Olivier Giroud has welcomed the signing of Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona, saying that Arsenal need great players if they want to win the Premier League this season.
Speaking to Sport Magazine (nice re-design!), the former Montpellier man admitted he was hopeful the Gunners could do a deal after seeing the Chilean perform so well in the World Cup.
“I saw him play with Chile in the World Cup and thought he did really well,” he said, “but I didn’t know then he was coming to Arsenal.
“When I heard they were signing him I thought: ‘Yeah, if he can sign it would be great because he’s a top player’. And he comes from Barcelona – a fantastic team where he played well. He will bring his experience and maybe something new we didn’t have before.”
The Frenchman also had some words of advice about settling in to the new style of football in England, but said it probably wouldn’t be as big a task as it was for him.
“I learned a lot from my first season in English football, and I’m okay now with the box-to-box style and the intensity,” he said.
“I use my body really well now – I improved on that side of it a lot. It’s different for Alexis though, because he’s a short and quick player.
“He’s strong enough, but he will have to learn the style of the Premier League. He will have a short adaptation period, but that’s normal for every player. I think he will understand the game quickly, though, because he’s clever and seems able to adapt well.”

Giroud gets so much undeserved stick. Really a top player, always gives 100% and seems to genuinely understand what it means to play for the Arsenal.
Nice flick there from Giroud to Alexis.
He’s through on goal with just the keeper beat.
Alexis..
Goalllllll !!
Fun times. 30 hours to go. COYG !!
Nothing our boys love more than a good hail, well maybe a rallying cry but apart from that 😉
Off topic, but sort of striker-y:
TGSTEL has gone to Wolfsburg. He’s actually gone to an actual club for good. I know he wasn’t ours anymore anyway but I was starting to wonder if he’d just end up joining the circus or something like that.
Come and see The Greatest Striker That Ever Lived! Roll up! Roll up!
I read a quote somewhere from the president of Wolfsburg were he said about TGSTEL ‘We had looked at the top-end for a striker but none were available, so we had to look down’!! Cant see Lord Nick being happy with that comment!
update to my post above. TGSTEL will wear the number 3 shirt at Wolfsburg! A striker wearing 3. Brilliant!!
“The top shelf was empty. We had to look further down”.
I lol’d.
Good interview, that
Anyone notice that “stick my tongue out like I’m gonna muff”thing Giroud likes doing after he or a teammate scores??lol saw it also in the world cup#CoyG#
If he stops spending time on koscielny’s sofa this year, I see no reason why Giroud can’t get 25 league goals
Off topic we all are relieved off of that Cap. I hate his cap
You better improve,bruh..or sanogo-ed
Completely off the topic but i feel i wish to draw the attention of Mr. Blogs on this one…. Amazing stand. I hope we too become as ruthless as that. The President of sporting said “They will not play next weekend. This will take as long as it takes. If something doesn’t change, you’re going to end up with the players seeing out their contracts. “They can watch the game on television. On Saturday, against Academica, we will play to win and we will win. There is no player bigger than the club. I would not give up the honour,… Read more »
What is this in reference to? I don’t really understand.
Who was the President of Sporting (Lisbon?) talking about and why?
Punishment for Marcos Rojo (media says ManU target) and another player for reportedly handing in transfer requests. They got benched and if media is to be believed are not even to train with the reserves temporarily.
Giroud using his body well indeed. Best looking premier league side by a mile. *swoon*
My counterpoint to Giroud would be Ramsey. Jesus that kid is out of control good looking. But yes our lads are on another level to other teams. Seems like a prerequisite to be at least moderately attractive to join Arsenal these days. Well that and extremely talented.
The more I see of him, the more I think Sanchez has everything to be the signing of the season.
Chambers and Debuchy aren’t too shabby either.
Had to google TGSTEL. Apparently its our Lord. Seems apt.
Lots of drunk people on here tonight.
Not a bad idea. TGIF. I’m off for a cuzza and a pint … Looking forward to the weekend PL action. COYG!!!
No excuse not to score 20 league goals this season giroud…if ur as good as ur fanboys say u are. I don’t care about how handsome u are, ur hair or whatever. Prove u are worthy of being a first choice striker for a big club. Dzeko second as much as u did in the league despite being city’s second/third choice. Bony too in a weaker team. Aguero played 9 matches less and still scored more than u did. No more excuses…even ur fanboys def gotta realise this…till then, he’s just an average striker to me.
Trez: Arsenal’s equivalent of John Terry.
Trez
Is it really so hard to put a y and an I before the u? (Yo)u. You obviously live in your mom’s basement, I’m guessing you have the time, if not the brains.
Nice try….another giroud fanboy resorting to petty insults because i said the truth about his favorite player. You’re the fool with half a brain for insulting me. How childish.
That was supposed to be a y and an o.
Big Boy: Typical giroud fanboy. Get giroud’s nutsack out of ur mouth. Compared to other strikers in top 4 teams, he is very very average. Stop wanking our him cos u think he’s handsome. Being handsome does not win the league or ucl.
‘Wanking our him’.
Ergh…
You’re just jealous because I’m better looking than you.
Sorry meant “off him”
…”Stop wanking off him”.. ? Even if you had a point it’s not worth tolerating your grammar (heh) to work it out. Read the comment policy (if you can) and stop skipping school.
Trez, I understand where you’re coming from because a few of my mates (Arsenal & non-Arsenal fans) share similar sentiments about Giroud. I love him, I think you’re right in that he’s perhaps not as good as Aguero or people similar, but the arguments you’ve used as to why are flawed. Anyway, Aguero isn’t ours, neither is Dzeko, or any of the other strikers for the other Top 4 teams. They’re just men that play football for teams that aren’t Arsenal, so I don’t really give a shit about them. Giroud is ours, he scores goals, gets assists, works his… Read more »
Giroud’s role is about more than goals. It is about controlling the odd king ball, holding it up, bringing our midfielders into play. Some of his combinations with our midfielders are great, like back heal for Ramsey in the FA cup final. With so many excellent attacking players and midfielders, it is key to our game plan to have a central forward that combines well. Sanogo is of a similar mould, rather than Walcott and Podolski who dint get a chance there.
