Song: We need to win every single game to come back

Alex Song believes that Arsenal have to put a run of victories together in the Premier League to reward the club’s beleaguered fans and to prove that the side is not a waning force.

Arsenal are fifteenth in the table after Sunday’s loss in the North London derby and with only two wins in seven games, currently sit 12 points behind leaders Manchester United and Manchester City. Indeed if Arsene Wenger is going to secure a top four finish for the fifteenth successive year his side are going to have to make history with no team ever securing Champions League qualification after such a poor start.

Speaking to Arsenal Player in the aftermath of the defeat to Spurs, Song struggled to hide his disappointment at the way the season had started:

“We need to learn from this performance for the future. I think now it’s not good for us, it’s not good for the fans. We need to keep going, to show a good face.

“I think we can’t lose this game like this, it’s not normal. We are not allowed to do it. For the fans, for everyone who loves Arsenal we need to do something great. We are not in a good situation at the moment.”

Recognising the toll that injuries have again taken on the Arsenal squad, Song took consolation from the fact the international break will offer an opportunity for the players to focus their mind on the rest of the season.

“We need to come back from the international break with a winning mentality, because that is what we need to prove to everyone that we are not going down [presumably down hill…not relegation].

“We don’t have any choice now, we need to react in a good way and a good way is to win every single game. We need to be more focused now, try to defend together, try to attack together.

“The fans need it, we need to make them happy. We need to win every single game. The fans did very well and we haven’t done very well for them. We know it was the derby and I’m sorry.

“The next five games are very important for us. We need to win every single to come back and show the fans we are ready to fight for the league.”

Arsenal’s next five Premier League fixtures.

Sunderland (H) – 16.10.11

Stoke City (H) – 23.10.11

Chelsea (A) – 29.10.11

WBA (H) – 05.11.11

Norwich (A) – 19.11.11

Talk is cheap…

Savage Muchachos

@Gillespie Road – Yup, I agree. Sad to say but this is the same old guff that we have all heard before…..just from a different player. The team is more than likely has a roster…..I wonder whose turn is next?

DF

Strange that it is another UNDERPERFORMING player that take to the media. SZCZ / RVP apart, I dont want to hear from any Arsenal player until they start winning games. Wenger must leave. This is Arsenal FC not Wenger FC

critic

Lolz …and still you come here to read what players said…lolz lolz…

Padwoir

It’s not DF Board either.

Дилан

Winning all five of those fixtures would be fucking wonderful. But on current form, I don’t think anyone would be looking forward to a road game at Stamford Bridge. At least 3 of them are home games, I guess…

the only sam is nelson

i really like the way the photo illustrating this story appears to show song realising that he was saying these things after losing at shite hart lane, rather than fucking doing them things during the fucking game which is what the team should have done

d’oh indeed

bizircus

We have only got one Song!!

Voldermort

If only they played as well as they talk. Heard this so many times in the past about what they need to do, how up for it they are blah blah, only to get stuffed the next game. Maybe this time eh

Luke

I’ll be happy happy if we win 2 or 3 of those fixtures. I have a feeling Stoke, Chelsea and Norwich will get a result from us.

Anton

If Arsenal players could play as good as they talk..

Jimmy Jones

I wish they would just stop talking. Stop talking to the media. Focus on the games and try to just win the games with more determination and commitment than I have ever seen from these lads. I was really annoyed before the Tottenham game when they kept going on about how this was going to be the start of something good, that they needed to win the game and begin a trend. I wish they had just kept their mouths shut, focused on the game and won it. And keep quiet even if they’ve won 10 in a row, speak… Read more »

Goon Mate

Holy Crap! Another player talking again! We must be right there at the top of the “Talking Premier League”

La Gooner

13 points is a must for that 5

La Gooner

lots of Caption Hindsight talk from players…not doing any good

Martin Keown is my hero

Hindsight talk starts with the manager and filters down to the players. If I hear that fucking “hanbrake” shite coming out of Wengers mouth again…….. We all know what we need in our team. We have very talented individuals, but we need….dare I say it……a Roy (puke) Keane (puke) personality. Someone on the pitch who will roast the other players. And when he is not playing, the players will be scared to leave the pitch and face a rollicking in the changing rooms. Our boys are all too nice. We need to do the same thing you do to toughen… Read more »

Who disrespected my post? Fuckers………..

No one “disrespected” your post. There is a like or dislike button, so, quite simply, people disliked what you said.

“We need to do the same thing you do to toughen up your dog (or wife). You keep hiting it in the face until it becomes a ball of rage.”

OMG!! we have a wife beater and a possible sociopath here.

Martin Keown is my hero

Its all a front. I don’t have a dog and my wife hits me.

Padwoir

So get the bitch charged for assault (no fear she’d do the same) and move on. Maybe you should get that dog you don’t have.

Craig

I wonder just how many times we’ve heard ‘we must learn from this’ yet we never do!

Still I’m not panicking. We’ll get a few wins under our belt and we’ll soon be battling it out for 4th. Instead of being near the top and losing it at the end we’ll be mid table and pinch it at the end instead.

the only sam is nelson

heh i think that this is a good call. stealing 4th when the lasagne poisoned the spuds a few years ago was seen as a good end to the season when objectively last season was “better” even though the end was a bit of a shit sandwich garnished with clive allen’s pubes so if we smash’n’grab 4th this season after a roller coaster ride of highs and lows then we’ll all be happier than we were after a season where we managed to be credible challengers before falling off a cliff. but that, like chewbacca being from the moon planet… Read more »

Nothing is impossible and everything is possible. To win the next five games looks an impossible task but if the gunners tighten up the defence and convert repeat convert the chances created, there is no reason why the gunners can’t win the five games. For this to take place,Wenger has to have a change.
Don’t have a hdl and go kamikaze on attack. That will leave gaps for the enemy to exploit. No mistakes in defence and the defenders don’t go ball watchingg when the oppsition striker is about to shoot.Go with a two footed lunge. That should intimidate him.

Martin Keown is my hero

I agree that nothing is impossible. But I think 5 straight league wins is unlikely for us. In fact if we win our next 5 league games I’ll wear tracksuit bottoms with shoes for a whole week.

Voldermort

How sweet would that be tho eh, spurs going for 4 th till last few weeks and we creep up on the rails with 5 straight wins and fuck em right at the last. Almost worth a crap start to the season. If heineken done end if season finishes eh … We would still fuck it up no doubt

Mooro

Fuckin lovely mate. It’s a long way off this season, but we’ve been there before.

Everyone seems to remember Lasagne-gate, while forgetting we levelled it up against the cunts with 5mins left, then after that game still had to go to Sunderland and City and get wins.

THEN comes their collective arse’ole failure at W Ham, while TT destroys Wigan.

Ah, happy days…

Arsenal

honestly, i doubt we will get a result (and boy am I praying for one) especially now that Sagna is out for 3 MONTHS!
Now we have Carl Jenkinson who really should still be playing reserve team football. It is now looking to me like selling Eboue was a very poor move.

the only sam is nelson

I’d rather worry that CJ might make mistakes than know Eboue will.

Really don’t understand the comdemnation of a player who is a: a gooner and b: hasn’t actually played enough matches to pass judgement on

weird

Stevep72

Win every game! If me Aunt had bollocks she’d be me Uncle.

London Calling

Arseblog or Andrew. Good Day With the exception of RVP, are you aware of any of our team players who are very vocal (not TV5 or any injured). Someone in the current sqaud who has the organisation skills to plan Away Days, without the Manager and the Coaching staff. (Are they permitted to travel collectively)? I was thinking just the players travelling somewhere together for two nights or more to chat to discuss and debate, to shout and scream about everything. In my opinion the players need to let go. Release the shackles that bind them so they get to… Read more »

NorthernGoon

I completely agree with you. This is exactly why the new players should have been brought in at the beginning of the transfer window.bI’ve been on similar “away” trips with work for very similar reasons and they are very effective.

It’s blatantly clear that it’s not a question of quality but what is seemingly apparent is that for some reason this team, generally speaking, don’t have the desire to play. The simple question is, “Why?”

Sd

I went on an away trip once and my boss tried to bum me 🙁

Frog

Ya they could all sit around the campfire and tell stories and hold hands and play games to learn to trust each other. Or……………. They could stop playing like a bunch of pussies, grow some balls, get stuck in, make a fucking tackle, RUN back when they cock up in possession and maybe even attack the opposisirion like they give a proper duck for 94 minutes. then maybe our captain could pull aside the counts who weren’t putting in a shift and kick the living fuck out of em. That’s an idea. I know that would get results.

London Calling

Oh Dear Me…

Johnny Massacre

It’s weird, because over the years Wenger has been faced with the pressing questions before many games. Like, “If we lose this one, we’re TOTALLY fucked! What will we do if we lose it!?” And we never lost them. Hell, I remember beating Man U when Wenger left Henry on the bench and Eduardo scored a deflected free kick. All the shit is coming our way at the moment. And what makes it “hard to swallow” [sorry] is that the defending isn’t just bad, it’s embarrassingly horrendous. It is setting records of, how can I put this … shitness? We… Read more »

Goonerific

Less talk, more action, oh wait the way song played at whl, carry on talking.

N7 Gooner

I think top 4 is still very much on. I mean, we have heaps of games left and the gap really isn’t that big. Personally I’d like us to play 2 holding midfielders and get a bunch of 1-0’s if we can. Song + le Coq or Frimpong in front of BFG/Koscielny and Vermaelen = surely we’ll start to claw our way back into the fame!

We shoud play to our strenghts, and bizarrely for Arsenal our strength seems to be our bumper crop of 3 decent holding mids!

Goonerific

How about they only get paid from here on out if they win a game, or do not concede goals?

Midfield Corporal

16 points from the next five games and we’ll be fine.

athelas

ya…for sure we will lol

Alex Fisher

What does everyone think of Lee Dixon’s view that we’ll struggle to make top eight this season?

I personally think we’ll get fourth (just), but only if van P stays fit and TV stays fit once he’s back in the team. They’re integral.

And when you hear someone like Song talking like he does here, you feel like going and showing him a video of the Spurs match where he passes the ball straight to one of their guys, leaving Parker one on one, and saying: How about just going back to basics instead of shooting yourself in the foot??

northerngoon

On current form I’d say a top eight finish will be an achievement and to be fair I’ve said that since the season started.

I had hoped that after the disastrous summer the last minute signings would make a difference but seeing as AW is only using two out of four of them…

G5

Personally, i hope that we should be able to take 12 pts from the next 5.
Realistically, at this rate, we might take 7 or 8.

Pele of Romford

Judging from some of the comments on here. It’s a good time to learn how to support your club chaps.

Nasri is a cunt

Frog

I was about to make the comment of less talk more cock, but in this case it Alex song talking. He’s one of the few in the squad the past few years who has put in consistent performances, in my opinion he’s earned the right to speak up. Next month when rvp goes down with his customary 6 month bid in the training room and tv5 is still unfit due to a strained flux capacitor in his delorian, I vote we make Alex our permanent club captain. In my opinion , we have four players in our squad whom play… Read more »

just curious as to what i said to get 7 thumbs down. it seems everything i wrote is just about true. i mean really, who actually thinks robin is going to stay fit the entire season? and is it not true that jack and sagna are out for extended periods? and isnt tv5 s injury record about on par with diaby? im just being realistic hear. no need to finger me down!!!

GaryFootscrayAustralia

If Jack, TV5 and RVP were all out at the same time, I’d have no hesitation in giving the captaincy to SZCZ. He’s not too young. The best Arsenal post – war captain was 21 when he was given the reins. SZCZ would relish it.

Bromley Gooner

What a legend blogs is, he needs to be in the dressing room riling up the team like Churchill sending the boys out to war! What a blog today loved it!!

Bob also from bromley

Totally agree Bromley Gooner that made my day too.

Voldermort not from Bromley

Totally agree, what makes you a fan ? It’s the colors, the history of what’s gone before the anticipation of whats to come, the eleven more titles than what spurs have won. Great blog.

Best blog ever, well played blogs.
