Well, that was fun. Arsenal humbled Sporting Lisbon 5-1 on their own patch, producing their best performance of the season in the process.
The result ended a run of five away games in Europe without a win and matched our best ever on the road in the Champions League. Not a bad day at the office for Mikel Arteta and the boys.

Now that was banging. A great performance from every player.
Dare I say it…..we’re back baby!!!
I still can’t believe we bullied a team that crushed Mancity weeks ago. Post-interlul impact in full effect!
also impact of managers
Made all the sweeter by their mini-implosion vs Feyenoord. Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of oil-greased, dodgy cunts.
Oh YEAH!
perfect night in the champions league
10/10 to Feyenoord for making Citeh stay humble
Hahahahah stay humble Erling
He really has become a bit of a twunt, hasn’t he?
Always was!
And Jurrien’s brother was involved
Saw a note that said if City keep this up their fans will go back to the teams they originally supported
Excellent!!
Gabriel is the best CB in the worl right now, absolute MONSTER
Or 2nd best to Saliba
In a team stacked with oodles of lovable players, it’s hard to pick a favorite. But one thing is clear, Gabriel is up there among my top 3 in this squad! A warrior — he will die for the badge. And he doesn’t let any affront to the Arsenal name/badge slide away easily. Many said he did the Gyokeres celebration as revenge for that Sporting player who did the Xhaka celebration from a couple seasons ago. Not sure about that, but I just love the guy! Helps that he seems to be big on family too. 🎵🎵 our wall at… Read more »
Looked like he was masking as batman who had the last laugh against bane as he had his hands over his eyes with the thumbs as the bat ears rather than bane’s which goes over the mouth (Gyokeres’). Either way, i loved it ! COYG
Apart from that one goal we conceded, can’t really fault anyone tonight. That really was a complete and a mature performance by us!
Have we ever talked about odegaard’s ceiling? He has for the most part looked like a finished article because of his maturity. But sometimes we forget that he is still relatively young and can still improve even the skills he is already good at.
And in the last 2 games, it looks like he has stepped on to another level. It would be very interesting to watch him for the next few games.
Agreed, he is absolutely killing it. I think an obvious way he can raise his ceiling is by adding more goals. There was a time when he looked to be doing that, constantly scoring between 12-24 yards, but hasn’t happened so much of late.
I think Odegaard may be the best player I’ve seen in an Arsenal jersey since Bergkamp. He does everything, and he makes it all look so effortless.
Then I guess you slept from 1999 straight through to 2007? Most skilled, most magical or the most talented you’ve seen in an Arsenal shirt is up for debate, “best” isn’t.
Hmm. Best? Henry, Pires, Santi, Cesc. He has got some competition there.
There’s zero competition, it’s Henry and it’s not even close.
And I say that as someone whose favourite Arsenal players are Cesc and Dennis and Patrick Vieira, it’s irrelevant
Well that’s contentious lol. I think Henry probably best ever player but I think even Henry didn’t have Bergkamp level skill and touch. Henry however combined his none the less, world class skill will world class physical attributes making him probably our best ever player. Still though Bergkamp had the edge when it came to pure technique.
Few spelling mistakes in there sorry.

Saka plays in the same them and is younger. I’d even put Saliba slightly ahead of him. Odegaard is great, one of the best, but he’s not reached Santi’s level of mastery. At the moment, he’s the only one of his type we have, a ball dominant creative hub. He’s also an ideal professional and a great leader.
Think you need a reality check
Cannot underestimate his all-round ‘generalship’ on the pitch – and arguably what we missed the most when he was out. Apart from the pixie-dust feet, the energy, the marshalling of the press, the constant gesticulating of gaps (both on def and attack)…
Haven’t returned to this one for a while but it seems time:
Martin Odegaard – next great Arsenal captain… future Arsenal legend.
He looked a tad ‘left-footed’ last night – after all, God wields two wands!
Ødegaard’s ceiling has a hole in it where Ødegaard went through.
More of a glass window that he broke through 🙂
Odegaard sensational. Partey back to top form, which I had doubted would happen at the start of the season. Thought Raya was quietly exceptional too. It is of course well accepted now, but a reminder that he really has raised our level, catching crosses, distributing well, and making good saves. Particularly enjoyed our first two goals, as any good Wenger era Arsenal fan would.
our passing tends to look very boring and predictable, but today it didn’t. we always looked like being 2 passes away from a one-on-one with the keeper. calmly keeping possession but a threat at all times. lovely stuff. regarding partey, how come a player that seems to be so important in arteta’s gameplan, hasn’t been offered a new contract? it has to be for external issues, because he seems to trust that man a lot and plays him quite often… i don’t understand, goes against all of our “build a squad for the future” plans
Yes, there is an external issue. Look it up
Did anyone notice how mega-confident Timber was at RB?
The number of times he beat their press just by running onto an iffy back-pass at pace and striding past Sporting into midfield space – he was defs an 8.5 for me.
Fantastic performance, especially in the first half. Timber was immense, and it makes a big difference playing a proper right back there compared with Partey, who was also excellent in the middle. Shout out to Rice as well, feels like he’s struggled to get up to speed after the Euros but looked to be moving a lot freer today, his best performance so far this season along with against Liverpool.
That was so goodly enjoyable that I’m going to rewatch the whole game. More of that on Saturday , please
The technical level of this squad is sky high. Watching the lines spiral and swirl in a dance of geometric patterns the twisting and turning of our players and weaving something magical. Poetry. Well done
What a performance. No coincidence we are hitting top form just as Ø gets back in the line up. loving the Bergkamp comparisons – he’s that good.
Blogs, I don’t agree with your rating (7) for Zinny, he came on was really tidy played some beautiful balls, really forward thinking. He’s a baller. Give the man some love. Deserved at least the same as fellow sub EN at 7.5
7.5 – beautiful balls.
Did anyone notice the sporting defense, after being shell shocked by Odegaards passing, desperately cut off the passing lanes for Nwaneri only to have him bolt into the space that opened up? The nightmares they will be having tonight. It made me laugh out loud.
martinelli: 8 attempted passes, 5 successful, in 70 minutes. but he scored a tap in and we won, so let’s give him an 8 and pretend that didn’t happen… the winning mentality arteta has fought so hard to impose in this club is always celebrated, but rarely backed by the fans, who more often than not accept mediocre performances by our players. martinelli is one of our own and deserves our full support. his current performances do not. he shouldn’t be anywhere near our starting eleven.
Think you’ve nutmegged yourself with this “observation”, mate
He scored the opening goal in a big game by being in the right position at the right time. Since you enjoy facts.
i think it’s clear that one single moment of brilliance and disappearing for the rest of the match doesn’t cut it in this team, if not ozil would be still playing with us
You do realise that someone just makes these up at the end of the game right? Getting angry because one person wasnt as negative about one player as you would have liked them to be on a night when we won 5-1 seems about as pointless as you can get to me.
i didn’t like the way a player performed and thought it would be a better point of discussion than just saying “everybody gets a 10”, that doesn’t mean im angry at all or that that’s my only take of the game friend, it’s all good
What a bad observation, what you’ve just described is our most efficient player and best finisher. The argument is how do we get him into more scoring positions.
i don’t agree with you but at least your argument makes sense, and doesn’t stop at the “what a bad observation” or just a downvote, so thanks for the novelty!
5 star performance. So glad I stayed up to watch this. Bonus ratings should have gone to Citeh 😜
The ratings text descriptions are outstanding. 9/10. Look forward to hearing Blogs and James try to remember who assisted a Martinelli goal and boiled some piss in a 8/10 performance.
bonus points for gabriel celebration??
No wonder he will be picked next time and he is often the one to give away a goal under pressure.
arteta always talk about learning. well havent we learned from haaland’s arrogance?hopefully it wont come back to haunt us.
Big Gabby deserved another one point just for his goal celebration
We played fast smart football so bloody exciting watching us dissecting the middle of the pitch as well as the wings.
Great team performance. Loved the duel between Gyokeres and the CBs.
