Ramsey: “You can’t concede goals like that”

Aaron Ramsey admits that he’s been frustrated by his time on the sideline but says he’s fired up to help the Gunners finish as high as possible in the league this season, as well as winning the FA Cup.

Having fallen very flat at Goodison Park yesterday, Ramsey’s introduction was a little taste of what Arsenal have been missing, and fans will be hoping the Welsh Jesus can resurrect the season at Wembley this Saturday.

“We are really disappointed,” he said of Sunday’s performance. “It was a massive game – there was a lot riding on it but we conceded some sloppy goals. We were quite vulnerable on the counter-attack and they exploited the opportunities.

“I thought we started quite positively, we had a few attempts and got into dangerous positions, but you can’t concede goals like that.

“We have to pick ourselves back up now. We have still got a lot of points to play for. We are in the semi-final of the FA Cup so we have got to put things right.”

And of his own situation, he said, “It was very frustrating for me to be out for three months of the season when things were looking so good

“These things happen in football and I am just glad to be back out there now. Hopefully I can show what I can do, help this team achieve Champions League football again and hopefully have a medal at the end of the year.”

Let’s hope he can provide some spark to a team that badly needs it.

He’s been sorely missed. I personally wouldn’t have said that 18 months ago

Midwest Gooner

I wouldn’t have either, but I’m very happy now he’s back.

goonero

Thank fuck we managed to tie him down!

Dr Baptiste

To a cross?

Jaygor1

Will be the difference if he stays fit for rest of season. Should see us safe for champions league place and hopefully fa cup.

heroldgoon

Dat pic shows a boy full of confidence and raring to go. how exciting! make him captain I say!. hes ahead of boy jack for me.

CountLeaf

hope that’s a joke. fickle, just fucking fickle. a year ago he was to be kicked out from our glorious club (not saying by you), now he’s a fucking captain material.

tune down. cue the ‘ramsey is shit’ bandfuckingwagon if only he doesn’t manage to hit his form of life right after returning from injury.

welshman

I’d Like to see Aaron as captain ahead of Jack, but I’m welsh so i am biased towards Aaron. Although he was welsh international captain….

welshman2

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaa Rambo for captain !!!!

Arsenal need to start Kallstroom and Rambo. Better than the horrific form shown by Arteta and Flam

KingKolo

Why does it have to be versus boy jack? When Wilshire recovers from injuries and performs like we know he can… who should be captain then? Or what if Ox comes good…? Who then… and so on. Support one club, not individuals within it.

RAS

Amen to that Ramsey, we surely missed you.

goonero

See this is where my problem is, are we playing shit because we are missing players like aaron ramsey, or is arsene wenger’s fault that we are missing players like ramsey and by extension his fault that we are shit? Or is it the boards fault that arsene missing players like ramsey which is why we are shit? Why are we shit?

singaporegooner

It’s Wenger’s fault, but for not providing enough depth for the team. Every team can and will get its key players injured, it’s the manager’s responsibilities to get players in.

And we’re playing like shit because of a lack of competition (see Giroud)

Glasgow_Gunner

The manager should be given the chance to show what he can do in the summer. We can buy almost any player that we want now. Better yet, a group of them.

If Wenger fumbles again, it will be open revolt and he may be invited to leave. I’m giving him one more season of support in the hope he will finally grab his chance to fight them all by throwing some money at the problem.

Dial square

That’s a fair point, however, it’s not as if he has had no money to spend over the last eight years, he could easily have bid £50 million for Saurez, but the +£1 bid sums it all up for me, he’s the guy don’t forget that thought Giroud could fire us to the title..

Stan The Man

Kind of hope Josip Drmic is brought in, seen him play some games, and he has similar playstyle to Henry or Van Persie. He got pace, he likes to take defenders on, and usually succeed. He has a very good first touch, and his finishing is first class. At 21 yrs old and playing for Nürnberg no less, he is 3rd on goals scored in bundesliga only 1 goal behind Mandzukic and Lewandowski. However you would Imagine the 2 leaders playing for Dortmund and Bayern gets alot more chances. Infact Drmic have only half the attemps on goal that Lewandowski… Read more »

Well giroud was top scorer in France

Maniac

Maybe if the Liverpool didn’t wipe their arses with contracts we would have been able to get Suarez. We made the bid in the hope of talking to him yet were denied doing so before having John Henry, the same man who said “what are they smoking at the Emirates?”, come out and say the clause was actually correct. Nonetheless Suarez is nothing more than another gun for hire. Just watch him do an RVP by demanding 300k a week at the end of the season and forcing a move if he doesn’t get it. He has no loyalty to… Read more »

AllGunsABlazin

But if we had him for a fully fit season at top form, he like RVP could have won us the league. I don’t give a flying fuck if some players are hired guns, I would have been much happier if RVP left AFTER winning us the title.

Otygooner

Thats what we’ve been saying for the past few years,I’m sorry to say this, but I actually expected us to finnish 4th. I just didnt expect us to strugle to get it

Stoph Stoph

What the past few years when we didn’t have the money we have now? Think before you comment.

Macduff

Rubbish. £140 million in cash reserves did not appear overnight.Think before YOU comment

Dr Baptiste

Rubbish. The earth was flat before we had cash reserves. Think before YOU comment

Up4grabs

Baptiste, you try to hard son.

That Genius Bergkamp

Why are we setting Arsene up for failure? He’s done his awesome bit for the club but the time has come. Why are some of us having a difficulty letting go? He’s consistntly said that he doesn’t believe in the spending of extreme money in the transfer window. It’s engrained in his principles. Why do we think he’ll change overnight?

Lets get the FA Cup as a final send off to the great man. Lets give other managers the chance. Do’t fear change.

UdGooner

haha you expect that we will just win the FA CUP as a send off for Wenger (who absolutely does deserve a great finish to his Arsenal career)? it has to be earned and it ain’t happening the way we are playing right now. Wigan are waiting for us.

Az Ahmed

I think, with all due respect to Wenger, he has taken Arsenal as far as he can and has created the perfect platform for a new, young, hungrier manager to come in and take Arsenal to the top where we deserve to be and where we should be based on our history and on the resources we have. Liverpool and Man Utd have had their time (I pray to God Liverpool do not win the title). It is now time for Arsenal to fill the void left by these two great clubs and mark it’s own dynasty. As for who… Read more »

DarylC

I agree Az, would love to see the Kloppster take the reigns. He may feel he’s taken Dortmund as far as he can – now his injury woes are easing it looks like they should finish runners-up to a ridiculous Bayern side, plus they got a fair chunk of pride back by doing Madrid last night. He’d be leaving on a high. He’s spoke on numerous occasions of his appreciation for Arsenal, plus I read a few interviews where he’s stated he’d be more than happy to up and leave Germany; from memory his wife is an author and they… Read more »

Finally Ramsey gives me something to cheer about. …….instead of the stupid mental strength wenger keeps talking about

Macduff

Resilience too. If only he could get the famous ‘handbrake’ fixed we’d be sound hey!

Mooro

Has to start on Saturday.

Even after 3 months out, he looked a cut above yesterday.

Let’s start him in the middle, Ox on the right and get some fuckin pride back in this team.

oh boy

As much as I would want to watch him play, I still think he needs to be eased-in, lest something might happen as it had in the case of Walcott. He can start, but I don’t think I would risk him playing the entire 90 minutes for a few games at the very least.

heroldgoon

you think genius?

percyofgod

Arteta needs to be given a rest now that Rambo is back. He has been playing poorly this past few games. Ditto for Girioud. Sanogo can’t play any worse than Gurioud is playing at the moment.

Gabes

I’d be tempted to give the Pod a go up front (though he’s been poor there before). He looks like he has the drive to score at the moment and couldn’t possibly do worse than Giroud – plus his experience must mean even in an unfamiliar position he would do a better job than Sanogo? He hasn’t really got the work rate to play on the wing in my opinion (only as a substitute when we’re chasing a game); many of our conceded goals have originated from the left due to Gibbs being left exposed.

arsesicky

I get that the wingers should help out the full backs by providing cover, just as full backs should provide support to wingers by making overlapping runs. but, why does everyone seem to blame podolski for poor DEFENDING on the left? gibbs/monreal are the defenders, poldi is an attacker. maybe I’m just a bit moody and grumpy (monday + arsenal, grrr), but this seems to be indicative of all that is wrong at arsenal. attackers are meant to defend, defenders are meant to make incisive runs, attacking midfielders play at DM, strikers are meant to head away corners or are… Read more »

Welcome to the 21st century

Mpls

Unfortunately we cannot rest Arteta until Flamini is back from his ban. If not for that I totally agree with both of you. He and Giroud need a rest. And Ox is safer and better at the moment scaring the team at the Other end.

AllGunsABlazin

King Kim Kallstrom for Flamini on Saturday, I expect him to get some sort of run in if not starting. I can’t think of any other DM’s we got right now…

Wasn’t Diaby back in training?

deano

Got to be a starter on Saturday.

Oor Wullie

I’d be tempted to put Podolski in for Giroud and start with Ramsey

Norn Iron Gooner

Damn right. At least pod tries to shoot. On sight too, the next player who hits a sideways/backwards pass on the edge of the box is getting hung, drawn and quarter’d.

Shoooooooot! ffs

Mooo

I’m thinking something like: Szcz; Sagna, Merti, Verm, Monreal; Ramsey, Kallstrom; Chambo, Cazorla, Poldi; Sanogo.

Otygooner

Perfect,only fabianski for szcny

Dial Square

Yep, he’s been our Cup keeper all season, and done an outstanding job. Wouldn’t be fair to drop him for the Semi and the Final.

Macduff

I’d be tempted to ask Pires if he has his boots with him

Don Cazorleone

yup, Podolski all day long.
I’d tell Giroud that the game has been cancelled and send him home with the lord of the rings marathon on dvd.

Pete

Yes Rambo!

He won’t allow us to fail. He’s got that “fuck this shit” attitude that Sagna shows us time and again.

Hutch

I actually feel a bit more positive about us, having read that article.
The last 24 hours has been horrible.

roitenak

The difference between the team confidence level and his are different as night and day. He looked really good in his short cameo and he’ll probably be our key player for the semi-final.

I’m a bit worried about his fitness level, not having played for 3 months, but his qualities and his mental are the kind of lift the team needs right now for things to come together.

Pete

Being worried about Ramseys fitness is like worrying that the Sun isn’t hot enough.

GuyFawkes

As soon as he came on he started making runs into the box, unlike any of our players do. We badly, badly missed him. 11 points of 33 available, it’s unreal. Pretty sure West Ham have more.

Even if we’d gotten say 20 points of 33 (which still sucks, btw), we’d still right be in the race, or leading it.

But Alas. Rambo’s setback truly set back our season. Sigh.

La Defense

Källström + Welsh Jesus in the middle of the park against Wigan please.

Otygooner

Yea coz we all know Wenger is a huge fan of changes, especially if his “plan A” faills

Geeeeorrrggge

Is he doing a rabona in the picture?!?!

Norn Iron Gooner

Yep! Love him.

elerrese

Anyone fancy kallstrom next to Ramsey in the starting XI?

Mpls

Not sure after just one short cameo. We’ve never seen him sit put in front of the back 4, and we don’t really know if he’s any faster than Arteta. But if his passing is always like that appearance, it might be worth a run in one of the next matches. He was dropping diagonals and cross field passes on a pinpoint!

Defending is the worry.

Mooo

His defending can’t be worse than Arteta’s.

Mpls

Care to stake the cup on that? 😉

goonerbynature

We’re playing Wigan (scary as that prospect seems after the last few weeks), and most of our squad really are good enough to beat them, which means we should now just pick/drop players on form. Regardless of any reservations about Kallstrom, the fact that he’s not short on form, confidence or fitness alone should put him ahead of Arteta. Likewise Ramsey should be in too, because the current crop clearly haven’t been able to clear their heads.

Mpls

All I’m saying is 11 minutes, and not as the primary DM mind you, is hardly enough for us to know if he’s ‘on Form’ for that role. I am also eager to see him play, but it’s a very tough call with a game of this importance to the club and all of us.

It’s just a shame the dark arts caught up with Flamini when they did. We wouldn’t need to have this conversation. But he should be last mid back. Always. I will never understand why they were reversed for Everton.

leksang

REPERCUSSION of poor selection and limited buying in the first place which means, a root cause problem was already lies in the MONEY. How much they earned ( they meaning “THE BOARD”) and how much had spent?…who knows Wenger had the full right to buy what he would want in the beginning of the season and January transfer. two problems: a) Squad is not good enough to compete at top level that’s why we lost heavily to our rivals. b) limited number of squad or out numbered midfield excluding injured, lacking top notch strike or choice less which both come… Read more »

Mpls

Nah. With the right tactics, lineup, DRIVE (some fucking drive, please) and confidence we should have won that game with the players available.

blahblahblah

I respect Wenger and what he has done but you Wenger supporters are thick as shit, how can you blame the board for the last two windows especially

birbicholi

no you are thick as shit

on one side i have a serious professional known all over the world for ebing a specialist in football management

and on the other hand i have you, fatgooner and a myriad of wankers who think you all know better

fuck off away from arsenal please.

Strevs

Have to admit, after his cameo role I thought we’d have seen more of kalstrom by now. He looked very enthusiastic, and as has been mentioned, Father Time has caught up with Arteta. He looks so ponderous. The Ox should be on the wing. I agree about Sanogo, he literally can’t be any worse than Giroud. Sanogo might be raw, but Giroud is dead on his feet as frankly far too predictable, never turns with the ball at his feet to drive at goal, ever. With Ramsays return we should be able to create a few more chances, hopefully Sanogo… Read more »

Mpls

Unfortunately Sanogo’s first goal was incorrectly -or at least debatably- flagged for offsides. But he found space and was actually looking in behind their back line, which was promising.

And Giroud’s best recent performance was off the bench. He and Poldi as impact subs!

goonerbynature

Agree with that. It might not have counted, but we definitely can’t say he’s incapable of scoring. At the point where Giroud’s hold up play fails he offers us literally nothing at all.

Sanogo might lack a bit of composure (which isn’t exactly Giroud’s strong point anyway), but he’s fast and strong and can run with the ball. If he can play against Bayern and Liverpool, he can play against Wigan.

Away at Everton is definitely not a bad place to get your first goal, and an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley is even better.

WengersNoseHair

I like how Sanogo bullied the Liverpool CBs. Giroud can be irritating the way he flops about every time there’s a bit of contact, the big softy.

Mpls

I’ve defended Giroud, in the recent past even. But can’t right now. He really has started to complain more than play in the last run of matches.

I think he needs to get his energy back and his personal shit straightened out. Perhaps not in that order, don’t know, don’t care. We need more.

Greg

This team has zero spirit and I would love the reporter to question that directly. No team loses the games we have in the fashion we have if they do.

Why didn’t any reporter ask who was playing rm and helping out sagna?

Sadly Sagna is def off. Why should he put up with this amateurish tactical shit

I don’t even think martinez would come to us either

Benvnc

That comment doesn’t make sense. Martinez wouldn’t wanna come because of Wenger’s tactics?

bip

3 months out and have to rely on him to be the man ti win us the game vs Wigan. MAke him captain, h deserves it

Henry!! Chance!!! Goal!!!

Any manager will come to us. Arsenal is one of the biggest jobs in Europe. Martinez WILL take the job if offered. Most managers will.

Don Cazorleone

A Klopp, A Klopp, my kingdom for a Klopp.

Henry!! Chance!!! Goal!!!

A lot of managers will crawl on their hands an knees to come to us for half of Arsene’s wages. Not to talk of the prestige that comes with the job

BFGooner

With half the year out he’s still been our best player this season. C’mon ya Rambo… win us the Cup please will ya?

Naija Gunner

Let’s just win the FA cup and finish 4th…that’s all there is for us.

Strevs

^^^greg, I see you’re point, but I think it comes down to more than ability, tactics and spirit. I think bloggs said it best, there must be a physiological issue regarding all these poor results against big teams.

Steve

Nah it is pants tactics on Wengers part!!!!

AN Other

I am worried about wigans game. Their manager is tactally astute and team full of confidence. It won’t be such a walkover as most of our fans seem to think.

Vescucci

Why does it look like Ramsey shit his shorts 😀

Erwan

Because’s he’s one of the few of us that actually works his ass off gets stuck in for the Arsenal and that sometimes lands him on his ass on the pitch, which as you know has soil, which is brown.

Sorry, I got the joke but just how a player who’s been out for 3 months showed more fight and ability on the pitch in his 20 minute cameo vs the starting 11…I just don’t know.

son of Wenger

We are 4th and in the semi’s of the fa cup! Wrighty and Morgan being complete muppets!
Keep the faith!

Az Ahmed

Ian Wright is a moron. I fink and I fought… If we had listened to him who knows where our club would be

Pffff

My whole problem about the wenger out brigade is this! We say he can’t buy players and that he puts to much belief in to them! Some pay off some don’t! Ramsey was a boo figure 18 months back and shit according to 50/70% of fans. Now he is some kind of God! kos was hardly a shinning Becon off light when he first arrived or for the first 2 years if his afc career now he is great! Admittly Giroud is not the best but ffs he has been trying too play up front on his own all season.… Read more »

Dan D

For me Kallstrom should start the semi final.

Why buy an injured player in January, get him fit after 3 months, play him for 15 mins then bench him for the next 2 games when the side is clearly in need of some fresh personnel? He also had a decent enough 15 mins too.

That question sums up some of the decision making that’s been going on this season; nonsensical.

Up4grabs

Same as why you buy a player & only give him 1 start in 3 seasons.

Mpls

To build fanbase for a pre-season tour of Scandinavia? 😮

Greg

Benvnc Different line different point If aw leaves it will because he’s failed to get 4th with Everton the most likely. Why would martinez leave all the good things happening there to come to us? As has been highly debated all over in the last day aw has been overtaken now by younger managers with freshideas. He has his way, we play the same no way matter what or against who. It’s naive. At least rodgers and sadly jose wouldn’t think twice about substituting a player not doing his job. Mata was sold because he wouldn’t help the team, christ… Read more »

Goontang

I personally was one of his biggest critics for a long time, but I always hoped he would prove me wrong having family from Cardiff I’ve followed him for a very long time. He was the difference from being 1st 4th or even 5th this season.

I personally think mikel artetas time with us should be wrapping up. He’s neither a hard tackling midfielder or creative one. He keeps things ticking greatly with his passing… But I’m afraid we need something more to go along with that.

Neil

I like the fact many gooners are mentioning that Ramsey would make a good captain. It was unthinkable 18 months ago. Despite many gooners (myself included, I’m ashamed to say) feeling that he would never fully recover from his injury and should be sold on or loaned out, he has shown incredible mental fortitude to become the player he now is. We need a captain with balls and one that leads by example. Per is also a good option, but if we are looking for a long term captain then there is only one choice for me. I would make… Read more »

He talks so much sense, far and away the best analysist. Who woulda thunk it while he was at Utd

Why not

PolishGooner

Thanks for the link. What’s more painful than watching us lose like that is how fundamentally awful our defending is. Sometimes it’s like watching six year olds just chasing a ball not worrying about the shape of the team.

Reminds me of those frustrating runs Gallas used to make in which you thought to yourself, “if he doesn’t somehow score on this run he will be so out of position we are definitely conceding a goal on the counter.”

heihaci

War Rambo!

Hopefully, he will drive the team to finish fourth and win FA Cup as currently none of our experienced players are stepping up!

palace gunner

Surely gunners know teams below are hungry for fourth spot, everton got there revenge for the f.a cup defeat its good to see ramsey back gd shot from ox, giroud looks clumsy 2 good chances on everton goal, not forgetting blatant handball frm evertonian anyway will gunners get 4th with everton, man. U & spurs breathing in style coyg

Tony Hall

If Kos is fit for the FA Cup semi imo I think we should start with

Fab, Bac, BFG, Kos, Gibbs
Kim, Santi, Rambo, Ox, Tommy
Poldi

If that team is not capable of winning the match then god help us all

das pauly bear

I think wenger has kept rambo back for the FA cup. I reckon he could have played but wenger didnt want to risk me knowing that if we lost him for the season that we wouldn’t win cup without him. If we dont win cup wenger wont get contract

Call me a half full kinda guy, if u had told me at the start of the season that we would finish in top 4 after having a crack at the title and we’d win the f.a cup I would have bitten your fucking hand off, wenger probably needs to go for the simple fact that he is stubborn and has no plan b but he changed arsenal and English football for the better and for that should be respected forever more, we’ve still got to look on the bright side, and if we don’t win the cup I’ll probably… Read more »

Sometimes you make your own luck. It’s painful to say it. But truth is looking at that Chelsea match, I can’t see Wenger make those gutsy decision to bring on 3 strikers with the game on the line like that. He’ll rather stick with hapless Giroud. That is the sad state of things at the moment.
