Carl Jenkinson says he’s ‘over the moon’ about signing a new deal at Arsenal and is eager to repay those who’ve helped him develop over the last 18 months.
Signed from Charlton with only a handful of League Two appearances to his name, the childhood Gooner has come on leaps and bounds under the stewardship of Arsene Wenger securing a berth as a first team regular and making his first appearance at international level for England.
Reflecting on an amazing 2012, capped off by his putting pen-to-paper on a long-term contract, Jenkinson told Arsenal.com how proud he was of his achievements.
“Obviously I’m over the moon – really happy. I see my future at this football club and I’m delighted they see things the same way.
“Signing the contract shows commitment from me, which Arsenal can always count on, but it’s a big commitment from them as well. People here clearly have belief in me, and now I have to make sure I prove them right.
“I’m obviously really pleased with my progress over the past 18 months. Of course there have been some challenging times along the way, and I’ve had to work really hard, but I’m pleased with where I am now and I’m so happy with the new contract.
“Now I just need to take every day as it comes, working and training hard.”
Carl also had a word about signing on the dotted line alongside three fellow Englishman – Gibbs, Wilshere and Oxlade-Chamberlain – and Welshman Aaron Ramsey.
“We’re an English club and I think the core of the squad should reflect that,” he continued. “That’s why I’m delighted the other boys have signed up with me.
“Arsenal has such a vast scouting system that it can pick up great players from numerous other countries, and that will always be the case, but I think it’s fantastic and appropriate to have an English core. It’s something the [English] fans can relate to.”
Really like this lad, could be a very important asset in the future and he really seems to love the club.
Plus he’s a heck of a footballer. And his name is Carl.
Gooner.
Ok so I love the fact that he’s a die hard Gooner at heart, I just don’t believe he’s anywhere near good enough or the standard of full back that Arsenal football club have had in the past.
He’s 20. As in, extremely talented… And 20.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Please f*ck off back to your Spurs troll-hole.
He is just putting his point forward doesnt mean you have to agree or compare it with the worst thing possible ( Spurs ).
WTF?! Are you a spud in disguise?
Damn.. Bad critisism.. How sad to see the guy is not even close to his prime..and thats the exciting bit.. He cn only grow.. And if his progress continues in this manner he will be world class.. Because all he has is time.. And working under sagna..? How can he fail.. Genuinely excited about him.. With him, wilshere and the ox.. Really think we have a great core.. Gibbs is getting there.. As long as they arsenal players I’ll support them.. COYG..!!
I would say Gibbs is the furthest progressed of the lot?
he’s young and if he improves at the same rate so far, he will be there. had a super game vs city this season, more of that please.
If posts are
a) abusive
b) illegible
c) clearly trolling with random content
please down-vote only then. Don’t up-vote if you want to disagree. I would like that system very much.
The guy says ‘ I believe’ for god’s sake, and he wasn’t being abusive or unintelligent, or not making a fair point.
Peace
This.
Far too often I see comments hidden just because the opinion of the author isn’t shared by most people. If you disagree, you can talk about it. You don’t need to tell someone to f*ck off back to a Spurs troll-hole.
Supporting a team shouldn’t mean that your opinion about every player has to be exactly what everyone else thinks.
Your name is awesome btw.
Mmmmm I dunno. Down voting seems an excellent way to disagree. It’s a clickable way of saying “fuck that.”
It’s called the “internet”, it has become a huge problem. Seems to be so hard to be nice to each others, when you are not seeing the person you tell to “fuck off”. It’s hard to see the reactions of the person, most of us wouldn’t say these things in real life. (Maybe to a cunt or a Spud, but not to regular people) We wouldn’t say it in real life, because we know that we would make someone upset. People gets upset by these comments on the internet as well, the difference is that we don’t see it. I… Read more »
Like blogs has said before, players have made it at this club that do not in particular have great technical ability. But they make up for it with desire and heart, atm Jenko is one of these which make his signing a very smart one. And hey he is always improving his game and where else to do it but with The Arsenal. The bastard, I’m so jealous!
Ray Parlour for one.
Gervinho?
Ahh the Romford Pele!
He will be the new Sagna, feels safe to have him as a substitute.
come jakinson abi na watin dem dey call u..abeg no dey carry ball go back plz..ah ah u wan to dey set s back…abeg always carry dey go front..u se waiten u do last time wa we play wigan..anyway u be good player sha.
Hey English or not, fuck off…..
On a seperate note, boxing day game postponed, but Emerates club shop open….leave it out Arsenal ffs…
I hope you mean that they should close the Club shop. Would be wrong to play a match on that day, because it is an terrible day for lots of people..
Dude’s speaking Jamaican, let the man be. He didn’t say anything offensive, and actually ended it on a positive opinion of the player.
I stopped reading after this kid misspelled Jenkinson.
Read the comment policy mate.
Riiiiight
Hahahahhhahhaaaaa…gosh u got me laughing seriously there bro. You con dey blow pigeon-English and got all our English brothers mad, lol!
Omo u gat a lot of guts.
Absolutely love it that he’s a gooner, and will be very interesting to see when sagna’s gone (hopefully MUCH later rather than sooner) how he and bellerin will compete for the RB spot cause personally i think they could both take each other to new levels with the amount of talent and potential they share
Walcott should and must repay Arsenal for giving him the opportunity when he was an ‘unrecognised player’. Now that he’s grown up ….its natural he has to repay Arsenal by being loyal and be a part of the Gooner’s Family at a good commanding wage of 75-80k week wage !!!!
On his central position as striker. Forget It!
He is best as a winger, with his pace and space that he is gien to do his runs-in in assists and striking opportunities!!
Okay guys, let’s sign this!
LLLLLLEEEEEERRRRROOOOOOYYYYYY!!!!
Love the Corporal, come into his own this year. He’s our next Lee Dixon.
This kid has massive potential. His desire and heart for the game is there for all to see. Plus, he has one of the best engines I’ve seen in quite some time. Although, he has still a great deal to learn. Worrying though we can’t seem to get Sanga tied down to an extension. Without doubt, for me he has been the best right back in the league for quite a few seasons. Yes, he has had a couple of bad injuries, but if we go back to his goal against The Spuds, and the fact that he blanked adebaycuntface… Read more »
It’s also shrewd since historically Britih players have not really made it abroad so there are fewer clubs these guys can sign for.

A Gooner at heart, we need more players like this. I Love Arsenal because Arsenal have substance and spirit
