Kieran Gibbs has praised the character of his teammates for their showing last night against Wigan and over the final part of this season.
The left-back admitted that Arsenal’s chance of a top four finish looked slim earlier in the year – “In January people we were saying we were not supposed to be” – but paid tribute to the way the team have ground out the results they’ve needed in recent weeks.
“The way the squad has stuck together this season and never given up is credit to them,” he told Arsenal Player, “and I believe we deserve nothing more than to be where we want to be.
“It is a test we have passed this season and that is credit to the players because it is not easy, especially for those who have come in. It must have been a shock to their systems but they have shown what characters they are.”
The England international also lauded the team’s response to going in, somewhat unjustly, level at half-time last night.
“I thought the performance was, in spells, really good. We started well and then they got a foothold in the game unexpectedly, but we showed true character and won the game convincingly in the end.
“We had to be patient. When we came in at half time we had to stay focused and we still had 45 minutes to win the game. We took our chances and picked the right moments to get them on the counter-attack.”
The second half goals killed off Wigan, as well as their spell in the Premier League, and sets up an end of season encounter with Newcastle at the Wonga National Park.
He’s grown into a really good left back this season. I do miss his an Poldi’s link up play though, like we saw earlier in the season.
I would like this arsenal to play newcastle keeper – sagna mert koss gibbs – ramsey wilshere -cazorla – walcott giroud podolski.
Unfortunately with Arteta looking like he may miss out, that does look like the side we most probably will put out. The lego haired one will be missed. He anchors our midfield like no one else. Still, Ramsey and Jack should get the job done between the two of them.

Good choice to start gibbo. Mcmanaman was always gonna be a threat with his speed and skill thus needed someone who could read those wigan passes and intercept them. For the Mcmanaman was on the pitch i’d say gibbo did well to nullify his threat. (keep in mind how clichy was skinned time after time 2 days earlier)
Gibbs is also technically better than monreal I think; anyway im safe with either of them starting. Isn’t that great?

Great to have the left back spot sorted out gibbs is class but cant play every week monreal is a good player to rotate with gibbs and I think he will get better next year it does take time to get use to english football we see last year how important it is to have a proper left and right back were not far off having a team that can win things 2/3 good players

I wish Gibbs was more consistent, he keeps getting injuries and I hope he avoids them next season, he’s improved so much and I like the competition between him and Monreal. Wenger needs to put a similar system in all positions at the club, no one has a guaranteed first team spot not even Wilshere. Champs League next season with a WIN at Newcastle and I can see at least 2 or 3 solid players joining us, offloading TGSTEL Bendtner, Chamattack, Park, Arshavin, Squallaci, Djourou. Most of all keeps his head down. He might not know how high we hold him but trust me it’s right up there with the jacks and santis. Iam a huge fan of his, wins us many corners a fulcrum in our attacks as well as defends. First choice fi me!

I would Gibbs could play CM and move Monreal to LB if Jack can’t start. I remember him playing well for the Eng U-21s and Arsenal youth teams. Think le coq’s head is elsewhere so Wenger may not be able to trust him. Def think Gibbs would do better than Vermaelen there.
Gibbs is so money, he’s understated and just gets the job done. Him and Ramsey are amongst my favorite players because they really don’t seem to play games with the media and fans, they put their heads down and get on with it. Its no coincidence that I read that they are best friends, then.
