Tomas Rosicky returned to full first team training today having missed Saturday’s win over Norwich with a slight hamstring problem.
The Czech midfielder, who scored a brace against West Brom in his last outing, is now in contention to face Everton tomorrow night leaving Arsene Wenger weighing up whether to drop Jack Wilshere to the bench.
The England international was somewhat under par (we’re being generous) on his return to the first XI following six weeks on the sidelines and could be an option off the bench when David Moyes’ side visit the Emirates.
The Gunners don’t appear to have picked up any further injuries from the weekend’s hard fought win over the Canaries although with Per Mertesacker back from suspension the boss could reshuffle his defensive pack again by pairing the German with Laurent Koscielny rather than Thomas Vermaelen.
Should Wenger fancy further rotation the likes of Nacho Monreal, Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski are all options for a start.
mmmmm tasty strength in depth
Wilshere, Oxlade, Gibbs, Vermalene, Szczesny, Gervinho (or Walcott) on the bench. I think I’ll be needing a change of pants now.
David Moyes should be advised to carry a spare pair to the game too.
You missed arshavin! LOL
And Jenkinson..
I feel for Wenger though. When these players are all on form, they seem capable of beating the vast majority of teams. But when it all goes wrong like during this winter, there is criticism for not having bought Goetze.
Everyone must improve next season. Wenger should probably rotate more in the first half of the season. Our “superstars” should give it 100% even if it’s against Gillingham in the 3rd game of the season. Players like Ramsey/Gervinho should stop bottling it when some fans are on their back.
Why so many negative voting on above comment? I agree with him on quite a few things.
It feels damn good having the problem of trying to fit to much talent into such few positions.
That’s what she said…..
I think dropping Rosicky was a precaution for Everton. We need him more against Everton than Norwich.
I hope so man, when its Rosicky I was scared it was gona be another “3 weeks”. Do love a bit of Rosicky if only he wasn’t so injury prone, he really should think about retiring from internationals to prolong his club career. This match is essentially a 6 pointer for top 4 so I hope it pays off. Arsene tends to know what hes doing around this time, I just wish he knew for the whole season, 25 points out of 30 in the last 10 matchs is league winning material, I hope this can carry on til next… Read more »
If he played for a big European football power he might have. But the Czech team doesn’t have that kind of depth. I have a feeling it might feel like a kind of betrayal to the Czech fans.
It has its positives I guess because the last international break he used to regain match fitness, whereas if he jumped straight into a league match we would all be complaining hes off the pace like Wilshire was on Saturday. Also the Czechs don’t make the world cup so theres not much chance of him playing another major tournament, unless the Czech coach in 2016 think hes up for the euros when hes 36 :/
Miss that Czech team of 2006. Rosicky, Nedved, Koller, Poborsky, Jankulovski. Lit up Europe for a few years especially in Euro 2004. Now they just have Rosa and Cech. Did decently in EURO 2012, even though it meant we missed out on Mozart for half the season 🙁
AW: I always had a soft spot for the Czechs. I think Rosicky played a major part in that to be honest. Even before he came to Arsenal I always sort of liked him – despite only being 10. The Czech Rep were the dark horses of Euro 2004 and I was willing them to win. Tomas deserves an international trophy!
Too many British fans assume that all foreign players have the same attitude to playing for their country as so many English players and fans seem to have. I can’t imagine any Czech player willingly abandoning his National team while he still has something to give. Very few people took Arshavin seriously when he reacted to Russia’s failures by becoming withdrawn and losing some of his love for football, but then the English don’t really do “patriotism” as they are mostly too busy doing “self”. It’s why we’re so poor in International Tournaments. Most of our players don’t really give… Read more »
Fuck.
You were expecting yourself to be picked for the game had he not been back,Andrei?
Time to drown my sorrows in Big Macs
…Just as the Hot Sperms are falling apart
For me he has to come back into that first XI, and with the games in such close proximity it mightn’t be too harmful to shuffle around the team. Podolski definitely warrants a start anyway after his cameo, could see he was chomping for some game time. Signs of a good squad that!
This would be tatsty tomorrow
fab
sagna per kos monreal
arteta ramsey
rosicky (cam) cazorla
Podolski Giroud
subs: rosicky out for the ox(70min) + maybe som more
<3 that line up. BUT, maybe Jenkinson for Sagna??
I’d go with this team on the whole, but I wonder if Cazorla needs a rest, even if just by starting from the bench for a cameo late on. I’d actually put Gervinho in place of Cazorla for the first 70 minutes as I think that Gervinho’s recent good form may be down to having the energetic-with-purpose Rosicky in the team with him.
Don’t bother replying to this by slagging off Gervinho. Try looking at it liema manager rather than like a fan. Post your own team and tell us why you think your choice would do the job tonight.
“like a manager”
yeah, i actually prefer jenko over sagna most of the time, but i feel like hes been rediscovering some form, but i hope atleast wenger rotates them much more!
I love Wilshere but he looked sluggish on Saturday and a straight swap with Rosicky would be a good change. Let Wilshere run riot in the 70+ minutes.
Let’s not flap around, Wilshere was poor. I think he (and we) probably “needed” a performance like that to keep things in perspective. Can’t blow people away every match
Wow resounding voice of reason if I’ve ever heard one. Not slagging Wilshere, he’ll be huge. But perspective goes a long way.
Nacho Man Randy Savage has to start tomorrow, Gibbs was very poor against Norwich and we need the Spaniards solidity at the back more than we need Gibbs bombing forward all the time.
Agreed especially with the form of that freak Meireles.
Kevin Mirallas. Raul Meireles. Surprisingly, not the same person.
It was Mirallas that tried to kill Miyaichi right?
I like Everton but that tackle was beyond cunty.
Hopefully Nacho will RE-FRY HIS BEANS tomorrow (eh? eh?! mexican food??!! testicles?!?! eh?!?!?!)
Sorry all, one day these poor excuses for puns will run out.
Unsurprisingly,both are Cunts.
Didn’t think Gibbs was particularly poor, but I agree start Nacho. He’s one of my favourite signings of late, there’s something about him on and off the pitch that makes me really like him.
It’s his six-pack, isn’t it?
Fab
Gibbs Per Kos Sagna
Arteta Ramsey
Santi
Poldi Giroud Theo
Strongest 11
Nuh-uh!
Fab
Sagna Mert Kos Monreal
Arteta Cazorla Ramsey
Walcott Giroud Poldi
Need Monreal’s higher defensive discipline against Everton. I’d like to see Rosicky and Ox get run-ins, though I love that Wenger took off weak links against Norwich early, so of course that would be the priority subs if any is noticeable.
Bold playing Gibbs at right-back, Sagna left-back. Or is that Fabianski upfront with Poldi, Giroud and Theo triple-teaming in goal? It’s not a setup Everton would be expecting, I’ll give you that.
Lol that indeed a bold move by wenger
Okey then, here I go:
Fab
Jenkinson Mertesacker Kos Monreal
Arteta Cazorla Rosicky
Gnabry Podolski Chamberlan
The Gnabry choice is a bit mischevious, but I do think we need a purchase for that position until he gets ready.
Poldi+Gibbs will work although at this time Santi+Nacho looks better because it lets us bring Rosicky at CAM

Spare a thought for me guys.
I heard Podolski might be starting. You’re in trouble.
If you don’t get over that Everton goal line at least five times tonight I’ll be showing you how good I am with a cheese knife.
Rosicky brings that extra pace and energy. We had none of it in the first half. We need him.
Ramsey has a lot of energy, but he doesn’t yet have Rosicky’s knack for directing it where it’s most useful. Ramsey needs to learn everything he can from Rosicky while he’s got the chance. In particular, he needs to find out why Rosicky never has people walk up behind him and take the ball away from him while he is deciding on his next move. That is the biggest flaw in Ramsey’s game at the moment. He loses possession to people who come at him quietly from behind when he slows down to decide what to do with the ball.… Read more »
I would say this lineup –
Fabianski
Sagna-Mert-Kos-Monreal
——Arteta-Ramsey
Walcott-Rosicky-Cazorla
——-Podolski
Also, I would love if Rosicky shifts to the right, allowing Walcott to come in. Then, we have two lethal finishers in Poldi and Theo as central strikers, and Cazorla, Rosicky, little outwide who are well capable of picking a pass/crossing.
I say let just pick the best 11 that are available , I know various people have different ideas all for good reason. But the boss must know who is up for it and who may have a slight niggle, he as a squad of about 16 to choose from so pick the ones that are fit as I believe this will be a tough game, my choice would be
Fab in goal , Sagna/Mert/Cos/Nacho back four,
Mid field Rosiky ( if fit ) + Arteta / Santi + Podolski
with Theo and Giroud up front.
Subs Jack/TV5/Jenkinson/The Ox/Shez
Where’s Ramsey, our MOTM against Norwich?
Interesting to see these strongest 11’s all have no Wilshere in them. I like what you’re thinking but I would have him in there all day everyday.
Typical reactionary Opinion of Arsenal supporters. One game ago Gervinho was a must start. Now, after one bad game, Wilshere, doesn’t make first 11. You have to laugh.
Why laugh?
He has to win his place in the first 11. Wenger gave him trust right aways. He played poorly. Others performed better, they are in better form as of current match, surely they deserve start ahead of him now? Simple
Might have been Wengers fault for starting him when not fully fit or something, we dont really know, do we.
He will get back into the team in no time. No worries…
Truth, no player should be a guaranteed start at the Arsenal and I’m a firm believer in starting our best 11 based on current form, and not in terms of reputation or seniority. Sometimes players need some flexibility and game time to get form back, and I think Wenger does a good job of balancing that on the whole. If Jack doesn’t start tonight, he will most likely feature at some point depending on how the game goes.
I did not include Jack because although he played 60 mins on Saturday I think he needs a couple of games off the bench before he is ready for the final 5 games
So would Wenger, but as we saw today Wenger is slowly learning that he can’t have Wilshire in there all day every day. Wislshire has had six weeks out and he was poor because he came back too soon and wasn’t ready. That is why people are leaving hi off their lists. He will hopefully be good for the next match but tonight is too much too soon on top of his premature full reintroduction on Saturday.
Get little mozart in there. No questions about it. With him and ramsey in the centre there is sucj good energy in midfield for the high pressing game
Fab
bac per verm mony
teo miko tomas rambo santi
podi
wenger told to z media dat podi will b up front for z game
I would go for fab, sagna, per, kos, gibbs. With theo, rambo, rosicky, arteta, carzola, with the handsome french man up front 🙂
Is it just me or do we also have a handsome Welshman on our hands?
Yes, but Wenger probably made his comments using a comprehensible medium of conversation.
He absolutely has to start, no discussion (well there might be but still…..) Jack Wilshere you’ll have to make way because you know you were not good at all on Saturday and like we all know jack is not the team. The team is the team!
Fabianski
Jenkinson Mertersacker Koscielny Monreal
Arteta Ramsey
Rosicky
Cazorla Podolski
Giroud
Energy, strength, creativity.
actually I like this…sagna has been sucky lately!
Our problem against Norwich was lack of pace. For that reason, I would start Walcott. He works well with Giroud because Giroud lacks pace, so simply holds the ball and lets Theo make the runs. We cause more problems with pacey players. That’s why we persist with Gervinho especially when Theo’s out.
So I say…
Fit GK
Sagna, Mert, Koscielny, Gibbs
Ramsey, Arteta, Rosicky
Theo, Giroud, Cazorla
The situation with Koscielnly/vermaelen/Mertesacker must be really mind boggling for Arsene. I wouldn’t want to be him right now it’s a selection solution but come on if any of those 3 are dropped they might feel alil bit hard done.
Goddamn!
I would stick with Mertescielny. Vermaelen had a strong game in terms of challenges and headers, but they were often tackles that, had his positional sense and awareness matched his willingness, he wouldn’t have had to make. He plays a style of defending that clever opponents can anticipate and exploit.
Yes, I call this ‘permanent last ditch defending.’
Hopefully Saturdays game reminded the team of what could happen if you don’t work hard, press the opposition with purpose and move the ball quickly. Can I just say I’m astounded at just how poor and biased punditry has become in this country. I listened (stupidly) to that pair of condescending prize twats Keys and Gray on Talkshite earlier. They were of the opinion that the Lino shouldn’t be making a decision for Girouds pen, didnt matter if he was right or not, much as MOTD pundits said. I have no problem if they don’t think it was a pen,… Read more »
My opinion is that the ref thought it may have been a pen and when the lino flagged for it his thoughts were confirmed. So he gave it. If the ref didn’t think it was a pen then he would have gone across to find out what the lino had seen before giving the pen or not but he saw the flag and signalled without the consultation.
Yeah the ref and the linesman were talking to each other on their radio thingies, clearly talking about it, and in the end the ref agreed. I mean what’s so hard to comprehend about this process, that’s the whole point of having multiple officials for a match, so decisions don’t get missed.
Two fingers? I’m thinking grant holts right leg. Pure British horse flesh. They’ll teach em
Enjoy it while it lasts boys, a genuine full squad. No injuries, unbelievable.
Clearly I am not including Diaby, because unfortunately and sadly, I think his arsenal career is over. A miserable truth.
On a more positive/ optimistic note, here we come second spot, City have a few tricky games coming up. A loss here and there leaves us only a whisker away. I believe once again, Come on you red arses!
let’s have tommy back in the starting line up. too much to expect wilshere to be at his best after that lay-off – he needs to be worked back into the team over a few weeks. maybe it’s time to give poldi a start up front also. giroud has done great but would like to see poldi get a run in the middle as he is probably the best natural finisher in the squad…
btw – i thought chavski looked like a very jaded team for most of the game yesterday. have never seen them bullied physically like that before. i expect they and spurs are both going to drop a few points between now and the end of the season. hopefully we can get 6 more points in the bag this week and put them under serious pressure…
For my money: Fabianski, Sagna, Mertesacker, Kosicelny, Monreal, Arteta, Ramsey, Rosicky, Podloski, Cazorla, Giroud Subs: Szczeny, Gibbs, Jenkinson, Vermaelen, Wilshere, Walcott, Ox (possibly swapping Coquelin for a full-back) That’s is a tasty-ass line-up, really wanna see that front three with Rosicky behind em, should be sweet. I would argue maybe starting Jenks too, but with crazy Baines running at him maybe not. On a side note, anyone else feel a bit sorry for Coquelin? I really rate him as a midfielder, and he’s barely got any premier league shouts this season. Arteta is sexily solid, but his passing in recent… Read more »
Ah, i forgot Gervinho in those subs, where could he go in…
AFCON 2016?
guess that’s the beauty of depth
Agreed on the lineup.
I would not doubt Jenkinson’s ability against Baines though, he kept Robben and Mueller (who have superior offensive quality) quiet in the Bayern match, so he is up for the fight. He may also be fresher than Sagna, so that is always a plus.
Also, Arteta has been a bit bland recently, but I suppose that’s his job; set up the transition from defence to attack and since we haven’t had pacy wingers playing very much recently, he hasn’t been able to give very incisive passes.
Good point about Jenks, maybe bring him in then.
True about Arteta too, as much as I hope Coquelin isn’t disenfranchised by his lack of play time, I do love the defensive shield of Arteta and Ramsey. And I suppose as long as Rosicky’s in the team, we’re not gonna need ambitious throughballs from Arteta, cos Rosicky’s got just about every one in his locker.
Start Rosicky in the number 10 position. Start Cazorla on the right, give him freedom to roam. Podolski to start central (HFB needs a breather) and Gervinho on the left (he doesn’t deserve to be dropped after one not-so-good game). If not Gerv, then start the Ox.
Thank god we are in a good run. But have you all noticed. Every season we have a run of games were we are just amazing equals the champion stuff. But we also have small relegation form here and there. Its very weird. But one thing sure is Arsene is good at creating momentum. Invincibles were the pinnacle of it.
I think the next game will make or break our season. This result will be the one we look back on, similar to what we’re know saying about the game in Munich. If we get the 3 points tomorrow, we would literally have to implode (similar to the spuds) to finish outside the top 4, which i don’t think this squad and it’s newly found confidence, is capable of doing. In terms of who to play? Who knows? i don’t think i’ve ever seen such a fit squad- not in the last three seasons anyway. They all seem capable of… Read more »
Jamie?
Yessssssssss…rosickyyyyy. We need his driving forward at the defense
Hopefully the general equality of form through the 1st team means AW focuses on who is best equipped to spank the scientists/toffees/southalls soothers. Ie. Not gervinho. Hopefully Saturday showed the odd good performance against teams like reading no longer masks the truth. That being he’s shit (better than me but that ain’t hard).
Loving our squad right now. Wanting 4th, not given up on 3rd. If we win tomorrow and chelski drop.any sort of points and we are in charge!
COYFG! (SPOT THE SWEAR WORD)
I am going for slightly attacking line up and unfortunately arteta has to drop only because every one else is in hot form.
Scz (fab is doubtful)
Jenikinson Mert Kos Gibbs
Ramsey Rosicky Cazrola
Walcott Giroud Podolski
I feel that the Arteta / Ramsey wall is the key to this team at the moment.

ahh little tiny send buttons…dammit as i was typing, in normal circumstances i’d expect Everton to come down to the Ems and do the same as Norwich/Sunderland etc. but they are a bit stronger than most teams. However – they really have to go for the win so they will open up a bit. 5pu2s should have torn them apart last week when Everton tried this tactic. I can see ANY combination of our front 6 mullering them, and then bringing on more pace at 60 minutes (hey its the new 70!). All we have to to up with is… Read more »
[…] Tomas Rosicky is also fit again, and there’s a good case to be made for him coming back into the side in place of Jack Wilshere who looked off the pace on Saturday. Arsene Wenger admitted it was a little bit of a risk bringing him back against Norwich but there isn’t a manager out there who, at this stage of the season, doesn’t take a risk or two with players he really needs. What it showed us though is that he might be better off using his squad until Jack is a bit sharper. […]

if rosicky is properly fit and up to speed id def start him ahead of wilshere due to the way he makes the team play and the positive passing, his abilities arnt really the kind that make for an impact sub whereas wilshere can be brought on around the 60 min mark
