Aaron Ramsey’s fine start to the season has been recognised by his peers with a nomination for the PFA Young Player of the Year award.
The Welsh international led the Gunners title charge scoring 13 goals in 27 appearances before an injury picked up on Boxing Day curtailed his involvement for more than three months. One suspects had he not been sidelined for so long he’d have picked up a nomination for the main award as well.
Either way, it’s a tip of the cap to a player whose improvement in the last couple of years has been nothing short of inspirational.
Tony Adams, Paul Merson, Nicolas Anelka, Cesc Fabregas and Jack Wilshere make up the five Gunners to have won the prize in the past, although if Ramsey is to join them he faces stiff competition.
PFA Young Player of the Year shortlist
Ross Barkley, Eden Hazard, Aaron Ramsey, Luke Shaw, Raheem Sterling, Daniel Sturridge
PFA Players’ Player of the Year shortlist
Steven Gerrard, Eden Hazard, Adam Lallana, Daniel Sturridge, Luis Suárez, Yaya Touré
Bar the injury, he would have won it
Bar the injury, he would have won Player of the Year
Injuries must be barred.
Well played
Someone tell the FA to suspend the injuries indefinitely -_-
Hopefully next season we will see Arsenal players dominate that short list.
We already dominate the “short” list.
Unfortunately with injuries I don’t see him winning it.
Sturridge and Hazard are young enough to qualify, and in all seriousness, both of them have been absolutely brilliant as well and should either of them win it, it will be a completely deserved win.
Had Ramsey and Ox stayed fit throughout the season they would have easily been favourites, but injuries 🙁
although if he was fit we have played a lot better and we still might be in touch with the top 3. that might have made his case better against SAS
I think it will go to Barkley, not because he is better than Aaron (who, incidentally I think would have won it this year) but Barkley has seemingly had the better season.
Pleased to have him back though, and who knows what this will do for his confidence. I expect a 5 star finish from him.
Ahh yes, 5 goals and zero assists Ross Barkley. The clearly superior player to Aaron Ramsey who has not only scored and assisted many more but does it from a deeper position on the pitch in less games while he was leading the league for tackles. Barkley should not even be on this list when players like Coutinho and Eriksen aren’t.
All the best Rambo!
Aaron Ramsey will emulate Robert Pires and sweep all before him.
Hard to look beyond Hazard and Suarez to be honest.
What about sagna.?
I think what Aaron did for 5 months consistently deserved the accolade, Barkley has done well but it’s been in fits and starts.
On a separate note, I see Arseblog asking what fans could do to show their disgust at the Hull fixture being move at short notice. I suggest red action knock up a few red and white coloured cards that fans can raise aloft to spell ‘Sky are Cunts!”. Then the away support could just chant “Sky are Cunts” for 90 minutes. It would make for interesting family viewing on Easter Sunday.
I know it doesnt matter a bit, but the fact that you can be nominated for junior and senior pisses me off. Such an irrational all encompassing hatred. Good old football.
Suarez gets nominated but Bendtner doesn’t? FA are corrupted
He’s probably behind Hazard right now, but he has 4 matches left to make people remember
He did have that lovely headed assist in the last game too
Bar the injury he would have won both gongs.
We’ll never know how we would have performed with him in the team over the last three months. The man won five (club) player of the month awards in a row. A loss like that would be hard for any team to overcome. There is a steel that we are missing in the really big away games. Can Aaron and Jack provide that next year, stand up and be counted when backs are against the wall? We need two or three guys to emerge as leaders, not just with their performances but also with their mentality. Be up for the… Read more »
Jack and arron are, for me more creative offensive midfielders arron being a touch more solid, Id love to see Lars Bender brought in as he is a purely defensive, young enough talent that could steady the ship for us for the next 5 or so years and allow our weapons, Arron jack santi Özil rosicky and co even more freedom assuming a central berth for them obviously. Its been too long since we had a proper DM, i know we have flamini now, and hes been very good, but age is there and he and arteta cant be expected… Read more »
You know that Aaron is no mug defensively either, right? He’s our best tackler on a per game basis and is in the top 5 in the league in this category, despite missing 3 months. For Jack defense is definitely a weak point in his game that he needs to improve on.
Only if aaron didn’t get injured.. He will win the main prize
As most have said bar his injury I think he would have won both accolades to be honest. I mean look at his performances since he has come back. Sometimes I like to dream and imagine what would have happened if Ramsey never got injured :'(
ah, the painful, hurting, “what if” dream. If Ozil and Ramsey were better managed in terms of playing time, maybe one of those abject losses might have been a draw, one even a win. All moot now, but it sucks to think about how our squad management and january transfer window fiasco contributed to the pain of the last two months.
Next season.
If Rambo had stayed fit and kept form then definitely – he was on fire before he got injured… You have to ask the question as to why players who never got injured before they came to Arsenal now suddenly seem to be suffering frequent injuries. It has been said before that Arsenal’s training regime is unsuitable and that players are rushed back too quickly – Rambo being a case in point. You only have to look at Liverpool, Chelsea or City or even Everton and they do not suffer the injury problems that we do That coupled with a… Read more »
Congrats Master Ramsey. You deserve it.
COYG!!!
Have to say I’m having a real boilk of a morning (too many IPA’s), but Blogs your post about eggs and chicken nuggets fucking cracked me up!! You sir have offensive potential! Now I’m going to puke and kick her out if my house…I can’t remember her name..
Umm a question my fellow gunners..
Why didn’t we bid for Adam Lallana?? He’s a fantastic player and I for one, think that the Arsenal way of playing would have suited him??
Any thoughts?? Or I’m missing something about him..
So I ask an honest question and I get thumbs down.. What gives??
P.s: Ramsey for Player of the Year!!!! (Probably should have added that).. Go you Welsh Rambo..
News Hound, you’ve made a spelling mistake in the players player of the year short list. “Steven Gerrard” isn’t how you spell “Olivier Giroud” 😉
Too much
The injury definitely rules him out, was on fire before that though.
For me Sturridge young player and Suarez player of the year, pretty straight forward…
I’m not sure if the injury rules him out… If it were to rule him out, he wouldn’t even have made the shortlist. Remember, he was out for 3 months, and he’s still made the shortlist; that, for me, means that his achievements in the first half of the season is equal to the contributions of each of the others in the list, so they’re all virtually on par and if Rambo plays the last four games of our league season like he played before the injury, he may well still have a good chance of picking up that award
How is mertersacker or kos not on pfa? Or mertekosser (a joining of the 2 as they had such a srrong parrnership)
Well played
Young player will go to that shit sturridge
While a lot of people here are understandably focusing on what could have been (so, so much more), I’m choosing to focus on the fact that he’s been nominated DESPITE the 3 month lay off…this is a testament to the levels our Rambo was operating at, and at 23 will still improve on. The fact that this award is voted by his peers makes me believe that he must be well respected amongst his fellow footballers, which is hardly surprising but makes me love the man all that much more. Congrats Aaron, whether you win or not you remain a… Read more »
Hope Rambo knocks in a couple of timely goals (maybe a hat trick) for the remaining four games. Anyone getting on Sanogo’s case (or jack’s for the matter) should do well to remember Ramsey and Walcott. Players do improve. The issue I have was over last season, some of the learning curve was at our expense. I suppose you can’t help it as it is not an easy thing developing your own. Don’t play them enough and they don’t get the necessary exposure required to step up. Play them too soon and it will cost you games. But that’s part… Read more »
Suarez has PoTY tied up but YPoTY is a hard choice between Barkley, Hazard & Sturridge.
Shame for Aaron as he would have pissed YPoTY if he stayed fit & challenged Suarez for PoTY.
I feel so fucking sorry for Aaron (and us as fans) as he would’ve been player of the season if he wasn’t injured again. He was a revelation. He was a joy to watch. We were so close this year! Any club that loses players such as Ozil, Ramsey, Walcott, Wilshere all at once would struggle!!!
Suarez should be awarded Player of the Year for all the effort he put into not biting anyone this season.
P.S. Well done Aaron on the nomination, you’d be a certain winner if it wasn’t for the injury.
