Back in the team, back beating Spurs and back baiting their deluded fans, it’s little surprise that Wojciech Szczesny has a smile on his face after a troublesome start to the season.
Injured for all but two Premier League games prior to Saturday’s 5-2 win in the North London derby, the Pole hasn’t been in goal nearly as much as he’d like this season. Nevertheless, having overcome a niggly ankle problem he’s now looking to help the Gunners put together a decent run both domestically and in Europe.
Speaking after the defeat of Spurs, the 22-year-old revealed that all eyes were already on Wednesday’s game with Montpellier and with it the chance to qualify for the knockout round of the Champions League.
“We couldn’t get a better time to play that game [against Spurs],” he told Arsenal Player.
“Obviously, all Premier League games are as important as the next one but I think the fans enjoy it just that little bit more [against Tottenham] – when we won you could see how much they were buzzing after the game.
“At the final whistle there were still 60,000 people there – the only fans who left were the Tottenham fans. It was fantastic.
“We are buzzing today, we can’t wait for the next game. We’re confident.
“We’ve had a couple of poor results recently, but we’re back on track and we’re confident that we can get the three points and qualify for the knockout stages, which is the least you can ask from us.
“We want to make sure we do the job properly and qualify.”
After Wednesday’s clash with the reigning French champions Arsenal face six away tests in eight games before Christmas. It’s a tricky run featuring matches in three competitions, which could well shape the rest of the season.
If Arseblog News remembers correctly, it was around this time last year that we ground out a few wins to help regain a foothold in the race for a Champions League position; let’s hope we can find a similar vein of form and start to claw back the gap which has opened between us and the leaders.
Hush mortals, it is me.
Thierry, ignore that cunt, i’m ashamed to call him dutch.
Good to have Woj back. There was one point where he went & grabbed Sagna & positioned him for corner v spurs. We’ve missed that
haha, golden Chezzers. Not that Sagna is the worst defender we got, at all. But like Blogs said earlier in the last few weeks, it’s about concentration not tactics. Especially in the case of dead balls. Time for Giroud to send us in style to the last 16, bring on his former club Montpellier!!
Good to see you back son and even better to hear the whole team is buzzing with confident. That’s great!
Shocked to note, however, that he considers second round qualifications as the least expected from the team. there is little that can be achieved when the bars of success are set so low.
com’on guys, the least expected should be the semis- nothing less should be good enough for the great Arsenal-change/update your mentality!
Change/update that picture. It’s scaring away children and the elderly.
Don’t be silly. At this stage its obvious our minimum aim is to qualify. You can’t win the thing if you don’t! 😉 Its all about the team thinking one step, one game at a time. A good mentality to have in truth, as each game holds its own importance and we hopefully don’t take any too lightly, as we can quite right be accussed of doing in the past 🙂
Ha ha – “only the Sp**s fans had left by the end.” They are fucking great at fire drills aren’t they? Suppose they have a lot of practice down in Swampland.
Oh and just to say bale is an ugly monkey faced cunt.
I’d be surprised if they weren’t. We gave them plenty of practice over the years after all.
Shall we sing a 5-2 song for you
I think we still need a little strengthning especially in the defensive areas sagna/jenkinson/koscielny/mertesacker/vermaelen/gibbs im quite happy with those 6 but i would still like to see djourou squillaci and santos traded for a new CB (yanga-mbwia) and a new LB (baines). If vito is happy to play 2nd choice keeper then i would let fabianski leave.but i would look for an experienced 3rd choice.keeper who can mentor our promising batch of young keepers szcesney mannone martinez shea charles-cook iliev and vickers. wilshire and arteta is an awesome pairing but currently the back up is coquelin and ramsey along with… Read more »
Anything else?
Arsene to be replaced by Mark Hughes. Lol
Heh. I don’t even think you could accomplish that in your latest version of FM.
Let’s see. 11 against 11 and things were not looking good against a team without Dembele, Ekotto, Parker, Caulker and Kaboul, and who lost Modric, van de Vaart and King recently. And then with 11 against 10 in the second half did not look too comfortable either. Yeah Arsenal took full advantage of the extra man, and played well – but don’t get too delusional
The kids are thumbing you down for being negative a truthful. I agree, it could have been 3-0 by the time he was sent off. The next two away games against Villa and City will tell us a lot
‘Could have been’ but it wasn’t was it? 5-2 lol
I think you’ll find we’ve played City this year.
So did u leave early along with the tottenham fans then? Cmon man! They won and yes it’s not solved a great number of our problems but let’s not be so critical all the time!
What shame that hes surprised 60,000 fans stayed for the final whistle 🙁
We should be having that kind of an atmosphere and dedication everygame. You can tell by szezsneys reaction that it counts…
Szczesny makes his share of mistakes, but he brings something that Mannone never had: Confidence. Even after the first goal, I felt secure with Szcz back there.
And he’s definitely a better keeper than Mannone. Just needs to work on his distribution.
Good to hear that the team are buzzing with Confidence!

Apparantly Spurs were in control from the first minute to the last. Five Arsenal goals from five Arsenal players tells me something different. AVB you are the worst.
