Sagna wants signings

Bacary Sagna is hoping Arsenal will be busy in the transfer market this summer and has said that midfielder Yann M’Vila would be the perfect fit should he arrive at the club.

Quoted in this morning’s Mirror, the right back says the capture of Lukasz Podolski is a good start but he wants to the club to be more active.

“We want more players to come to the team,” he said. “Lukas Podolski has arrived already and he is a German international and a quality player.

“M’Vila can make a great impact. I’m not sure about his English but it took me time to learn. But I think he would suit us as well. Arsenal is a French-speaking team and it will help him settle.”

And he’s confident that with new players, perhaps to help the club cope with the raft of injuries we seem to suffer, we can challenge next season

“I think we can be contenders this coming season. We showed a lot of people what we could do last season. It was difficult for us but we kept fighting.

“If we had not had so many injuries then I think we would have gone closer to winning trophies this season.”

Sagna also spoke about the skipper and his situation and says he’s confident that van Persie will be an Arsenal player next season.

“I’m confident Robin will stay. He was a complete professional from the beginning until the end and helped us into third.

“We want to keep him. Everyone is so grateful to him for what he’s done for the club and how important he is.

“He is our captain and he takes his role and responsibilities very seriously. He gives everything as a player and captain.”

Let’s hope he’s on the money in both cases. And despite missing the European Championships having had the same leg broken twice last season, Sagna isn’t worried about any long-term complications.

“It is making progress and everyone at the club is helping me through. I’m out of plaster, been in a boot and will see the specialist before I go on holiday.

“I was devastated to miss the Euros – especially missing the England game – but I will be back for Arsenal. I hope to be back for the start of the season but I don’t want to set a timescale.”

I absolutely adore Sagna. True gooner.

Attasmani

I love how a lot of players in this team seem to really care about the club. Talent is important, but so is character and we obviously lacked that in the last few years. A few quality additions, and the good times will come again.

fil_gunner

Oozing with Arsenal DNA 😉

goonero

Really hope he is able to play for us by the start of the season, along with M’vila and simply getting players contracts wrapped up, we’ve seen first hand the effect of a summer of transfer rumors on key players has.

JOhn

It looks like the club have asked him to clarify his comments- he just wrote:
“Hello guys hope u all good.just want to say about M’vila that I never said he signed already for the ones who think I did.said he’s good, and he will settle to english football and our team quickly if he had to come”
Maybe they don’t want to be accused of tapping up?

ken

To some degree to keep RVP we need signings and to get signings we need to keep RVP. It’s a vicious circle and only the board and Wenger can break it.

ontheup

In fairness, the offer is out there. I think in this case only RVP will break the circle.

Unreal gunner

Apparently when the board met with rvp over the infamous cup of tea and muffins they never really offered the £130k a week wages but instead told him he wasn’t going to leave and that was that. So the problem still very much lies with the stingy board.

THEREISBEARCUM

Given that in such a meeting it would have been only the board and Van Persie in there – who exactly would have leaked that info?

ggggggoooooooonnnnnnneerrrrr

whadaya say, give the good man what he wants wont ya?

Gunnermanic

What is he waiting for more money, opportunities elsewhere or delaying to simply see how we operate in the transfer market and size up the teams potential to win trophy’s?

Fatgooner

The problem now is that there appears to be just a top three now – Chelsea, Man City and Man United – and we can’t compete with them for wages. The Eden Hazzard situation now sums up our situation: we can’t attract the very best because the other three are paying stupid money.

At best now we are looking at finishing third or fourth – we are incapable of challenging for the title.

It stinks, doesn’t it?

Dwangoon

If Arsenal had chose to sign Hazard or Mata last season rather than saving a little more in the form of Gervinho….

Look, there are good players out there, it is Arsenal/Wenger/Board indecision that caused good signings gone one by one, just last season alone there are plenty of examples.

At the end, it was a panic buy at the dead of the transfer window that ended up with mostly scraps leftovers.

Fatgooner

The Mata situation last year proves my point. He looked at what we were offering, then Chelsea – then chose Stamford Bridge. And it doesn’t help that we are now a selling club. What top player wants to go to a club which sells its best players at the end of every season? If you want to win the big trophies then we are probably the last side that a top player would sign for.

miranda

@Fatgooner Mata himself said last summer that we were his first choice and he was expecting us to make an offer for him while the release clause was still in place and he was available for almost half what Chelsea ended up paying. Why didn’t we? Ben Lyttleton’s article which I left a link to on (I think) the loan-player-stats thread provides a plausible account of what happened, imo. He’s a good journalist who writes occasional articles on France for the Guardian, not some half-baked fan spewing out bile on the internet, though obviously, since he wasn’t a ginger biscuit… Read more »

Thorough

@Fatgooner. Miranda did a wonderful eye-opener that I’ll love to add to. Mata’s father said after our first offer that he expects us back. We lost Mata because our board and Wenger are fond of fucking up deals and refusing to pay up. The release clause we were suppose to activate expired on July 31st, while Mata signed for Chelsea on August 24th. Let’s stop fooling ourselves we lost Mata (and many other stars that we refuse to pick up) to Chelsea’s millions, we DIDN’T. Wenger could have picked him up for 6million pounds less than Chelsea paid yet he… Read more »

i hate your comment, but its the truth, at least about the players part, i never really felt arsene was the type to really go after world class players, mostly really talented youth but more or less he was more concerned about molding the team he had to be a brilliant side and the man who perfectly complimented him was david dein, his ambition in the transfer market plus arsene wengers focus on the team made Arsenal into Europes elite but now david has gone and we have lost a lot of drive in the transfer market, arsene is still… Read more »

Hazard is Man Ure or Shitty material. Spoilt brat etc…
He wouldn’t fit in at Arsenal.

Tim

But seriosly if wenger doesn’t get the message this time then goddamn my arsenal. First it was rvp then szcz and now sagna.
Oh wenger, time to get out of your self-imposed cocoon and get more additions onto the squad.
In wenger I trust……………still.

NorthernGoon

Its got sod all to do with Wenger and the sooner people realise that the better. He just bleats out the tired old rhetoric about squad size because he’s too decent a man to say that Gazidis and Kroenke are screwi.. I mean, trying to maintain a certain financial model. In response to Fatgooner et al, I think the jury is still out on whether we’re a selling club. If we retain RVP then it sends a message out and confirms the clubs ambition. We’ll suddenly find ourselves more attractive to higher calibre players if that happens. If RVP is… Read more »

miranda

Wenger is loyal; he’s prepared to carry the can for whatever cock-ups/economies his employers (Kroenke-Gazidis) should make. He has, however, made it quite clear on several occasions that the club has to run at profit and he therefore has to sell – to the tune of 15-20m – before he can buy.

So, until the dead wood (or a large proportion of it) is offloaded, which won’t happen till after the Euros, don’t expect us to be making offers for anyone.

Thorough

@Northerngooner. How can u speak so authoritatively as if you are privy to the goings-on at the back of the curtain? I’m forced to think the same too bacuse Wenger of the first 7years is so different from the Wenger of the last 7years but that doesnt mean my assumptions are right. Board comes out today and says if Wenger wants a player for 30million he can have him and Wenger says he’ll hand back a 100million kitty if given to him after PHW or someone joked about it. Isn’t it time to start assuming that Wenger’s success has gotten… Read more »

@Thorough You say Wenger’s testosterone has run out. I think that’s a harsh way of putting it, but I see where you’re coming from. Wenger is incredibly devoted to Arsenal and to his job, so much so he’ll put up with any miserable indignity that’s dumped on his shoulders. Hill-Wood sacks his dearest friend and trusted colleague, but does Wenger walk out or even protest? Nope, ashen-faced and presumably thinking the decision was suicidal for the club, he accepts it and soldiers on as before, except now he’s shouldering the burden of Dein’s work as well as his own, and… Read more »

Ahaha wenger is loyal?. All I know is that he can’t leave arsenal now. He wants to prove to himself and to the world that a financially well assembled squad can win something without stupid riches like that of mancity and the likes.
I got your back on this one wenger……show ’em.

Unreal gunner

Rvp seems to be that nut that’s holding arsenal together. Oh God even sagna the beast knows this. Come on rvp sign sign sign sign!
I’l stop whining now.

why is my name required

We need to show the world that we are not a selling club. Plus we must get rid of the dead weight and free up some squad space

miranda

I wouldn’t be surprised if the club takes the same view as you and we keep Van Persie one more year to send out a message to the world that we’re not to be messed with. I’m afraid I disagree. I don’t think clinging to players who are wondering whether the grass might be greener elsewhere makes us look tough. I think it makes us look desperate and dim. Far better, as soon as a player shows he has doubts about staying – e.g. when Cesc gave an interview on Catalan radio announcing his desire to come home to Barca;… Read more »

Your post makes a lot of sense however I don’t necessarily agree re: a player having to accept an offer right away or take the risk of being transferred. While in principle you have the right idea, it is more akin a dictatorship to expect players to be loyal, committed and play well and also accept the very first offer that the club came up with. Of course these guys make silly money but I don’t think there’s any need for there to be consensus on the very first meeting. The whole point about discussions is it takes time and… Read more »

I am all with if RVP didn’t want to stay he can go. But, we would bank the money like the Fab and Le cunt money until we get hammered and do last minute dross shopping!!!!!!!!!!!.

And, Arsene is respectable and protecting the board for their miss-managements of the club by keeping quiet? How about us supporters? Don’t we deserve little respect and for him to tell us the TRUTH???????????????.

Presumably he wants new signings – but not at right back!?

Arsenal have I think the most cock up of a board since like forever. Blinded by profit making in almost every aspect of the game and spending the least to ensure a balance in financial welfare of the club. This doesnt really help in the transfer market now does it?. The prospect of signing a player we actually need goes into flames once the so called “top dogs”(chelsea, manc, manu) contend for them too. We have lost quite a few proven talents of late in mata, silva, phil jones just coz of “were arsenal, we cant go above this” attitude. Well fuck… Read more »

Runcorn Gooner

Sagna said “Arsenal are a French speaking team”.Does this explain some of the
problems at the back during the season?

Cygan's Left Foot

No, Kos, Verm, Sagna and Song all speak French and Santos can speak any language he wishs.

Harold Thornby

I want signings too. Craig Gordon for GK cover. Cissokho, Sakho and Van Der Wiel for defensive cover – all be pretty cheap being out of favour or what not. M’Villa for the first team. Nick Powell for the future. And bring in another striker in Giroud.

How do I get these suggestions to Arsene?

Voldermort

Last summer can’t happen again, the fans at the ground just won’t accept it this time. We need players and we need them soon to convince rvp that he can achieve his ambitions with us. If the board and wenger fail to act this time and rvp is also sold then the grove will Empty far quicker and more often than last year and the discontent will get far far worse. It’s one thing not winning trophies I can accept other teams being better than us, but for a club of our size, wealth and season ticket prices to not… Read more »

Fatgooner

Totally agree with you, Voldermort. But sadly, I honestly believe that from Kroenke down to Wenger the set-up at the club is to just finish fourth and make as much money as possible. But the pressure will start to really build up from now: Arsenal is far too big a club to be limited to such low expectations from its management. I can see furious supporters demonstrating outside the ground this season after, yet again, we fail to even challenge for the title or any other trophy. Something fundamental has to change at the club. We just can’t go on… Read more »

Spot on. We are a big club. Not the Rubbish Spuds down the road. We expect to challenge, win or lose that is another subject, but challenging for the league and other trophies is a must for a club as big is The Arsenal. If the Yanks wanted to make profit and competing comes second, he should have invested in a club like the Spud, Fulham or WBA. The Arsenal TRUE supporters will never accept it for long. We have a great set up, and EVEN though I disliked Arsene in the last 7 years, I still think with the… Read more »

The TRUE Arsenal fans won’t put up with Kroenke? Er, fighting talk but how do you reckon they’ll get rid of him, then? Same way United fans have got rid of the Glazers? United fans, at least a significant section of them, have been well organised and resourceful right from the day the takeover became a reality. Trouble was, their admirable efforts were doomed from the start because for every one of them that protested and gave up their season ticket there were hundreds of thousands of glory-hunters queuing up to take over their seats. The only protests from Arsenal… Read more »

You forgot few difference things between the situation at the Manures and us; The Manures were winning leagues, cups and European cup (3 finals in 4 years). If The Arsenal were doing that, I would never have to ready your defeatist attitude post. The Manures could replace the TRUE supporters with plastics because of the winning and it is known as the home of the plastics since the 90s. Why all this we will die if RVP goes. If he wants to go let him! The lad has done good for us and he is quality but he wants to win things. Bad managment bad coaching and bad use of money all of thhese things can change but who is going to tell him? Wenger has become to strong and in my and many other gooner fans opinions it is time to say thank you for the glory years and goodbye!

Facial

How different is a guy like Sagna to a lot of modern footballers? The man is not even English or from London, yet he is true to Arsenal and really wants to repay the faith that was put in him. True gunner and a true legend at RB.

gunsen gurner

We’re still champions of the last premier league day.Sky just salivates at sheikh Citeh and i can’t believe there are deluded city fans who actually believe their current team is better than the Invincibles! I hope lessons habe been learnt last summer. If they have we will most likely have our business done in the first few weeks after the euros. Also could someone explain why we had to go to anfield and win by two goals?i thought we were level on points at the end of the season?

ramgooner

it’s not wenger,it’s not rvp,it’s not steve rowley and it’s not that we don’t have money.

our board is shite.we don’t have anyone who is in complete control of finances.
i think someone should teach them the difference between ‘spending’ and ‘investing’.

John

Top lad and top player he truley understands that he is blessed to be a footballer and always gives 100% every time he goes out on the field. I’m hoping the fact V Perise has called the board to start spending this will eventually happen. Fcat is we have loads of players that are surplus to requirments if these were shifted the club wouldnt need to spend huge amounts of money. If we could get 30M in for Bendtner, Vela, Chamakh, Park, Squallaci, Hoye, Watt, Denilson, Landsbury, Fabinaski, Mannone. @AR I’m not suggesting we shouldn’t have prolonged negotiatiations with players. Quite the contrary: I think we should have been negotiating with Van Persie 18 months ago; ditto with Walcott and Song who, as far as I know, still haven’t been offered new contracts. It’s when the players themselves don’t want to negotiate – as was the case with Cesc and Nasri – because their desire is to be somewhere else, that the hanging about waiting becomes a bad thing. Van Persie refused to have contract negotiations when we proposed them at the beginning of the season, so how long… Read more »

Miranda – fair enough. I am all for quick action but equally indifferent about this whole ‘our best players leave every year’ thing. Anyway that wasn’t in response to your post just a tangent that I went off on. And your points regarding Kroenke are spot on, just a pity not many people are open to logical solutions. Today’s realist either believes Wenger is the root of all evil or is so defensive about the manager, he’s beyond blame. This is the only site with even an ounce of sense but then drama and hype are entertaining everywhere 🙂

arsefriend

In regards to Ju Young Park’s contractual agreement with the selling club (As Monaco), Arsenal is liable for additional cash payment to Monaco if the player featured more games this season. Venger opted not to use him unless its critical on some games. Now Venger can’t blame the player for his performance. But had the player was one of a game changer type you know he will be up there with RVP…

heihaci

Man Utd are signing kagawa for 15 million. Missed opportunity for a class player without breaking the bank!

Goonerific

Exactly I am pissed about this, we should of tied him up before Hazard was done, as kagawa seems to be 2nd choice for these other clubs.

Looks like another summer of missing out to the big money 3. Looks like another summer of no names hoping they come good, but not big enough to keep RVP at this rate.
three summers of low key signings didnt keep cesc or nasri or others, this has to be the summer to buy some to keep RVP.

atjeh

let us all tell wenger to stop buy players.then he might wants to sign more
