Hayden signs new deal. Akpom joins Coventry

Arsenal have confirmed that under-21s captain Isaac Hayden has signed a new deal with the club.

The 18 year-old-defender has flirted with the first team this season, making his debut in the Carling Cup win over West Bromwich Albion and being named on the first team bench on five further occasions.

A versatile defender/midfielder he’ll be looking to impress over the rest of the season in the hope of securing a place in Arsene Wenger’s pre-season camp come the summer.

One player who did make an impression in the Far East back in July was Chuba Akpom. The 18-year-old, who spent a month on loan at Brentford recently, has now joined Coventry for the rest of the season.

The striker has already made his Premier League debut, coming on as a late sub in the 3-1 victory at Sunderland, and also scored a penalty in the Carling Cup shootout at the Hawthorns. He’ll be looking to help Steven Pressley’s side push up the League 1 table and has been given the number 9 shirt.

Speaking about his newest acquisition, Pressley told the Coventry website: “We’ve been looking to add options to our forward line and Chuba is an exciting young player who we’re delighted to bring in.

“He is a young player who is hungry to prove himself, and hunger is certainly a key attribute at this football club.

“We’ve got a lot of games left this season and I hope Chuba will be able to help us get the results we need.”

Excited for akpoms future. Hopefully he can knuckle down and really push on and develop into a fantastic player at the club.

Best of luck to him, we could really use some homegrown talent in our attacking play

Best of luck to him! Tell Aw to stop this rubbish with Jose Mourinho.

Reading the headline made me really worried that it was a permanent departure for Akpom! Glad not!

Miranda

Yes, scared the life out of me too. Very glad it’s only a loan, but I can’t help wishing he was coming back to us to play in the under-21s and more especially in the CL embryos team. We need a bit of interest in the CL after all, and our kids, unlike their counterparts in the first team, might actually have a good chance of going a long way. They’re top of the group and Bayern’s kids don’t look the tough proposition that Dortmund’s were. Everytime I see one of our loanees spending most of his loan spell on… Read more »

Bould's Eyeliner

Wilshere went on loan to Bolton. Say what you will about the guy and his current form, but he is a damn good player and he will prove it again, before long.

Miranda

I know Wilshere did, and Coyle’s Bolton suited him down to the ground. He’s that kind of player, but others – Ryo, Afobe – weren’t so happy and didn’t seem to benefit at all.

Lower-league style isn’t useful for everyone, and as reading the Jorge Bird site over the years makes plain, a heck of a lot of our loanees come home having had virtually no game time at all. Wilshere was the exception rather than the rule.

Bould's Eyeliner

What I’m trying to say Miranda, is that if they can’t even get playing time on loan, then that’s that – they certainly won’t get playing time at Arsenal. Furthermore, it’s not as if teams are just willing to gobble up Arsenal U-21’s, and Arsene decides on a ‘training program’ of weaker sides. Certainly Wilshere was lucky in some aspects, but he was given a chance and he sure as hell took it. That includes how you represent yourself on the training ground, not just gametime. If the players just aren’t good enough, they’re not good enough, and it’s not… Read more »

chopra gooner

Off-topic – Mourinho is a sewer rat !! Can’t develop young players, can only buy established players with the help of rich owner’s money. He lacks class, can’t understand why is he a media darling. Wenger on the other hand is one of the nicest men in the job and oozes class.

Goonbag

Maureen is just a gossip mongering bitch, anyone would think he invented mind games…twat.

Laurel

Best of luck Akpoms. From pre-season form he looks like one for d future in Arsenal.

As classless and insulting Mourinho is, he spoke the truth and what is not factual? The club does not deserve the embarrassment, the manager asks for it.

Have you tried telling your boss you er er.. need a pay rise and extend your stay because you won some deals or did some good work 9 years ago?? Thought most people still live in the real world…as much as we don’t like it.
