Such is the progress that Carl Jenkinson has made this season there’s a discussion about where his international future might lie.
It’s fairly typical of the ‘in the moment-ness’ that exists in football that there’s talk of him receiving an England call up, while the youngster is also qualified to play for Finland through his mother.
He’s a well grounded young man though and he says he’s not paying any attention to the international game and wants to concentrate on further establishing himself for Arsenal.
“I’m just concentrating on my club football, that’s my bread and butter,” he said at today’s press conference. “I’m just focused on the here and now and the next game against Olympiacos.
“[Finland] have contacted me. I told them, ‘I’m focusing on my club football’ so that’s all there is to it. You can read into that how you want.
“I’m going to have to make a decision at some point. As I’ve said many times, I will cross that bridge when I come to it. Until then I’m just concentrating on each game as it comes.”
And after a not unexpectedly turbulent start to his Arsenal career, having made a big step up straight into a team that was going off the rails, Jenkinson is finding his feet at this level and feeling better for it.
“I am really enjoying my football and I think that’s a big part of things. I think confidence is a big part. I’m feeling good at the moment and hopefully I’ll just keep building on my game and my confidence will grow with it.
“I feel comfortable at this level now. I think I have acclimatised you could say. I just want to push on and hopefully keep going as I’m going.”

Jenks, your granddad is very proud
Well done Jenks.
Happy for the lad. Living the dream.
Taking it game by game and doing it excellently..Keep up the hardwork..
Jenks grandad is in a happy place right now, arsenal jersey on and waiting for tomorrows’ game.
I do love a true Gooner!
He can.. err.. play for whoever the fuck he wants…err… as long he delivers for arsenal…err… he shows good mental strength from match to match.
Sorry mate, but sagna is back in three weeks. Best rb in the prem. get cozy next to theo and arshavin.
Sad but probably true.
Ouch
Bit uncalled for but eh
Let’s be realistic here. He’s a great lad, he’s a gooner, he’s learning his trade and he will be our rb of the future. Bacary sagna is a beast. He’s the best rb in England, maybe the world. If he’s fit, he’s playing. End of.
Sagna is quality, but until he’s 100 percent, I’d stick with Jenks. He’s gaining confidence with every game and is already a better crosser of the ball than Sagna — or anyone else on the team, for that matter.
Id say he could challenge sagna for a start in the side considering sagnas situation, contract (doesnt seem happy about the transfer policy) and age wise I can see jenkinson being used tactically in place of sagna over the season to rest sagna as well as to give jenks the extra experience he needs to take over in a season or two when sagna.
Best crosser of the ball at the club.
And we cross the ball to who?
just to change the mood slightly but Bate Borisov have ruined my accumulator by beating Bayern this evening…. just goes to show that you can’t take any team lightly.
Jenko is the absolute boy! Knew he had potential last season and didn’t actually think he was as bad as everyone made out, I honestly believe that sagna will be one of the annual established players emigration and jenko will take over and be a beast for us for for the rest of his career
It’s obvious the lad wants the England call-up.
He’s going from strength to strength and yes, he will be back on the bench when Bac gets back but this run of games has done him a world of good!
LLEEEEERRRRROOOOYYYYYYY!
JENKIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNSSS

Delighted for a true gunner, it’s good to know we now have great cover for sagna when he does come back
Nothing beats having a true Gooner from a Gooner family in the side, it’s like he’s living our dream. I think it’s up to Sagna to displace him now, I’m not a fan of players coming back into the team without a fight just because of their reputation, it benefits both players, and if Bac isn’t up for it it tells you something about his character, but im sure he will relish the battle.
If Giroud finds his form I can see Jenks crosses being very productive.
Love jenks and what he represents, a true gooner playing for the club he loves. Bit of a throwback really. Sagna will probably come into the team straight away but being his understudy for a year or two will do Jenks a world of good. Can see him being our starting RB for the next decade if he keeps progressing like this.
