Arsene Wenger says he won’t be dipping his quill in any authorial ink in the near future but hinted he may be tempted to write an autobiography at some point in the future.
Quizzed by the press about Sir Alex Ferguson’s latest tome the Frenchman, who for the most part is portrayed with fondness, revealed he hadn’t yet found time to read the book but insisted that he had no problem with the Scot recording his legacy for posterity.
“No,” replied the boss this morning when asked if he’d be writing a book.
“Well, I say no at the moment – maybe one day I will be inspired to do that, but at the moment I do not. I do not say never, but at the moment I do not have that need at all.
“The past is history and history has to be written,” he continued.
“In France we say it is not only important to make history, but also to write the history. It is good. It is a legacy of his career. I think that is important, especially in England where he was a manager at Manchester United for 27 years
“It is huge what he has achieved, but it is difficult for me to answer anything on the book because I have not read it.”
Wenger has repeatedly teased the press about the prospect of a book often in retaliation to speculation about his future and other behind closed doors matters.
“I could write a book about the summer,” he said in September 2011 after the sale of Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas.
“I think it would quite be an interesting one. Not because of me but because of all that happened, it was quite unbelievable. And you would see that it was not as easy as it can look from outside.”
Back in 2009 he played down speculation linking him with a move to Real Madrid stating:
“I might write a book one day about all the contacts I have and if you are interested in it I am happy to offer it to you [the media]. But I don’t think I will ever write it.”
Arseblog News sincerely hopes the boss does put pen-to-paper one day, if only to give Ju Young Park and his sad eyes some closure.
I would pay good money to read that book. Maybe he could call it the ‘Game of Moans’ and there could be a HBO tv series! I kid! Whatever Arsene has to say would be 100 times more interesting than red nose, he cleverly leaves at parts about bribery and a whisky problem!
What a book it would be. Probably will be waiting a long time for it though. Will have to make do with the Morrissey autobiography in the meantime. Plenty of wit displayed in it. And a bit of moaning.( hey its Morrissey , what else were you expecting)
I would think he won’t do one until he retires so I hope we are waiting a long time… Sign da thing.
I’d also expect it to be thoughtful, philosophical, witty, humourous and engaging. In other words everything that Fergie and his book arent. Miserable old grump.
Agree totally. AW certainly has a lot more class then that miserable Fergi.
I’d love to know why we signed Park
Fucking right. I bet even Wenger asks himself this question. Especially since he did everything to hijack Park’s transfer from Monaco to Lille.
One day I really look forward to reading Arsène Wenger’s autobiography. It will be a masterpiece, full of insight, revelation, and wise observation and comment, and could well become the football manager’s bible for the latter half of the 21st century. I have no doubt it will be the complete antithesis to the red-nosed one’s book, which will bring him in a few pennies so he can have a happy Christmas, and then be forgotten. Except, perhaps, for the disgraceful comments he’s made on some of his past star players (and others). Ferguson has betrayed how little he really knew… Read more »
you mean he can’t even find a good ghostwriter.
Write da ting!
Pop Pop!
strangely, i can’t imagine a wenger book being as explosive as ferguson’s book when he does write it. wenger is, and always will be incredibly loyal – i really think he aspires to the idea of “if you don’t have anything good to say, don’t bother saying it”. ferguson, in contrast, has always been a bit of a cunt. can you imagine wenger sticking the boot into, say, vieira in the way that fergie did to keane? a couple of weeks ago, in response to the roy hodgson / space monkey story, wenger basically said he thought that what happens… Read more »
Wenger in his future book:
“I could’ve signed Falcao but chose Ju Young Park. Who would have bet that wouldn’t work?”.
Would love to read Piers Morgans new book; “How to combine fatness and faulure – a biography”
Sorry Gooner, thumbed you down by mistake. Agree completely. Morgan is the worlds biggest cunt.
It would be filed in the Philosophy section and therefore wouldn’t sell as well.
Would be standard reading at uni though. Bentham, Hart, Rawls, Wenger. Ah the classics…
Honestly, I hope he doesn’t write a book. He’s far too classy for an Alex Ferguson type book.
I hope he writes a book, but not a money-spinning autobiography. Something more academic in relation to management or economics in football would be better.
I have always had a feeling that wenger knows who threw the pizza
If ever a biography comes out. I would love to know this
like a new book signing
Given that he used to refuse to re-sign players (like Flamini) who had left the Arsenal, just because he believed they should be made to realise what they had left behind, I reckon there’d be an opinion or two in there. whether he names and shames is another matter entirely. i’d love to read a warts-and-all book, though. but i don’t think there’ll be one of those. perhaps he’ll do an alan clarke and have diaries released posthumously…
Please God help us win on Saturday without any injuries.
I’d love to hear Wenger’s rationale as to why he kept persisting with the walking medical experiment that is Abu Diaby.
Maybe he just felt sorry for him and decided to just keep paying Diaby because he couldn’t bear to see him go.
maybe, looking after players who are injured through no fault of their own is a condition of the contract that a player signs and arsenal honour their contracts? i mean tearing up a player contract and sacking a talented young man for having the cheek to have his leg snapped by a sunderland player, then continuing to poke fun at his employers by enduring injury after injury, is probably the kind of action that other key players like wilshere and ramsay would respect, knowing that they would want their own contracts torn up if they were to suffer a significant… Read more »
Sam, Wenger had the opportunity to sell off Diaby during one of his occasional fit periods. Bit he didn’t. Instead he kept insisting that Abu would be a LANS when finally fit. But he was only ever a crock. That’s bad management. Had it not been for the lucky return of Flamini (whom Wenger admited he never intended to buy) we would now still be without the defensive midfielder whom we desperately needed. We would still be waiting for Diaby to get fit again. By the way, maybe Wenger can also explain in his book just why he wasted eight… Read more »
Didn’t buying Flamini mean we didn’t need to buy a DM? So buying him meant that Wenger saw we needed that position covered and probably would have bought someone in. Your guess work is almost as good as mine except I have a player at the end of it….
Every manager makes good and bad signings.
Its about making more good signings than bad.
Right now we have a team full of good good signings such as Ozil, Santi, giroud, Podoski etc.
Zip it, fats..
wenger persisted with diaby because he was talented at football, and that is all that matters to him. Please don’t insult them both by calling diaby “a walking medical experiment”…
Honestly, Fergie didnt show class in his new book! Saw some bit of pride n arrogancy! Hes a legend n should act one! RESPECT 2 ARSENE ALWAYS!
Or maybe he wasn’t injured when he signed his last contract and was adding value to the team at the time. After which you (shock horror) have to pay that player because he has a contract.
Wenger’s hypothetical book would be a joy to read, of that I have no doubts.
Is there any doubt his book would be so much more tasteful than SAF’s? Can you imagine Wenger calling out former players?
The one thing i got from reading just the quotes in the paper about fergusons book is just how astonishingly arrogant he is. The whole thing about beckham ‘as soon as a player thinks he’s bigger than the manager, he’s got to go’ just stinks of a serious ego-centric complex. the guy makes out like he made beckham himself, without even the slightest hint of irony; beckhams ability and fame actually in turn made man united what they are today. Players win the games and the titles and accolades to make furguson this famous, then he turns around and effectively… Read more »
He could have a chapter in it called ‘Ungrateful Wankers’. Ashley Cole, Samir Nasri and Robin Van Persie would feature in that bit heavily.
No mention of van persie at all would be slightly more hilarious.
Would be hilarious not to mention the Skuntk, but would like to know why we didn’t keep him for the rest of his contract. I’d pay 24 million for ManU for not to win a title and us be in contention.
On top of that the Skuntk’s book being called “How I watched Arsenal win more trophies without me”; I’d probably torrent the audiobook.
He will write it and it will be epic and be dramatised in a trilogy staring a greying Jeff Goldbloom as Wenger and Bruce Willis as Steve Bould.
Chapter 12: Ju Young Park
?????
he did wright a book for the Japanese market. More of a this-is-my-philosphy kind of book but I would love for it to get translated to English and read it

Some things it seems Arsene would like to keep a mystery..
Fatgooner, you used to make the odd salient point. Now youre just getting boring.
There would be many things I would like to know from his autobiography… One would be how come such a great manager and person nearly signed a racist cunt of man called Suarez.
The other thing how did he put up with not been able to spend the money after new stadium… Most mangers would have moved on..
But, one thing is for sure. He wouldn’t slag off his ex players like the way AF did. Wenger is too nice and gentleman for that.
He encouraged the stadium and was fully involved in it’s development. He stayed because the stadium was as much his doing as anybody else’s. You don’t instigate a long-term project knowing that it will be tough but you have a plan, and then walk out on it because it’s tough.
The stadium and shortage of money wasn’t done ‘to’ him, it was done ‘by’ him (and the board) to ensure the financial strength of the Club. Short term pain for long term gain.
Yes, but its his career we are talking about… Most great managers too concerned adding trophies to their CV rather than wait for the stadium is built and then they start winning trophies.. Whichever way you look at it, he has made a massive sacrifice for the good of Arsenal. He is winner and must be at pains to see not winning anything for 8 years.
I doubt he’d ever write a book. He strikes me as the kind of man who would only write a book that was honest, and that wouldn’t hurt or embarrass Arsenal Football Club in any way.
I suspect those two things would be mutually exclusive.
Yayy fatgooner is back!
Will Fatgooner be writing a book about his experiences with Arsenal?
He is writing the book of glory. He prepares the Emirates Stadium cover first and then he will write trophy by trophy on the paper.
PLOT TWIST: Wenger threw the pizza
