Nketiah says his goodbyes after Palace switch

Eddie Nketiah’s long association with Arsenal ended this evening after his move to Crystal Palace was confirmed.

Having made his debut in 2017, the 25 year old made 168 appearances in the famous red and white, scoring 38 goals and making 7 assists for the first team.

Via his Instagram, he posted a message to say thanks and goodbye the club he grew up at, and to the fans who supported him along the way.

Thank you, Arsenal. As I say goodbye, I want to take this time to say thank you to everyone at the club, from my teammates to all the wonderful staff who have been a part of my journey and have made this place home for so many years.

Working my way up from Hale End to the first team was a dream come true. It taught me what it means to play for the club and what a privilege it is to wear the shirt. I never took it for granted and gave my all every time I stepped on the pitch.

From scoring my first senior goal against Norwich in 2017, to making over 100 appearances for Arsenal, I have made memories here I shall carry with me for the rest of my life.

I’m grateful to have felt your support and I’ll cherish the memories we have made.

Thank you Gooners.
Eddie

He now starts a new chapter at Selhurst Park, and I’m sure everyone wishes him well for 36 games every season.

For more on Eddie, read Tim Stillman’s column this week which puts his time at the club into some perspective.

Go well, Eddie.

Humble, hard working, great mentality. Will be missed.

Agree, agree, agree, disagree

My favourite Eddie moment was his late winning goal against Man Utd 3-2. In a pub full of Utd fans it was amazing. It’s funny how they all went quiet at the end. Thanks Eddie!

The hat trick was nice too even if it was against Sheffield. That screamer for the third! For a moment there early last season he kept showing us things we didn’t think he was capable of, a few lovely through passes worthy of a number 10, a 25 yard missile, even the odd burst of pace. I’m sure he’ll show much more of that at Palace (pls not against us Eddie remember where you came from)

The way he put Sambi right during the team-dining was a very funny but also very interesting snapshot in my opinion. I mean to see how a still young but full-professional footballer see this world from inside.
When Arteta wrote that he is a top professional – I hardly have any doubt that the spaniard was 100% seriuos.

Good luck to him!
Seems to me a top guy.

Uchay

so long Edward Necktie….great guy

So many of the boys this year have moved out on their own; we won’t always get along when we get together again, but they know they will always have a home with the Arsenal. Well done, lads, and good luck.

Go on to do great things. Eddie, ESR, and Reiss, I have only ever wanted the best for them. Whichever club they go to I hope they love playing football and excel in what they love, and become world class!!

Watching these boys leave club hurts me to the core. I will always cheer for Eddie, ESR, Ramsdale, and what is likely Reiss as well. I will miss them as I miss Rob Holding and others. I wish I was in a world where they were all good enough to play in the Arsenal 1st team but it will not be on this Arsenal team for whatever the reason. Good luck boys and I will cheer for you to do well even against the Arsenal. I just hope we do better! Best of luck to the boys and may you… Read more »

So does he I should imagine.

Really hoping he’s a success at Palace, got the talent and mentality to be a solid premier league striker.

Good luck Eddie, you helped us get where we are, I wish you the best of luck mate!

Alex

Wish he joined Reiss, Smith-Rowe and Iwobi at Fulham. Would be awesome to see them all play together but all the best for him at Palace!

Glenn Helder's Perm

Good luck, Eddie! Tim’s article was a fantastic read. Eddie’s a great player and capable of scoring many goals for Palace. All the best.

Death by 300,000 Passes

Always a faithful servant to the club, and always underappreciated. How many times we heard the phrase “No disrespect to Eddie, but…”?

Der Kaiser

Given Jesus’ injury record and age, I find it difficult to understand that Eddie has been allowed to leave without us buying another striker. What happens when Kai and Jesus are injured .( or one knitted and one out of form)? Young players need a run of games to get that ultimate confidence and establish themselves. I may be mistaken but I think after Eddie scored the hatrick against Sheffield Utd ( and it was a superb one despite the opposition) he did not start the next Premiership game I hope Arteta and Edu prove me wrong but personally I’m… Read more »

If I remember right he scored a goal or two in his debut? Also became top scorer in England u21 and made his national team debut while representing Arsenal. Top lad, wishing him well at Fulham, hope he develops his game further with more game time and can one day represent England again. Make us proud Eddie, you’ll always be one of us.
