Wilshere: we’ve got goals all over the team

Jack Wilshere says that Arsenal’s goalscoring options aren’t dependent on Olivier Giroud, or the new striker who failed to arrive in the January transfer window.

In fact, the midfielder has been talking up the team’s ability to get goals without being overly reliant on one main man.

So far the Gunners have had 14 different goalscorers in the Premier League this season, and Wilshere is keen to play that up. Talking to The Sun, he said, “People keep saying we need a new striker but Olivier Giroud has been great and Lukas Podolski can play there.

“Aaron Ramsey and Santi Cazorla have scored a few. Even I’ve got a couple. We know we can create chances and score goals.”

And with the Premier League in their sights, Wilshere has urged his teammates to keep working to ensure they get the results they need.

“We have to work on our team shape in terms of winning the ball back and getting into better positions.

“The next two months are really important and if we come out of those unscathed, we will have a real chance.

“It would mean a lot to win something. Everything, to be honest. To win something for the first team would be amazing, not just for us, but the fans.”

Here’s hoping. Wilshere is expected to make the squad for the Liverpool game tomorrow.

Want to see Giroud really step it up a gear in the next 4 games, so far 8/10 this season..time for 10

Serge

I’m not talking about looks, that HFB is already a 10

Rosicky's Nose

I love the HFB but he’s not @ 10 for a striker. For me, he’s a 7.

Dan Gunn

He said 8…

Salty

Yes,yes we do! The Big Ox is like a new signing. He took his goals brilliantly. Glad to see him back and scoring.

Durham Gooner

Confident for tomorrow.

Caspa

If we beat Liverpool, I will remain confident the wholw season. The team has done really well to be top considering city’s spree in front of goal. More goals from Giroud will be nice. Ozil will show up, i expect a good game and i think Arsenal will win!

Mallu Gooner

People need to get over the fact that Giroud doesn’t score as many as the ‘world class’ strikers. That’s not his game. He puts it on a plate for the one who’s going to make the assist. He links everyone up top. He’s the muscle in this team full of technical players.

MTZ

I agree, though that description sounds way too much like Emile Heskey, so I have to add the fact that Giroud does in fact score goals and is far from rubbish in front of goal. That being said, Zlatan could easily do both – be the muscle and score 30+ goals, but he’s one of a kind right now and would cost a bazillion unicorn testicles to buy (despite being 32). Other than him, I think we have to settle for either a link up striker like Giroud (and he really is one of the best in that regard) or… Read more »

TopOfTheLeague!

Soon Kos would be on the list too. Title Winning Goal!

Tamilgooner

Was thinking of posting something similar .+1 to you .
All hail Kos the Boss !

I would like to see Ozil shoot himself a little more often. Maybe playing with greasy ronaldo has conditioned him to always pass even when he has a clear shot himself. I have no doubt that the goals will come though. Even with out many goals so far he’s been fantastic, but his best is yet to come and round about now would be a good time to see him go to that next level.

paulos

I would like to see Ozil shoot himself a little more often.

Totally read that wrong the first time.

Highberry

“I would like to see Ozil shoot himself a little more often”
erm I’d really like to see the Dutch Skunk and Cashley play russian roulette for real

Pedro

Our big match goal scorer Koscielny is not in that list yet. Perhaps, he is waiting for Deathrun 1 to begin!

Sky parrots and pundits push the anti arsenal the usual anti arsenal agenda b t better m o TD were anti bit better now watching arsenal better with sound off

Reality check

Say what?

MTZ

Something about parrots. I do like parrots though, lovely birds.

The Fonz

Lovely plumage.

dink arnold

I have to agree with the sentiment. He’s trying to say that most times it’s better to watch Arsenal with the sound off, so we don’t need to listen to the pundits, and also to ignore MOTD.

I miss the English language …

Would love to see this happy chappy smash in a few more goals! http://instagram.com/p/kFUcuKuJ-q/

When the opposition park the bus, Poldi hijacks it #aha

Mooro

Despite his 2 goals last week, if Jack is fully fit I feel he should get the nod in the middle, ahead of The Ox. Would also like to see Tom get a start on the right, with Santi moving across to replace Podolski. Tom will set the tempo for the game, and the last time we really pressed and dominated a team, rather than maintaining our shape and then taking them out, was probably Liverpool at home. Villa and Southampton also showed that if you do that to this Liverpool side, they’re vulnerable. That gives us Podolski and The… Read more »

Jeff

No questions, sir.

A one nutter team.

Had it the same when dutifully selecting the team in bed last night; Jack if fit, with Santi, Ozil, and Tommy.
Having me a little relapse sulk about Theo.
If we lost via some Saurez wizardry that’d be one thing, but we certainly shouldn’t be letting them outplay us.

Farooq

Not taking anything away from Giroud even though he is not a world class striker, if you analyze his game to game performances, if he only managed to finish the guilt edged chances he gets he would easily have 15 Premier League goals by now. Honestly my only complaint for Giroud lies in the finishing department, I’m happy with what he brings to the team. Prime example in keeping with the theme for tomorrows game is his miss against Liverpool in the reverse home fixture when he dinked the ball wide off Mignolet’s near post in a one on one… Read more »

mike

he aint exactly huntelaar i give you that, but with a team of short blokes its worth remembering not only what he bring to the team in attack, hes also a useful head in defending set pieces. Im interested to see what Arsene will do in summer in regards to a striker, sell bendtner and replace with another target man? replace with a goal poacher? or the surprise option? keep bendter and sign a goal scorer ?

SoqedHozi

And our usual “goal-scoring” centre backs, kos and verm, have yet to get in on the act. More to come! COYG

El blondo

I’m sensing a Kos winner to make it 15 goal scorers this season…no one deserves one more!

Mills

For me the only thing Giroud lacks (and the team on the whole or that matter when Walcott is out) is pace. Too often we soak up pressure when we’re in front to try and hit them on the counter, but when the opportunity arrives our lack of pace means the chance breaks down. Thankfully it hasn’t been an issue thus far but against the big teams who will press high up the pitch if they’re losing it could be the difference between getting a second goal or conceding one.

MTZ

I actually find it quite surprising, but we are indeed lacking pace without Walcott. It’s odd, as I keep thinking of our team as a fast team, but we only really have that one super fast sprinter. Too many players who want the ball and not enough players trying to find room behind the defence.

lady nina

AND KOSCIELNY HASNT EVEN STARTED HIS MANDATORY SCORING STREAK YET!

Goonerestgooner

It wouldn’t feel like a “proper” title winning season without a win at Anfield.

C’MON YOU GUNNNNNNERS!

dan

Proper or not, if we win the league, a draw at Anfield will be the last thing I think about..

bazza_wicks

when we played shitty we missed our guilt cut chances and lost the game by ending up chasing it and losing a game that could of been 6-6, this is another simular game if we take our chances and score first it will turn the crowd and frustrate Suarez who then goes off his game, they are a better force going fwd but not backwards, if we close down and play our quick passing game then we will win, but we need the tempo from the start not in the 2nd half mite be too much too late “come on… Read more »

Darwin

Not going to lie, I’m worried about this game. It’s the first in a punishing sequence. With several key players out. The lack of a prolific goalscorer is a concern, but not signficant as it will make marking and the shape Liverpool adopt problematic for them. My worry is that this should be winnable, although difficult, and I do not want to think of the dent to confidence at the start of this run if we lose. I also think Suarez will really go for it, and the support he’ll receive off Sturridge, Sterling & Coutinho will stretch us. Definitely… Read more »

We’ve got goals.. Goals.. In different area codes

Darwin

Ahem. Let’s hope we take our gilt-edged chances so that it doesn’t provoke a guilt-ridden response.

Ayokunle Solomon

Arsene wenger must stop starting arteta & flamili. Each time he use them we either lose or draw that match e g against Man u& napoly we lost and draw against Southampton.

Dick Swiveller

I get the feeling AW has got the message about those two playing together, maybe part of why he felt the need to reinforce midfield in January (kinda…). I think it’ll be lack of options that makes a Flamini/Arteta midfield in future.

Rdent gunner

First trip to Anfield after a winter transfer break. Anyone miss the Crazy Russian?? Nah, never mind

waitina from nairobi

Goonerestgooner

^^^ the echo of Frimpong can still be heard around London Colney.

TazzyBalboa

I really hope both Kos and Rosicky get on the score sheet. Both have been absolute heroes this season.

Duby

Wow, Walcott in number 3 with five goals! What would his tally be if he had been fit for most part of the season? Little wonder he was the club’s top goal scorer for two seasons.
