Cazorla: we can hurt United

Santi Cazorla is confident that Arsenal can improve on their Old Trafford display and get a result against Manchester United tomorrow.

Arsenal were beaten 2-1 on the day, and played poorly, but the magical Spaniard says he knows we can play better and take something from the game.

Referencing the game earlier in the season, he said, “It wasn’t a good game for us. We didn’t play very well and made life hard for ourselves right at the start with Van Persie scoring within five minutes.

“We found it tough trying to break them down and they had a lot of good chances. Then we went down to 10 men after Jack got sent off. They played the game well. My goal at the end means the scoreline flattered us a bit and I think they were better than us in that match.”

The former Malaga man believes that keeping possession will be key to victory tomorrow.

“Above all we need to keep the ball,” he said. “If we have the ball, we’re definitely going to hurt them. We’re a team that keeps possession well and knows how to hurt the opposition.

“If we don’t, it’ll be the reverse. They’ll cause us problems because they have a lot of quality and when given space they can threaten us. Keeping the ball is the key. We need to force them back and not give them time on the ball as they have players that can make a difference.”

Let’s hope that when we do have the ball we do more with it than we did against Fulham, but after taking 19 points from the last 21 available in the league, there’s no reason why Arsenal shouldn’t feel confident, even if they are facing the champions.

shoot, you fucker!

The grover

Seriosly though what happened to shooting from distance. Jack, gibbs, arteta, cazorla of late too are all culprits especially when they find themselves in the best positions.

Poldi, giroud, monreal, ramsey all try but still never enough. Shoot guys, fucking shoot. It gets you a mysterious thing called goals and wins you matches ffs!

ckmma

The problem is though teams have found out we can’t make our own space easily. No matter how fast you pass the ball, when theres 11 people in the box and u have to get it to the back of the net, chances are its hits someone and is cleared. What we should improve on is scoring in set pieces, especially free kicks and corners, these are essentially free goals. We have scored 3 from set pieces all year apparently on MotD2, the second lowest after newcastle, thats just not good enough if you want to compete for trophies. Another… Read more »

Celeb

I imagine in practice the whole squad is great at set-pieces and everything is fine; but I think that’s down to an inability to defend the fuckers.

-Defend set pieces
-Defend counter attacks
-Don’t conced a penalty (kind of an important one)
-Don’t be given a red card.

Benis

Would love to hear that from the stands tomorrow; to the tune of What is Love by Haddaway:

What is cunt,
Robin van Persie,
van Persie,
that’s cunt.

Alex Cutter

Stay classy.

Joe

and thanks for stopping by.

gooner in manchester

the key word is mix it up

pensive gooner

Not really appropriate, but I would love to see Oxlade and Cazorla play a sort of double pivot in our attack. They would destroy United with their skill and pace.

LG

Me too… But I want Rociky Jack Ox and Santi playing!

Arty's Art

Exactly where do Ramsey and Arteta fit in that formation then?

It’d be madness, we’d concede so many goals.

We need our midfield metronomes to make the game work, and make the important tackles.

Bould's Eyeliner

LW: Cazorla, CF: Gerv (Poldi sub) RW: Ox
Mid: Ramsey Arteta Rosicky.

Although I would prefer Poldi and Ox to start, it’s a big game, and keeping them as subs for impact might be more likely. So Gervinho and Walcott start maybe? I don’t know…

UGooner

Theo’s been off form lately so most people are all for the Ox starting, but trust me, Theo flourishes in big games. He can do some damage, and especially since we don’t have our main centre forward, we need someone whose been getting us goals out there.

SB

I don’t mind how, as long as we win tomorrow

The grover

Well, take the ref out of the equation.

Benis

We as fan could also hurt them, e.g. by throwing coins at them. Coins attached to shovels. With spikes.

Might be a good time to point out that i will be giving out photo copied 100£ bills densley straped by a rubber band out side The Emirates to throw at the cunt when he takes corners this also will be a good for when Nasri comes to town but stop with the banana thing.

iloveTR7

I know this is a bit off topic but there has been something on my mind with which I’m still confused to.

When we kick-off at the start/after half-time, the person in the center passes back to either Kosc/Verm and they boot it to Walcott/whoever is on the right wing and then the opposition just head it clear. Why do we do this??? Is it some tactic that I’m unaware of? I’ve seen other teams do this as well and I’ve NEVER seen it work. I mean whats the point? (I’m genuinely confused…)

stat predictor

Lots of teams in Scotland do this. I asked my mate who plays football why and he said that it shows the opposition that you’re up for it and gives them a taste of what’s to come. I couldn’t really make sense of it and said it was stupid. I can’t believe we’ve started doing it, it’s rather pointless.

Kirk

the idea is that your right back and a centre mid are meant to be on their toes to pick up any misplaced header from the opposition full back, failing that he may knock it out of play and you get a chance of a quick throw.

It’s all about the percentages really but seems to fail almost 100% of the time. still, shows we have a tactic from kick off which is more than can be said for our corner kicks… sigh!

Arteta's Hair Gel

Kozzer’s the guy who usually does this. Mertesacker/Vermaelen look to play it to Arteta or a full back.

Davonz

12 months ago RVP decided after the Man U. game it was time to move. Now he is a champion. Arsenal should make the decision to be champions in a years time. A centre back and two tough midfielders plus a can do attitude and we will be champions this time next year.

Kcosby snr'

Ur getting it wrong son!we just need 1right/1center back,1 veryhard tackling/hassler defender that will echo a combination of capoue, yaya, wanyama, biglia into 1whole&a real goal poacher that possesses the quality of finishing hook line&sinker, then we can say we are ready 4all fronts

Celeb

Striker, keeper, midfielder and either sort out the Sagna contract or ship him out and replace.

AFCEdwards

Yeah that’s where we’ve been going wrong. We’ve decided not to be champions, why didn’t someone think of this before. Yep, we’ll be champions. Done.

Davonz

For nine years we sold all our best players and bought a load of cheap dead wood. The fans are happy with getting the fourth place trophy and we celebrate beating Spurs who last won the title 50 years ago. We have to raise the bar.

Alex Cutter

Yep.

But it’s easier to blame RVP, and not management, who sold him to our biggest rival.

Optimist

No team has won the league without at least 3 strikers…! Man u does it with four every year, man City did it with 4,Chelsea did it with 3 before, we can never do it with 1…. Think we need at least 2 more with giroud. Jovetic (if rumours are to be believed) and benteke would do along with is isco….

Cuntger

Hurt them Carz…literally.

pensive gooner

Does it make me a bad person if I want to see Squallaci come on for the last 5 mins and break RvP? I would much rather have him break a leg than Cazorla. We need Cazorla to do well in the future.

victoriaConcordiaCrescit

Yes it does. I Don’t understand your Cazorla comparison, it’s not ‘Sophie’s Choice’ hopefully no one gets their legs broken

pensive gooner

Fair enough. But it is about time that injury prone fuck reverts to type and spends some quality time with the ManU treatment staff.

Oh, and I still want him to break his leg. I am bitter like that.

Footie-Ninja

Rather extreme and a bit evil to wish someone such misfortune. Ultimately it’s only a sport, matey.Boo him, call him a Dutch skunk or whatever names you wish to call him, but very unsporting for you to wish him such physical harm. Drink some camomile tea, I suggest…apparently it calms you down.

Exiledgooner

I use codeine. It’s fucking awesome.

pensive gooner

Thanks for the advice, but I am, in fact, perfectly calm. I have no intention of breaking his leg myself (this being the infamous internet, I feel we all tend to speak in hyperbole at some point or another (or maybe it’s just me)), but if I am to express myself perfectly candidly, I will say this: It will annoy me a lot more to see him continue to perform consistently, injury free, for United – as he has done (to my great displeasure), knowing the part Wenger and Arsenal played in making him the player he is – and… Read more »

Exiledgooner

I consider myself a peaceful man (I have to be, whacked out on prescription medication-I teach, it happens) but I do agree with you. He’s a filthy traitor who disrespected our great club and our fans to move to the club which is the equivalent of the school bully (with pathetic fans who follow it merely to get some feeble sense of validation in their desolate lives). After years on our treatment table, I do feel he’s got a lot of bad karma coming his way. However, I’d rather we didn’t do it to him: we’re Arsenal, we’re better than… Read more »

feygooner

I think after Eduardo, Ramsey, Diaby and Sagna, we should realise how awful it is for a footballer to break a leg in a malicious tackle. We are Arsenal, not Stoke.

Parisian Weetabix

Amen to that.

Benis

On the other hand, RvP is not a Eduardo, Diaby or Ramsey. He is an utter shithead.

Ali

The better revenge would be to shove a league trophy down his throat next year.

Alex Cutter

Fucking loser. I chose to be an Arsenal fan because of the team philosophy and history. People like you are embarrassing.

Hamish617

We are the only team to beat Bayern at the Allianz this season, and we are the only team to shut them out completely anywhere too. We can do this. Let’s be on our A-game against these fuckers (most supreme of them all van fucking persie) and win the shit out of this game. Sorry for the profanity laced comment. I’m just really invested in this game. Woj-Sagna-Kos-Per-Monreal-Arteta-Ramsey-Rosicky-Ox-Cazorla-striker lineup should do nicely. (Walcott-Podolski-Gervinho…you choose because my brain hurts whenever I try to come up with a definitive answer to who should start up top without Giroud). Bring Jack and one… Read more »

Footie-Ninja

Of the 3 striking options you mention, only one of them is genuinely a proven striker, and that’s Poldi. Walcott is the 2nd option. Finally, why would we experiment with Gervinho as a striker in such a crucial game? The guy is proven to be erratic and indecisive in front of goal, so why take such a massive gamble with him when CL qualification is still far from assured at this stage? Let it go people…Gerv in a decent winger but certainly not a good-enough striker. Stick Poldi in there and he’ll give the Mancs hell on Sunday.

Hamish617

My only worry for Poldi is his fitness, he hasn’t looked 100% fit for a while, but the 3rd against Norwich maybe shows he still has his finish even if he doesn’t have all of his pace right now.

Parisian Weetabix

Only Gervinho and Walcott, of our strikers, have scored against United, City, Chelsea or Spurs. Only Gervinho has done so from a central position.

Chook

When’s the last time poldi started a game up top? The first game of tje season against sunderland? What makes you think aw will do it now in such an important game? I mean I’d like him to start but I just don’t see but happening

Andy

I feel with the way we are right now and the added pressure of the game tomorrow I think we can get a result tomorrow…how better to welcome back that lanky streak of piss back by whipping his new team off the park.

Tenacious Defence

And when we don’t have possession we need all our guys to harass the life out of them. Like Bayern against that Spanish mob the other day.

Arsene Wenger

Was very impressed with Bayern. To be honest, both clubs annoy me (Barfalona because of their disgraceful behaviour in the Cesc saga and their subsequent benching of him and Bayern because they have a vendetta against competitivity in the Bundesliga and because I really like Dortmund), but I got special pleasure from seeing Barcelona get wiped out by a team who, really, just tried very hard.

I’m pretty sure we could have beaten them in the CL when we played them, had the greying rat not got sent off.

victoriaConcordiaCrescit

To be fair to Bayern, they earned their money so have the right to throw their weight around in the transfer market, and they did give Dortmund a loan to keep them in business not so long ago

this shows what a big club bayern are they reached the final for the 3rd time in four years-we reached the final 7 years ago and the rest…..well the rest is history.

Double Canister

Santi, just run that little fucking Brazilian cheating chimp into the ground.
And as for carrack and cleverly – the two most talentless midfield duo since, since Can’t remember.

Red Nose will probably put Rooney as a man marker on Santi, that’s how negative I expect manure to play tomorrow – they will try to release wellbwck on counter attacks. The wont play the skunk, it won’t suit Fergies game plan.

Parisian Weetabix

Cleverley is talentless. Carrick is not. You don’t win the league without talent in midfield. It pains me to say it about a guy who’s played for Sp*rs and Manure in his career, but I think he is a really good footballer, and his nomination for player of the year is fully justified.

Garyneville Shagshismum

Sir Thomas Cleverley is the brightest talent since…well…since Tom Cleverley.

Double Canister

Parsisian, it’s your opinion and thatof the Boss versus me.
At least one of the 3 of us knows a shitload about football.

I’ll defer to both of you on this one;
but I have never rated carrack, he is just a tiny bit better than Parker but that is saying something. He is only selected for England because he is a red Manc and the options elsewhere didn’t exist.
Next season Jack, Ox & Rambo are going to make him and Cleverly run home to their mamas.

Voldermort

Wenger had all but admitted in that article that we could not win the premier league and that’s the reason he decided to leave. Nothing to do with money, although obviously he got a huge increase. So those that decide to abuse him or turn your back tomorrow or whatever other pathetic way you want to show your disgust at Man U becoming champions maybe should look a bit closer to home for the reasons why we can’t compete. Rvp left to win trophies, he was never going to do that with us and arsene and rvp both new it.… Read more »

Fatgooner

Spot on, Volders. Of course, you’ve received a mass of red thumbs for simply telling it as it is.

Typical of this site.

Alex Cutter

Yes to all of this.

Lec

Oh, Here we fucking go again. Im curious as to why rvp never wanted to leave during his operation table years, we despise the fucker coz as soon as he got one good season under his belt he didn’t even think to repay the faith and stay while arsene builds the squad around after seeing what he could do. The cazorla, podolski, additions would have been sufficient for us to challenge for atleast for atleast a trophy (whether F.A OR BPL) the next season but he didn’t wait around did he. Instead he set us back to replacing (not of… Read more »

Voldermort

Lec, the point is we would never have bought the 3 players we did had we not sold rvp and song. So had he stayed it would not have made a difference as we would not have strengthened.
Agree though this year the board need to show the ambition matches the fans, we supposedly have the money and have clearly not been strong enough this year. So lets see what happens
. You clearly have more faith in the board than I have. I guess we will know either way soon enough.

Iceman

Excuse me but I seem to remember us signing all of them before we sold the cunt? Podolski was tied up before the season was over and Giroud and Cazorla were brought in even before the rumours of the cunt leaving for Manure surfaced?
I m not saying the board is not to blame but lets be honest about it.

Lec

You are not serious mate, we tied up Podolski long before rvp came up with this “not signing a new deal shit”. Still wasn’t satisfied. Cazorla was an addition that was always going to be made seeing as Malaga had long been identified with a financial crisis. Giroud perhaps otherwise nah. Wenger though should stand firm this summer and say (obviously has been but board have had other ideas) he wants to keep his squad together this summer, the board have been incompetent _ YES but the genuine burning need to achieve something next season I feel will make this… Read more »

Voldermort

Are you serious? Podolski was signed before rvp left but as arsene said he was signed to replace and not to compliment rvp. He knew rvp was leaving as everybody did at that time. People really should get thier facts right before spouting off.

The grover

I’ll butt in here alittle (vold nd lec)Wenger said poldi was rvps replacement AFTER rvp left. Poldi joined us way before rvp left, (we had tied up the deal long before) so in essence after rvp now fficially signed for cunts, wenger had to declare poldi as skunks replacement otherwise it would have been a signing that skunk had insisted for, (ambition e.t.c) and If he was indeed the replacement what exactly was giroud brought in for?? Cleaning the dishes?.

Giroud was the replacement, poldi was a welcomee addition.

Fatgooner

Wake up and smell the coffee, Lec. Without serious investment we have no chance of winning anything next year. The outrageous thing is that with two billionaire owners we should be the one side which should be prepared to speculate. But the club don’t want to.

Shame.

Ali

Or is wenger just being literal? Maybe RVP did have a little boy inside of him and was waiting for a trophy to give birth.

you know, arseblog keeps saying time and again about taking 19 points from 21 available, and while that is certainly good for confidence and momentum, we will have to take our performance up a couple of notches, because lately thay haven’t been very good, even if got the points…… like the game against everton, norwich and especially fulham………. although as fans we are feeling good and confident, iam sure wenger will be worried and will be trying his best to rectify it……….

Dudelmann

Arseblog keeps saying “19 points from 21” but, correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure that we’ve only played 6 league games since Sp*rs: Swansea, Reading, West Brom, Norwich, Everton and Fulham. That’s 16 from 18, not 19 from 21

Dudelmann

COYG!!! Let’s thrash them 8-2!

SantoTomas

Maybe we try Podolski up front, and put Oxlade Chamberlain and Walcott on the wings with Cazorla in the middle and Ramsey and Arteta behind him? Same back four and same keeper.

Red Cannon

Depending on Podolski’s fitness, I’m with you 100%.

Well done Wigan. However, we are far from safe. I am confident that taking something from United will be the platform for a top 4 finish, while Russian Mob FC and Cock&Ball Co. fight it out for the other spot.

After that spud result today we should go into the game tomorrow and look to win against a team only playing for points record now, show no fear against these manc cunts and get four points clear of spuds

In addition to hurting manure, we also could have the opportunity to relegate Newcastle on the final game. That, and finishing above spurs and Chelsea, would be a ‘success’ I guess.

No! Never.
We are Arsenal and we have class.
