a new long-term contract.

The England international, 21, has committed his future to the Gunners until 2028 and will become one of the club’s highest earners having established himself as an integral part of Mikel Arteta’s first team squad.

Saka joined the Arsenal Academy at Hale End as a 7-year-old and rose through the ranks quickly to make his first team debut in 2018 during Unai Emery’s tenure. He was deployed in a number of positions during Mikel Arteta’s early days in charge but last season settled at right wing and has since thrived as an attacking threat.

In total, Saka has made 178 appearances for the club, scoring 37 goals and making 40 assists. He has twice been named Arsenal’s player of the season and has recently been shortlisted for a host of end-of-season awards dished out by the likes of the Premier League, PFA and FWA.

This has been his best season in terms of goal contributions, scoring 14 and creating 11 assists in all competitions – as well as 4 goals and 3 assists for England during his international commitments.

He’s also played 26 times for his country and somehow already featured in two major international tournaments despite his tender years.

Saka’s new deal has been a long time coming but it’s very welcome news. Congratulations, Bukayo.

YES!! Delighted

Qwaliteee

Yes!!

Get in!!

Now for Saliba, Benny Blanco and Martin Odegaard.

Bleeding Gums Murphy

Wonderful news.

David C

Wonderful news! Now let’s get a backup for him so we can rotate his minutes a little better especially with CL football incoming.

Deano

Yeah defo needed, lads looked knackered past few weeks.

Jimbo1

It is probably more important to get back up for Martinelli, as there is noone in the squad who can replicate his direct running and ability to get in behind opposition defences. Trossard and Jesus have similar skill sets to Saka and can deputise if needed.

PeteyB

Maybe the right time is passed, but i think I’d be happy getting Zaha on a free transfer to rotate with Martinelli.
I think he has enough to offer for a couple of years without seeming to block Martinelli’s longer term future.

Qwaliteee

Zaha isn’t a team player. He’s all about Wilfred; he wouldn’t be interested in covering for anyone.

He’d be whinging and whining to Arteta almost as much as he gets salty at every opportunity with the refs – whilst flat on his backside.

We’ve dodged a bullet there folks – and long may it continue.

Some people’s never ending obsession with linking him to Arsenal though, is mildly amusing.

Tomiyasu vain

Well given Pepe was what we got instead, i might auggest we stepped on a rusty nail whilst dodging that bullet

Qwaliteee

Mate, Pepe is Pelé compared to some of the clowns we’ve had to endure lately – Mustafi, Guendouzi, Luiz, Willian, Tavares, Cedric.

All doing their bit to ensure we stayed out of the Champions League.

Riku

Jesus , – ,pep played him out wide right

Emanuel

such great news! loved the video too. on a more “”cynical”” note, it seems to me the club is getting smarter with the timing of positive announcements like this. right when the fanbase needed a consolation after seeing city lift the title. it kinda works. love saka so much.

Man Manny

A signing that should take some of the burden off him from next season is a priority for me. His dip in form towards the tail end of this season was down more to fatigue than defences finding him out..

Teryima Adi

You’re right. He was so tired, that much was obvious.

BQ1234

Also to do with the fact that White couldn’t function in the same way after the Saliba injury

loose_cannon

I feel the issues were more tactical than about fatigue. We weren’t getting the ball to him with the same speed and frequency as earlier in the season, and he was getting less support from right back. When he’s 1v1 with a defender, he wins the vast majority of those duels, but for whatever reason we’ve found it harder to engineer those scenarios as a team.

Qwaliteee

Neither could most of the guys. The spine of the team depended on Saliba’s calming influence.

I love Gabriel to bits, but his game nose dived without Saliba alongside him – he was losing both his shit and his focus.

Seaman

Happy to see Saka believes in Team potential and for the management for the efforts to keep him 🙂

Tommmy

Huge signing! Really need Saliba to sign, then Martin and we have secured the futures of our key stars.
Time to build the future

Bishop

Feels like a tiny teeny consolation price for me.

Qwaliteee

Wow, some of you really are setting up camp in Wallow Central.

Come on mate, this is something that Man City – and everyone with their journalistic tongue up their arses – cannot take away from us.

Rejoice! 😉

Bleeding Gums Murphy

Would it have felt like a tiny teeny disappointment if he had left.

Teryima Adi

Wow. That’s good news. Congrats, Saka. Just keep unleashing terror on defenders.

Deano

Great news, hopefully sign up the others soon and then concentrate on reinforcements.

Pat Rice and Beans

Best news we had in weeks. Yeehaw

shokim

Finally announced! Our future Ballon D’or winner 👏🌶️

The Peter Simpsons

Good job Edu, the kid is an absolute gem.

PGunner

Don’t wanna hear a word about the wages he’s on. Just glad our starboy is staying around fot the foreseeable!

Emi Rates

I’m curious to know his wages.

SirL

288k a week, according to the Twitterati

assistantref

Maybe if all incentives are met (which never happens).

Base salary is likely to be more like 200k, possibly less.

Qwaliteee

Why?

Whatever it is, he’s worth every single penny.

Eric Blair

Best news in a while.

Please get him a decent backup so we don’t play him into the ground!

Carlos

Praise the Bendtner!

Merlin’s Panini

I’m sure they were hoping to announce this on the back of better news so the timing is obviously to cushion the blow of the last two terrible results.
That said, it’s great news to have tied Bukayo down although a five year deal would’ve been nice.

Alex

Big. He is now worth £150m on the open market and much much more to everyone at Arsenal

Cranky Colin

Wow!

Arsenio

Until 2028 or is it 2027?

Qwaliteee

It’s a four year contract – 2027.

We will, however, need to start negotiations again in May 2025 – after our Champions League Final victory…😉👍

Bill Hall

I would use Jesus to rotate with Saka and get a proper centre forward!
