Arsenal v Bristol City Women Postponed

Arsenal Women’s FA Cup tie at home to Bristol City scheduled for Sunday afternoon has been postponed due to a frozen pitch. The Women’s FA Cup Fourth Round has been decimated by freezing weather conditions across England.

Boreham Wood’s home game was postponed earlier today and with temperatures not set to rise at all in Hertfordshire before tomorrow’s game, a decision has been taken to postpone it now. The kickoff had been moved from 12.30 to 3pm earlier this week in hope of giving the game a better chance of going ahead.

The tie will be rescheduled and Arsenal will notify supporters of the new date and kickoff time in due course.

Far too risky to play on a frozen pitch; could result in lower limb injury

chig

Given this weather stuff happens every January why not give the players another few weeks of winter break?

Collibosher

Because greedy owners and sponsors want to cram too many games in.

CommunistGunner

Well I kind of agree, I definetely don’t like it either. But I also would say it is an essential part of the game, as long as it runs for profit. If business doesn’t grow, it goes down.
So greedy owners or not, I think it is part of ut.

Block16

1. Because it doesn’t happen every year. (Unless I’m forgetting something, I don’t think we had any cancelled games for frozen pitches last season)
2. In early February, the chance of a frozen pitch isn’t all much that lower.

Kerenska

Wasn’t it last year that Chelsea women were sliding all over the place on an ice pitch, before it was called off? Or maybe it was year before?

Fun Gunner

Yes, it was. I was on tenterhooks the whole time.

Haha love it

If my brain cell is still working correctly, Highbury had undersoil heating back in the 1970’s so in the 21st century you would have thought that technology would have advanced sufficiently for lower league grounds to have something similar.
Still Meadow Park is frozen and we cannot play today so that’s the end of that.

Fun Gunner

Yes, with hindsight, installation of undersoil heating could have been included in the improvements we made during the redevelopment that happened a few years ago.

Fun Gunner

Disappointing, but expected and at least the decision was made in good time for the away fans.

We’ve got to look at it as an additional week to prepare for the difficult block of games we have coming.

Hi Tim,
Can you tell me why Ross County vs Celtic in the Highlands (SPL) went ahead yesterday on a frozen pitch, while this, and a whole batch of
womens FA Cup games down south have been ca cancelled? Are there separate protocols for the womens teams?
Ta, and keep up the great work! 😉

Ross County have under-soil heating
