As it’s a quiet day (although we’re standing by for explosive, sensational news any minute) I just wanted to touch on a couple of site issues.
Comments
In recent times the amount of comments we’ve been receiving has increased, and that’s great. The more the merrier, we say. However, we would urge people to read the comment policy as a matter of course, with a couple of bits highlighted here:
1 – Please use real English at all times. Any use of text speak (u not you, r not are, the number 8 in place of letters in any word etc) will see your comment deleted. It doesn’t take much to use real English, and if English isn’t your first language, give it your best shot.
Once it’s not text speak, we can live with that.
2 – Differences of opinion are natural. This is football. There will always be discussion and debate, but as we’re all Arsenal fans here (mostly), keep it civil.
It’s entirely possible to disagree with someone’s point of view and still have a sensible, mannerly chat about things. Breaches of this rule, name calling, personal attacks etc, will see your comment deleted. Further incidents and we’ll get our great big banning stick out.
You don’t have to agree with the person you’re talking, but please respect their right to hold their opinion.
Wibiya
The Wibiya bar underneath each article is to try and give people related content and links to articles they may have missed.
I know some people find it a bit obtrusive, so if you click on the bottom right of the bar, you’ll see an option to ‘close’ if that’s what you’d like to do.
Thanks
Finally, just a word of thanks. We’re just two years old here and growing all the time. Thanks to all of you for reading, commenting and being part of the community.
Remember, you can follow Arseblog News on Twitter or like the Arseblog Facebook page which contains links to all our stories.

Did you see an alert that Arseblog News had published something new on Facebook and click on it immediately and scroll down and realize it had just been published and that nobody had commented yet and then got excited because you could have the first comment and then panicked (why does “panicked” have a “k” in it..?) because you couldn’t think of an appropriately witty and amusing first comment to write so you just wrote the first thing that came into your head even though it was sort of random? Yeah. I’ve been there. P.S. Blogs, you are the best… Read more »
Paniced (pronounced “pan-eyysd”!!) or panicced ( pronounced “pan – i- ched”!!!)? I’ll, stick with panicked, I think.
Sorry, I’m a grammar & language troll!
Heh. I choose to hear paniced as “pan-iced” – the opposite to pan-fried, perhaps? #tangent
I’ve got to say, of all the Arsenal blogs I’ve visited, not only are you the most intelligible and open to the opinion of others, but many of the comments are as well. And I’ve got to say it’s just great to have something to read like this every day. I can come here to read an in depth analysis of Arsenal’s current events or read something hilarious like yesterday’s blog. You don’t resort to making a story out of nothing just to attract readers and I appreciate that. Not to mention the well placed Archer jokes/pictures get me every… Read more »
It’s one of those blogs where once you’ve read the actual blog, the comments are a pleasure to read as well. They also help pad out a lunch break..
yess!~!! finally someone who understands me ♥
I’m sure I speak for many around these parts when I say thanks for all the hard work. It can’t be easy to maintain a site like this and keep things civil so hopefully Gooners of all persuasions can do their bit to help. It’ll be to the benefit of everyone which is why I can never understand people who behave in a way which ultimately damages them. When I was in college I had a friend who was an intolerable smart ass, always making snippy comments in lectures and disrupting the professor. At first it was kind of funny… Read more »
Nice rambling there Pete. Just seconding everything you said (the thanks to Blogs for the great work on the site bit). Keep it up Blogsy, the 1st site I visit everyday!
Is “1st” instead of “first” allowed, as in the above comment, especially as it’s in praise of Arseblog? 🙂
‘Rambling’ you say? Hmmm.
Fuck! I thought he was going to come back to college the next day armed with a SWORD!
so thats who that crazy taxi driver was the other night …. he kept on complaining about how pete and the ‘professor’ had ruined his life and turned him into a spurs fan
Pete I’m becoming a fan…..
What the f**k does this have to do with anything? Annual transfer window sickness?
Thanks Arseblog News. Reliable. (funny too) 🙂
LANS……
Might be lost on some so I will interpret for you…northern Irish gooner 🙂
Cool story bro…..
According to blog’s rule number one, you cant even use “bro” in your comments.
Bit harsh innit.
That’s not txt spk (text speak) though, is it? Bro is a perfectly acceptable abbreviation of brother, and is common in informal speech.
If one were to interpret any shortening of words as an infringement of Rule One (long may it be praised) then the ‘innit’ in your comment would also break the rule.
In regards to pete ^^
Cheers blogs, keep up the good work, and let’s hope for some signings!
I hope you own your very own wishing well as I think we will need your help.
I realize it may be region and browsing history specific but I have to ask: Blogs I see lingerie ads on the site. Have you finally found a worthy sponsor?
As a side, the models in these ads are top top quality.
Ads are usually based on your browsing history 😉
I have said too much
You filthy devil
This is the funniest exchange I’ve read in a while.
My ads are a smokers app from the Apple App store, Nokia Lumia from Vodaphone and Tommy Hilfiger. I would prefer yours.
I Laughed Out Loud at my desk in the middle of the office reading this. haha thanks guys my day sucked until now.
Think yourself lucky Emannuel. I keep getting ads to date older women. That’ll teach me to use the the word ‘menopause’ in a Google search…
Any reason why you were using the word ‘menopause’ in Google search?!?!
It’s a long but perfectly innocent story. Honest.
“EdthenolongerRed” perhaps?
Please mr arseblog just make up a signing so i can get excited for a few moments or so this is the only site that i believe thanks keep up the good work
Just a thought on the comments system: Given any thought to having a similar system that Reddit employs, whereby the most valued comment is voted up to the top, and comments that don’t contribute much are voted down? I think it’s already becoming a great forum here, this type of system would actually probably moderate itself.
I’m not sure if such a thing is possible, plus I kinda find it hard to follow. I think we’ll just stick with chronological and allow people to continue to vote on comments.
One thing that seems to be a problem is the nesting of comments and everyone wanting to get their comment as close to the top as possible (I’ve done it, too), which means you get a massive clog of unrelated responses at the top. One great solution I’ve seen is the Guardian’s (I’m sure other sites use it, too), where they show only the first three or four (?) responses to a comment, and then hide the rest with the option to click to see more. I’ve found that this keeps the responses more or less as ACTUAL responses to… Read more »
Worth looking into, will see if there’s any kind of plug-in that does that.
I’m against this. I see the logic, but the core difference is that Guardian articles have an order of magnitude more reasponses, and they may contain a good number of valuable opinions.
Arsenal fan banter isn’t the same level of ‘required reading’, and there’s a load less of it. If you’re minded to read through the comments section of articles containing one or (currently!) less worthy facts, you’re probably not too busy!
It’s true that some Guardian football reports get upwards of 300-500 comments, but the majority are under this figure, and in any case, those numbers are inflated because they get fans of all teams commenting. There’s very little ‘required reading’ in those comments. Many are from trolls. Besides, I’ve seen Arseblog News articles get 300+ comments (especially on days when we lose a game!). What I’ve noticed since the Guardian switched formats is that the comments are of a better quality, and people in the embedded responses are actually talking to each other instead of over top of each other.… Read more »
I love reddit but at least there the comment chain isn’t necessarily ‘top’ – you can sort by old, new, best, top, and something else – all of which help keep often massively lengthy uberconversations in some king of manageable/readable state. I just don’t see it’s required here, and unless it was implemented with exactly the same functionality it’d potentially make it worse. Also, comments on a single small topic amongst very like-minded people lend themselves to a linear back&forth pub debate style which this does fine. Reddit needs that style for open questions to a massively globally diverse readership.… Read more »
I beg to differ. As we’ve seen recently, even those who are drawn together by a likeminded support of one club can support wildly differing opinions…and vehemently, as well.
Showing only the first four or five replies and hiding the rest keeps things linear, as you suggest, but allows discrete conversations to develop as well.
I like the pub analogy; only, in my view, the Guardian model allows you to roam and join different tables, depending on whether you like the conversation or not.
I do know where you’re coming from, but I’m also quite opposed to making people click more than they need to.
But clicking is the only exercise I get these days. You’re making me soft, man. Soft.
I don’t mind the wibiya, but I feel it hates me. Why else would it taunt me everyday with “Gonzalo now close to Arsenal”.
Yes, I’m not sure how to fix that. Sorry. At this point it’s like a shit tattoo. On your face.
Agreed. I had to stare at Bendtner’s massive face (in tiny form) for days! Plus I’m not keen on it because it makes it look more obvious that I’m not reading anything to do with work at work.
While I understand that you want to show people more articles and have them read more stuff on the site, I do find that thing annoying and I close it. But I close it every time I come to the site, and I have to do it every time, which is also annoying. And I never click on anything in that bar before I close it. Just letting you know that, whatever backend info you might be getting about increased clicks and site stickiness, some people would prefer not to have to mouse over to a tiny little menu in… Read more »
Point taken. Thanks.
I’ll say what I want, I’ll say what I waaaaaant. ArseBlog comments, I’ll say what I waaant!
I second all the above – massively appreciate everything you do for Arsenal fans. Regards the comments, they work brilliantly on the website, but they misbehave a bit for me on the Android app. For example I can’t thumb up or down, the icons are just little question marks (maybe because my ad-blocker blocks the url the images are stored on??). Also they are not threaded, just inline. As an example of how I think it should work, have a look at Lady Arse’s app (also by Lineten). They use the Disquss comment system which works superbly on Android and… Read more »
Cheers, it’d be interesting to see if the ad-block plays a part, if you could check that out.
I’ve looked at Disquss but really, really don’t like it. Sorry.
anything but diquss. its terrible.
Fair enough on Disquss.. each to their own. I quite like it.
Ironically, the thumbs icons are working today! However the avatars next to peoples name’s aren’t.
Have reset my hosts file to completely empty and now both the avatars and the thumbs show up.
What’s the url they’re hosted on? My ad blocker is AdFree Android, by BigTinCan.com. Not sure where their lists from, will try and find out.
God, my typing is shit today. Sorry ’bout that.
can you not add this site to the adblocker white list?
all images hosted here news.arseblog.com, arseblog.com and I think the avatars would be served from gravatar.com
The other thing to bear in mind is that this free service, which comes to at no cost, and is entirely free, is supported by ads 😉
I’ll say no more.
You’re doing an amazing job and this is definitely the best Arsenal blog out there for me. Keep up the good work.
(your doing an amazing job and this is defin8ly the best arsenal blog out there for me. keep up the good work xxx)
Thank you for starting Arseblog News! trawling the dregs of newsnow, so I don’t have to. You have no idea how happy that makes me!
Blogs, big hand for all the hard work the site/app have taken my arsenal support to a whole new level…one issue I can’t find the “Fuck off” button your referenced in relation to the ad bar??
http://i.imgur.com/ALc19jP.jpg
I am still none the wiser as to where or what the Wibiya’s are.
They sound like room dividers.
*wanders off*
I’m a relative newcomer to the blog, a sincere thanks for the insight you provide.
Somehow, at 30 yrs old, I’ve become a rabid Gooner is less than two years time. Thank you. (I think?)
Ok so… here’s the deal.
Most of the players that we want will not sign for us until we have qualified for the group stages of the CL.
We don’t want players who wouldn’t expect to be playing champions league.
We are more attractive than a uefa cup team like tottenham but non qualification would wipe away that advantage.
So its gonna be late unless we get a convincing lead in the first leg of the knockout.
So calm the feck down everybody…
Cheers Blogs!
Thank you for doing such a terrific work.
I must say that I really like this ability you have to put some perspective right in the middle of a crowd of howling wolfes – especially when it comes to spending money. The greatness of a Club will never come from the amount of money it spends – on the contrary.
The great thing about arseblog and the arseblog news sites is that we don’t have to look anywhere else for genuine Arsenal news. If its not reported on Arseblog then it didnt happen. Well done all concerned with running this blog.
You really are gr8. ( sorry, just my little joke
Can you also include a rule about the correct use of the possessive and non possessive for as well please??
Its on my list, don’t worry
Blogs, you almost always get thumbed down once for your comments. Is that one specific hater, a bunch of them parsimoniously sharing the load, or do you thumb yourself down to demonstrate how the site encourages diverse view points?
heh, it’s not me. Thumbers gonna thumb, and all that.
Can’t believe it’s been two years. How did we cope before. Thanks.
Completely agree re non-text speak. Therein lies madness. Enforce this mercilessly.
You did well to reassure non-native English speaker contributors. I love hearing from our US, Nigerian, Japanese and, more recently, our Indonesian buddies. Makes me feel cosmopolitan and connected beyond these 4 soft walls and locked door.
I thought we were going to have an option to close the bar at the bottom of the page FOR EVER.
It’s a little annoying to have to do it everytime.
Apart from this : thanks for all the hard work.
It should be a permanent close.
Just went to the Wellington story. The bar still pops up.
Also: ARE YOU GOING TO BRING INTERNET JOE BACK ? Please please please ?
Hmm, will look into this further.
Internet Joe is dead, baby.
The bar pops up every time I click on an article, even after closing it on a previous article. Do you have a way of counting how many people click on the links that appear at the bottom? Honestly (and of course I may be way off), I can’t imagine anyone uses those links very often.
Ok, will look into it further.
Arsenal are doing a good job getting off the unwanted players. But tell me, are we going to prosecute an entire season with 18 established first team players and a sprinkling of youth green horns? I am becoming worried even though I had said I would wait till September.
Haha TomC that made me chuckle.
Thanx for a very good blog, my favorit one….
But whats the problem with text speak?
It rot’s the brain
I hate it.
I don’t bloody understand it.
It’s like listing to a drunk and trying to make sence from madness.
Blogs, if we are taking feedback on the comments section, would it be possible to change the green tick to a red tick, or cross, if you have thumbed down a comment.
It momentarily confuses me sometimes when I see the green tick next to something I have disagreed with !!!!
😀
I thumbed down this comment just to check
Thumbed you down just to see what you were talking about… wish I could now give you a thumbs up….
or… take it as a compliment that I read your comment and then executed the thumbs down to see what you were talking about..
Either way – the green checkmark doesn’t bother me too much
same here, my thumbs down was actually a neutral to test it, and you’re right … so count my neutral as a thumbs up
Thanks for your thumbs-down, chaps, all in the name of research !
Okay, it’s not a major issue but I just thought I’d ask !
What green tick?
The green tick shows when you have thumbed things up or down.
It just wakes my OCD tic a little, that’s all. My logic suggests that a thumb down would show up as a red check or cross.
Still, it is not a massive deal, not by any means. Certainly not in comparison to all the good stuff on the sites. Keep up the good work and all that !
😀
Oh, I see.
I’d love to do something about that but, you know, life.
good point. although this is now a heavily disliked comment that all the haters agree with!
Actually blogs can we remove any elements of red or green from the site. I’m a passionate campaigner for ‘red/green Colour Blindness awareness’, you don’t want to throw yourself open to claims of discrimination. (Actually I really did get a written apology from Cadburys when I made a passing comment that I couldn’t see the difference between available and non available time slots on the Cadbury World website, they said they would change it, I’m going to check if they did now. I think they thought I might sue them).
Just checked, those bastards lied to me.
Thanks!
Arseblog. Its fuckin’ excellent.
Started visiting this site at approximately the same time Arseblog News started and all I would say is that its two years well spent. Great blogs and the most authentic source of all news Arsenal. Keep up the good work Blogs!
Love the new ad you have put on the bottem of the screen. Just makes the viewing space smaller but hey we all need to make a living I guess.
P.s. still think its kinda cheesie on your behalf
Top, top addition to the blog. Thanks for the regular (and occasional infographic) news. It’s great coming here, it’s my one-stop for all things Arsenal. Well, here and 7amkickoff which I lately have begun to read (thanks to this site).
Fully agree with your requests and more power to your elbow (no self abuse though)….I’m a remote gooner living in France so your blog(isn’t this text speak?) is a lifeline of information…if only you were not having to fill so much space as we wait for IG, AW and the invisible Yank to actually get their arse in gear(geddit?)….looks like another aggravating August as we wait for nothing to happen again…can the board be “done” for raising false expectations?Look forward to your next blog covering the purchase of a 400 year old vampire, Shrek, and the great Fellator(whatever happened to… Read more »
Just like the good ship Arsenal itself this site is really classy. I’m hoping neither ever become racist and bitey and that new additions are always top topety top top quality.
Ahh, now we just need a weekly article explaining punctuation.

Cheers blogs!
whew, glad I didn’t go through with that bet that I would get an arseblog logo tattooed on my left ass cheek if we didn’t sign higuain, and a Gareth bale photo realism on my right cheek. the arseblog tat I probably could explain. but I could never explain a chimp on my back side to my daughter, unless it was curious George, to promote reading.
Blog, am in love with you sorry mrs blogs.I can’t go a day without reading you.My day isn’t complete without you reading you. Lol but seriously I don’t even go on the official Arsenal site just nice to hear another gunner complaining/cheer on the forefront. Keep it up

Holy crap that’s scary man.
You need some woman loving dude 😉
Mr. Blogs.
What?
I only come here for the abuse.
An aussie man named Dias…
took me ages to work it out. I live this site.
I love it as well….
Excellent blog & news. My day wouldn’t be the same without arseblog. Cheers!
Just my thanks to blogs.. Since coming across this site my love for Arsenal has grown exponentially. Being able to read articles from a top class Arsenal blogger and being able to interact with fellow gooners world wide. Much respect and appreciation
Hi blogs, great work. Just wondering, if there was general interest, whether it would be possible to make the comments visible on the iPhone app. Besides that perfect. Cheers!
Great work Blogs, top top quality, by far the best Arsenal blog, so much so that It’s the only one I go on now….
Gr8 work blogs!. *slaps self.
Excellent. Now please fix the inability to respond to a post in mobile theme. It’s annoying the living shit out of me.
agreed. yep so annoying. i see some b/s and its like i wanna tell that guy how much shit he/she is writing but i remember i cant coz i dont have the reply button. and the ‘angry’ feeling that i had goes away so i dint even reply.
Yes, we’re working on it. Well, the people who make the mobile theme are. They have to add that functionality.
Ok maybe I missed this in another post, but the news site ridiculously crashes my safari internet session on my ipad every single time. I think I know the answer coming….get the latest version of ipad, but hey not sure if anyone else has the issue. The app doesnt crash but I cant get my entertainment re the colorful comments when I use the app….much less post a comment. So I have to basically use the iphone when comments are involved in either capacity. Also, have we f—ing signed anybody yet??? I mean Arsene seriously pull your head from your… Read more »
A few people have mentioned this but I haven’t been able to replicate it. Is it the latest version of iOs and all that?
I have the same problem. I have an iPad 3 on 5.1.1
I tried safari, Chrome (which I have updated just for your website) but the latest version of arseblog news crashes the browsers every single time. You can get on the homepage, but clicking on any story crashes the whole thing.
I would really like this to be fixed.
Blogs, why is it not possible to reply to individual comments on the ipod etc? Just asking…
It’s a limitation of the mobile theme, sorry, but they’re promising a fix is coming soon. Will update when I can.
I think F##k and Cu#t should be banned. We can all do better than that.
Ugh. I think censorship should be banned. ‘Fuck’ is one of the most diverse words in the language, and ‘cunt’ can be used effectively too. Try describing John Terry to somebody without it.
You don’t get to decide.
