Boss worried by players on the edge

Arsene Wenger says that his team selection against Sp*rs in the FA Cup today will have to be balanced by the longer term needs of the team.

Although the manager is keen to make up for last season’s defeat to Blackburn in the same competition, he says that there’s a concern that playing certain players may cause them pick up, or aggravate existing, injuries.

“We have one or two who are at the limit because they played many, many games,” he said, “and there is a big danger they could be injured.

“They will be rested but, apart from that, you want to win the game and we have a big break after this match.”

With the likes of Thomas Vermaelen, Carl Jenkinson and perhaps Serge Gnabry set to start, the boss has backed his side to make up for the disappointment of going out of the cup so early last season.

“Honestly I still have in my mind the fact that we went out last year at home against Blackburn, that was not good enough for us and we have to make sure we absolutely put the effort in to have the chance to go through.

“It’s an opportunity that we want to take. On top of that, afterwards we have nine days until the next Premier League game so we can give absolutely everything in this game.”

Wenger also made his usual call for respect towards a former player when they return, but there’s no doubt Emmanuel Adebayor – a man about as popular as finding pus-filled warts on the top of your mickey – will get plenty of stick from the home crowd.

A 5.15 kick off, after a full day of drinking, should make for a tasty atmosphere too. Let’s hope it all goes off peacefully and that the Sp*rs fans have a miserable trudge home to their swamp.

I think Blogs was a little tipsy when writing this. Some typos slipping through the Irish stout haze?

Even though we’re playing a small team tonight, I’m glad to see Arsene isn’t taking the game for granted. I really wish to see us go very far this time and not go out early.
As always, In Arsene I Trust.

Heh

Yes i feel its come a time the players could really do with a rest (festive period and all?). Its touch wood for most of the starting 11 right now and even those on the bench. The 9 day rest is perfect timing but untill then we have got a job to do tonight!

The game is on ITV. A welcome relief for those if us that choose to watch games in London via Madrid, Amsterdam , Brussels, Paris, New York or Doha.

Let’s sign some exceptional players to increase the squad depth as well so not everyone is running on red, please 🙂

Terry

This will be a classic arsene side that will have enough quality is certain positions to win the match, but we will have to take the chances we get. Dig in and fight for the 90! (Hopefully get it done in 90)

Some reasons why Tottenham might hate us. 1. We decided to move address. 2. We flirted with royalty 3. We took their best player 4. We won the league in front of their home fans 5. We have tasted success 6. We have scored straight from their kick off. In front of their home fans. 7. We have humiliated them on countless occassions 8. Arsene has provided stability and seen off chairmen and an endless list of managers 9. We don’t respect Clive Allen 10. We have out performed them every season in my lifetime. Im sure there are loads… Read more »
