It’s spelled Nighswonger, folks. Wrong in the article and the tags.

Chris Owens

Write it out 100 times! Thx for correcting.

I do not believe that Renee wanted Girma or Walsh as much as Jonas may have done. I do think that Miedema would have thrived under Renee.
Not bothered who Chelsea bought, we still more than matched them for 80 minutes.

Fun Gunner

Hear, hear.

I thought Kelly to Arsenal before any rumor. She wanted out, we needed a wide forward. Only thing was if City would deal with us being direct competition for league place

Fun Gunner

Jamie’s voice has suddenly got a lot deeper… I jest. Thanks for another cracking pod. It was very interesting to hear how RS dealt with LW. It must be very upsetting but better to know where you stand. In six weeks Wienroither will be happy again because she is playing and being relied on. And she’s got a friend there already in Viv. Clarity, decisiveness, boldness, empathy and original thinking – hallmarks of RS. What I love about her solutions is that you don’t see them coming, but when in place, they seem obvious. Thanks for the background on Chloe… Read more »

Well said.

Jonas at times thinks so deeply about situations at times that he outsmarts himself. We never needed Walsh but he had convinced himself that we did. Pity he didn’t think about leaving slightly sooner so that we could have retained Viv and installed Renee from the start of the season. We would have had another source of goals and possibly have not handed Chelsea the head start in the WSL that we did.

Fun Gunner

Yep. But water under the bridge now, unfortunately. Somehow, from somewhere, in the summer we have to find a new striker in the Kerr/Shaw/Miedema bracket. That’s what will take us to the top.

Fun Gunner

Never thought I’d hear you regretting Miedema’s departure! What happened? 😁

Peter Story Teller

Ha Ha! I didn’t necessarily want her to leave but I’m still not sure she’ll be the player she was before the ACL. Even at only 80% of what she was, she is still a good player that would have probably fitted in under Renee’s leadership and bagged us the 10 goals that we now have to find elsewhere.

Fun Gunner

Not to mention all the assists. She is back, though. I imagine there will be more injury layoffs from time to time, but I’ve been watching her last few games and Viv is back.

Colin Carey

Arsenal got Lessi Russo for free but JE didn’t know how or where to play her. It’s the same now; it’s not Lessi or Stina, it should be Lessi and Stina.

Fun Gunner

Possibly! I could never really work JE out.

Small detail: we (as in Dutch) of course would say Slegers is ‘being clear’, not ‘ruthless’. Serves everyone, we feel: far better than benching good players and disrupting their progress. And thanks for this interesting behind the scènes podcast!

Peter Story Teller

Understood, but in competition, which ultimately what football is about, ruthlessness is a positive trait. If you are a good manager, you can be ruthless without being nasty and there are plenty of examples of the latter! Fortunately, Renee is not one of them.
