Arsenal will travel on their pre-season tour of the Far East without Cesc Fabregas. The Spanish playmaker is understood to have lingering worries over a tight hamstring and will remain in London with a view to working on his fitness.
The absence of the club captain on a trip of important marketing value will no doubt add fuel to the fire that the 23-year-old is set on completing a move to Barcelona before the start of the season.
Speaking to Arsenal.com about the Spaniard’s absence, Arsene Wenger explained:
“We will take the strongest possible squad.
“Fabregas will not travel because he still has a small muscular problem. He will stay and practice here. There is a doubt about Eboue who has done his calf.
Asked if Samir Nasri would be going on the trip, Wenger replied in the affirmative: “Yes. He is not injured and he is going on tour.”
Arsenal will play a Malaysian XI on Wednesday, before travelling to China where they will face Hangzou Greentown on Saturday 16th July. The Gunners have four further pre-season tests with FC Cologne, Boca Juniors, New York Red Bulls and Benfica making up the schedule.
Arsenal are expected to announce the full squad for the tour shortly.
