Lukasz feeling so a-loan

Arsenal’s second best Polish goalkeeper, Lukasz Fabianski, admits he would like to go out on loan to further his chances of playing in Euro 2012. Fabianski has fallen behind compatriot Wojciech Szczesny at club and international level, and after just two appearances this season he’s itching to play.

Quoted in today’s Sun, Fabianski says, ” I had a chat with the boss a few days ago and it was quite an intensive one. It was me who asked to speak although we will have a few more chats.

“I want my situation to be resolved in the nearest future because I want to play at Euro 2012. I hope Wenger will understand me and we find a solution. I want to play for Arsenal but if not, I will have to go somewhere else, even if it is on loan.”

However, it seems unlikely to Arseblog News that the Arsenal manager will let Fabianski go anywhere mid-season. If he does all it would take is for one small knock to Szczesny and then for Mannone to drop a pizza stone on his foot for a full on Almuniasation of the goalkeeping position.

It might well be unfortunate for Fabianski who, ironically, lost his place in the Arsenal team after a Szczesny shot in a warm-up spranged his shoulder to smithereens, but even if he does go elsewhere he’s unlikely to get into the Polish team ahead of his younger comrade anyway. Only injury would clear his path to the team, and if that happens he’d be in the Arsenal team as well so he’s just as well staying where he is.

I do feel for Fabianski though, despite the continued excellence of our favourite Polish keeper. He doesn’t seem like a bad guy and all but had the misfortune for massive screw-ups and was labelled Flappyhandski by many of the club’s own fans. Yet he is still fairly loyal to the club. A lot of players will go whinging and crying if they are abused by their own fans, yet Fabianski still wants to stay. As a fan I do say I really appreciate that and I hope the best for him if he goes. On a footballing perspective, he can’t… Read more »

I agree, he was just starting to come good when he got injured, it’s a shame for him but with Szczesny having greater potential and also being pretty solid (his tendency to slide into twats when he comes out of goal aside) he’s stuck as 2nd choice at least until the Summer when I assume we’ll assess the keeping situation.

Mooro

I like the bit where he slides into twats. Particularly when they then blub like a tart like the Mr Shifter lookilikie from the PG Tips advert.

One of my favourite things about Sczcesny is the Sczcesny Versus corners on arsenal.com.

Good job, son.

Wonder where he picked up the ‘sons’ from?

It baffles me how people keep clinging on my comment that Fabianski looks like a nice guy. It’s not even the main point of my post. Guys, if we want to be pragmatic, yes, we need Fabianski to stay as a backup, or we will have to let him leave since he will not displace Sczcesny in the foreseeable future. If we want to be a little more appreciative of the human qualities of footballers who have been loyal to us, then I don’t think feeling sorry for him is not impossible. True, he’s messed up a lot of times,… Read more »

“I doubt Szcz will get injured this season” Oh man, that’s torn it!

Savage is a Dave

“He doesn’t seem like a bad guy…” whats that got to do with the price of fish? He will never displace Chesney. Ever. His career as first team keeper at Arsenal is over. He is a liability on crosses and opposition players seem him as the soft touch that he is. A nice guy probably, but that doesnt catch the ball when its whipped into the area.

That’s why I put ‘On a footballing perspective’ in my third paragraph, d’uh.

I felt sorry for him as a person, but as a pragmatist Sczcesny looks like the right choice.

uioone

he wets his pants, in a pressure game…. that is the diff btn him and ches!

uioone

we dont need nice guys, we need tough guys with a strong mentality…… FFS

Anon

Right… we need John Terries, Ashley Coles, Wayne Roonies and Xavis.

Xavi was a tough guy, he didn’t want to admit Barca lost. A sore loser is a tough guy.

You need a good personality to make the squad blend well. I don’t want to have a whole squad full of Ronaldos would I? That would be horrible.

Merlin's Panini

If you want Ashley Cole and John Terry why don’t you support Chelsea instead.
I don’t want either of those ubercunts at the Grove. They’re the scum of the earth.

Yes, it’s good to have tough players but we don’t need these outright cunts. We have class and dignity at Arsenal and that’s how it needs to stay.

paddymac

A whole squad of Ronaldos? There would never be enough hair gel…

By the way, talking of John T***y, I recall during our horrific start to the season, two Arsenal podcasts (neither if which were the Arsecast, obviously) both talked of how they would love to have him at Arsenal. I remember the phrase “I’d take him any day of the week”. It really fucking bugged me at the time and the same people are raving about Kos and Verm now. Short fucking memories.

Sorry, just needed to get that one off my chest!

Peru Arse

xavi was a tough guy? really?????????????

Voldermort

Don’t give a monkeys if fab is a nice guy, the bloke is not good enough and has shown it a number of times. If he can get a move then good luck to him but his future should not be at arsenal.

Gary

Wenger gave him loads of chances and he always managed to screw it up. He has no chance of displacing Sczcesny who is a class act and will be one of the top 3 keepers in the world in the next year or so.

It would be better for him to leave but I hope he stays as he did start to play well last season and has proved he is a good backup. He owes us another year or two.

Midfield Corporal

He’s a good No 2, but let’s not forget he was still looking poor when coming out for high balls under pressure- remember our home defeat to The Toon.
His semi final performance against Chelsea and giving Porto the ball so they could score into an open goal, live long in the memory.

the only sam is nelson

we know that SCZC has bollocks the size of boulders because after letting in eleventy gazillion goals in August he just carried on as if he’d won the player of the month award, which of course he had. Fucking nailed it, son. Made a mistake? Fuck it and move on. You’ve got balls and talent.

More of that, please.

Poor Fab on the other hand made a mistake or two and took on the haunted look of poor Manuel. Hunted, frightened, victim. Not good.

Gutbukkit Deffrolla

Remember though, that there was a general witch hunt against any and all Arsenal goalkeepers at the time, so Fabianski was never going to be cut the slack that Chesney was this season. Arsenal were so inexperienced / poor / panickyas a team when they played United that people were very forgiving of Chesney for conceding 8 goals. Nobody seems to remember that the referee in that Porto match last year demanded the ball from Fabianski and having taken it immediately turned his back to him, obscuring his view of the toerag who snatched the ball from the refs hand… Read more »

I will agree that Szczesny is an overall better keeper than Fabianski, but I still think Fabianski is the better shot-stopper. He gets to balls going into the corners better. That being said, he doesn’t take crosses well, and that’s a major liability. Also, if the massive errors Szczesny has made over the 30-some games he’s played for us (giving up more than one penalty with clumsy challenges, almost getting caught out dribbling a few times, not to mention the winner at WHL and the mixup in the Carling Cup) had been made by Fabianski, we would have crucified him,… Read more »

Am I alone when I suggest that Szczesny has been a bit shit this season? I’m sure his shots to goals ratio is the highest in the league.

Spooner

Don’t think it’s the worst & can’t remember the exact figure (so may stand to be corrected), but SZCZ’s saves to shots is something like 65%. Fabianski I think is 73%, but has played less & wasn’t in that freak game at OT where almost all of Manure’s shots were almost unstoppable. Don’t know the stats, but I’d guess his stats on dealing with crosses & dealing with loose balls would be relatively much better. I watched the MOTD of the Chelsea match again yesterday- love the bit where SZCZ almost gets sent off, then accepts the yellow, walks back… Read more »

TSOTIA

maybe you’ve been viewing him through shitty eyes. Just maybe.

Lborocanuck

The problem with Fab is not that he’s too nice but that he’s too sane to be a top keeper. SZCZ, on the other hand is clearly barking. I like him.

CAGooner

I know, it sucks to be a number 2 keeper, but sorry, dude, as long as Almunia is on the squad, you ain’t going nowhere!

ramgooner

u r the reason SZCZ is playin well…cuz he knos if he fucks up u ruin his arsenal and national career….stay here and keep pushing him son!!!we need u and we love u…take ur chances in the cup matches!!!but again poor guy…what can u dowith squillachi infront

paddymac

I think you are alone in this view mate. Stats don’t always reflect the true nature of what is happening – as others have pointed out the 8-2 will seriously affect any stats and not give a true reflection of SZCZ’s impact so far. We can all see what a presence he is, and although he has made mistakes, some of his saves have been nothing short of breathtaking. He has the right attitude, supreme confidence and a willingness to learn and improve. It can only be a good thing for us – he’s still very inexperienced and as time… Read more »
