L’Equipe claim Arsenal PSG talks over Rabiot

L’Equipe are this morning claiming that Arsenal and PSG are in talks over the transfer of midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

The 19 year old has just one year left on his contract with the French champions, and has thus far refused to sign an extension leading to speculation about his future.

The left-footed central midfielder is, apparently, one of those defensive types that we’ve been crying out for and despite his tender years has made 51 appearances for the Paris club.

The French paper says that officials from both clubs got together at yesterday’s Champions League draw in Monaco to discuss the potential transfer, with the Parisians looking for a fee of around €15m for a player they don’t particularly want to lose.

Should it come off, it’s a signing that makes some sense. At 1’88 (6’2) he adds height to the midfield, and with a year of mentoring from the likes of Mikel Arteta (and perhaps Mathieu Flamini), he’d learn how to do it the Arsenal way.

With Arsene Wenger keen to boost his defensive options ahead of Monday night’s deadline, it might also be interesting to see if the manager sees him as a potential option at centre-half as and when we require cover.

Obviously much can happen either way, but we’re giving this one a confident three poo rating as it just feels like a classic Wenger signing.

Because he’s french, has long hair and plays Defensive mid ,Imma call him the new Petit

Alex

Petit noveau – unless you mean he’s worth several Petits. Now that would be a signing!

Cracked

But, le Petit noveau means the little new one, and he’s supposed to be tall!

ontheup

Le petit nouveau means the new guy, whereas le nouveau Petit means the new Petit. Don’t mean to be pedantic and all but nouveau takes a “u” but no “x”.

As long as he doesn’t become the new Sulk I’m all for it. Don’t really like players who go on strike.

Badaab

Several Petits on the field at once would be a sight.

ER1

Le petit nouveaux !!! sacre bleu !!!

Stig

le grande petit noveau

Sacre Ceur!!!

BillyBatts

With that barnet he’s more Grimandi, n’est pas?

ArsenYUL

Just on his appearance, doesn’t he look a bit like a frenchified version of Fellanini?

Third Plebeian

More of a Justin Trudeau methinks.

(Canadians will get this.)

Arsepedant

AARGH! Please, for fucks sake, NO!!!

giroulski

L’Equipe doesn’t seem a reliable source these days, if they ever were. More of a reactionary paper than one that does its own research.

Rabiot refuses to go away. He may be young but it’s times like these that you should whack out the old football cliches. If you’re good enough you’re old enough.

Gooner Gary

Having not watched any youtube clips of him or scouted him on any computer games (shame on me) I thought the word was that he was more of an attacking midfielder than a DM?

Black Hei

After scouting him on good ole Youtube, I can confidently say that he is a deep lying playmaker.

DesiGooner

Many scouting type articles make him out as a young Emmanuel Petit . Left footed , excellent passer and uses his height well to shield the ball . Box to Box , less Wilshere , more Arteta .

With Wenger denouncing the needs of CDMs in the modern game , this sounds as close to a CDM we will ever get

AC

Sounds very good indeed!

Swedegunner

For some reason I managed to lure him on loan to my Nottingham forest season I, for some other reason, started on FIFA 13. He was an absolute beast for the half a season I played. Based on that scientific evidence, I can tell you first hand that this guy is the real deal.

Peanuts Peanuts

Some people discount FIFA anecdotes when discussing possible signings but to me they are actually very helpful.

Gutbukket Deffrolla

Yes, for instance, we now know that Swedegunner is a potential successor to Arsene Wenger. I’ll always trust a manager who believes in cold, hard, scientific evidence.

Wenger Out, when he’s ready! Swedegunner In!

tomARSE

I know about as much as this kid as I do about Carvalho. 51 apps at PSG and only aged 19 AND hearing they are keen to keep him, that doesn’t sound to bad to me. Fingers crossed.

tomchou

transfer window is closed on Monday? waaaaaaaa

bystander

Haven’t seen anything of Rabiot, although my PSG-supporting friends rate him highly and are annoyed at the prospect of losing him. The only negative I can think of is that Adrian Durham thinks he is a good player.

The L’Equipe report claims PSG are asking for a fee between 10 and 12 million euros, rather than 15m.

Dwin

Would be a very nice signing. Hopefully more to come!

The only Olivier is Giroud

Woke up this morning with a serious case of the *boilk* (if I may borrow Blog’s term) and I now find myself in the wrong class and googling Rabiot and the Supreme Court of Appeal for in case the lecturer asks me something, he seems to pepper random people with questions. What an age to be alive in.

Anyway, I say sign him up. People wanting Falcao or Cavani are daydreaming and at 19 he seems to be a good investment if we can get him for 15 mil.

Gunning 4 EPL

Jst bring in quality to fill in the numbers…… Pls Arseblog am the guy on twitter @phemsco who says my comments are not always posted… Thanks in anticipation for your favourable response

Man Manny

Calum Chambers is 19 years; Fabregas played in a champ league final at 19.
Arsene has never been afraid of using youngsters and he’s cheaper than Carvalho. A pure Wenger signing if you ask me.

Soqed Hozi

Definitely had him on loan at a small Polish team in Fifa13, did a tidy job!

He ticks many of the boxes we would require in that position, and with a year to bed in before the midfield becomes vital looks a decent signing. Fee shouldn’t be excessive either.

Peanuts Peanuts

Why does he need a year to bed in if he’s just had a loan spell at a small Polish side?

wat

He looks like French Guy Cooking

Bonjour

I think he looks more like that shit Marocan-Belgian reserve player that Moyes bought on transfer deadline day last summer

Rich

Young
French
Contract expiring soon
The likelihood of this happening look certain

Chris chicoteau

Young ‘tick’
French ‘tick’
Injured ‘cross’
2 out of three criteria ain’t bad 🙂

Ritesh

Hilarious mate! I actually laughed out loud. 🙂

GoonerN16

Good tick box, but according to “Out Side The Boot” (l@ prague_gooner link below) he was injured recently and out for two months. So in fact he ticks all the requisite boxes. Sounds like an excellent option none the less…..

dublin-gooner

Not sure if I like this potential signing. I feel if players were to charge towards him with the ball he’d be like a… Rabiot in the headlights…
*coat*

Goontang

Never seen him play. But does make sense, plenty of experience in the position so why not a young protege.

heihaci

is he the Diaby replacement?
White Viera?

Steve

Shame we don’t know more about him but guess if Wenger likes him and buys him it can’t be bad news

Possession

From what I’ve seen of him the description of him being a deep lying playmaker seems perfect. A few months on the heavy weights to improve his upper body strength would certainly help if Arsene sees his future playing in front of our back four.
What a sweet left foot he has…quality.

Anonymous Physicist

I like the sound of a tall, strong, deep lying playmaker with good technical skills. Someone with some of the vision and technique of Arteta but a bit stronger, taller, faster, and better tackling. That probably makes him sound way too good for what he is right now, but it’s interesting for the future, and you never know for this year either – some young players fit in immediately. I’m not sure I like the sound of his personality though. It sounds like he is currently doing a Pogba at PSG: thinks he’s better than the rest of the team,… Read more »

Stillmatic

Not even.
He rightfully sees that PSG just like buying new toys who will forever stand in his way. For instance, as good as he is, there was no need for them to get Cabaye when they already had Rabiot, but they did (because he’s French).

He needs play time, and he himself, like Pogba, knows he’s good enough to get more regular time, but knows PSG will always want new toys to play with.

If anything, he’s being bloody smart. No point just rotting your potential away on a bench (hi Obi-Mikel).

Anonymous Physicist

I agree that players shouldn’t be content to rot on the bench, but that doesn’t seem to be the case here. The guy is 19, and has played 51 times in the first team at PSG. Last year he started something like 10 league games and a couple of champions league games, and got another 15 or so substitute appearances. If that’s not good enough at 19 at such a big club, then what is? Unless he’s an immediate hit, I doubt we can offer him much more than that.

Black Hei

Look at the facts.

He is on the last year of his contract, he wants to go, PSG doesn’t but also slap 4 midfielders ahead of him while asking for 25M.

New Magic Hat

“Doing a Pogba at PSG”

That’s great news. And bad news for PSG.

Pogba was at Man U and left at the best possible time.

Maybe he could see the radioactive Ebola-laden shit-train coming to destroy the club once BaconFace left (i.e. he is a footballer with great vision!)

They replaced Scholes with Cleverley (!) around the time he left. That was an omen. And I would add that leaving then makes him prescient and abnormally intelligent for a footballer. Why hang around to get humiliated by MK Dons?

Stillmatic

Called it about 4 months back when I first heard he was entering his last year. Ticked waaaaaay too many boxes to not be a Wenger signing. In fact I’m convinced due to PSG holding out and hoping he would sign an extension, that he was the priority all along and we were simply waiting for PSG to concede defeat and let him go, which would be towards the end of the window. Fantastic player, and anyone who thinks he’s “just one for the future” due to his age has another thing coming. He will bring something to the squad… Read more »

Looks a bit spindly. I wanted a brick shite house

Steve of Chiang Mai

Didn’t know much either but did a quick Squawka stats comparison with him, Arteta and Schneiderlin and he faired very well, pretty much matching them in all the significant categories per 90 mins played.

Arsenal needed defensive midfield signings. Magician Wenger pulled a rabiot out of the hat

Momo (@MuhamLAD)

The other 19 year old we signed this summer is turning out pretty well.

Hank Scorpio

http://m.bleacherreport.com/articles/1656693-paris-saint-germain-why-you-should-remember-adrien-rabiots-name

Interesting read – averaged more tackles than Capoue & Matuidi at Toulouse & made them count too.
Oh & I want credit for my learning from Arteta & Flamini comments in the Giroud Out.Alexis In article 🙂

m a gunner

See if Wenger can pull the raboit out of the hat ! Sorry

Springbank 1965

This has been simmering for months. Rabiot isn’t happy at PSG and has refused to sign a new contract (he has a year left on the current one). The problem Rabiot has with PSG is playing time. He wants more and his current club aren’t able to accommodate him. Roma and (perhaps) Inter have also been cited as interested. Wenger (apparently) has talked to him already (by phone, apparently) and (apparently) personal terms have been agreed (?). All plausible. We can cite Chambers as what’s possible at AFC: one minute playing with his chums on a beach in the south… Read more »

Dark Stein

Arsene? is that you?…

Goontang

Is it just me or am I not alone in thinking an awful lot of time and effort is being spent on chasing youngsters like this, rather than proven additions for the team IN POSITIONS WE NEED TO FILL?

Anonymous Physicist

I’m sure the Arsenal staff can deal with signing two people at the same time. We’re not really going to sign a striker unless someone Wenger really likes is forced out of his current team, so if we are indeed going for this guy the only other deal being done would be a centre back.

Goontang

And what about the defensive midfielder that we desperately need?

Anonymous Physicist

There’s no way we’re signing more than one midfielder, so if this deal happens Rabiot will be ‘the defensive midfielder we desperately need’.

Anonymous Physicist

Also remember that we’ve already got 16 out of 17 non homegrown spots for our 25 man champions league squad filled (Ospina, Debuchy, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal, Flamini, Arteta, Diaby, Rosicky, Ozil, Cazorla, Podolski, Campbell, Sanchez, Giroud, Sanogo). And Rabiot would have to go in that squad as well (just like Sanogo) as you can only play under-21s from outside the 25-man squad if they’re been with the club for at least two years. So just signing Rabiot would already potentially interfere with signing a defender if that defender is not home grown, as we’d pretty much have to sell someone… Read more »

Black Hei

This guy is so tall and his hair so big…..definitely a DM.

Why do you ask my name? It is beyond understanding

Does this mean the end of the line for the Flamster? Has even Arsene Wenger shown him the yellow card?

Andy Mack

PSG need to earn the maximum they can in a vague attempt to get close to FFP (but I can’t see anyone paying 75m for him this year! Haha)

MTZ

I have no idea who this guy is, but all the “experts” are generally positive. If we do buy him, I suspect he’ll spend some time bulking up a bit at first, but that’s not really an issue. We’ve seen other youngsters do that and it works out just fine.

Daft Aider

He’s a good player but he had serious attitude problems when he was briefly with City, all the coaches wanted him gone and were relieved when he forced his way out, sounds like a big risk, we don’t need another Nasri!

Hank Scorpio

He was at City 5 years ago…when he was 13-14. Reportedly homesick – fair enough at that age

arsenalista

such a weird thing this has become. sitting around judging the character of 13 year olds.

TGCBTEL

Except he’s been doing the same thing at PSG so there goes your theory……….

i want to boff bendtner and I'm not even gay

Poor fucker will be on the wing before he knows it

renaissancerosicky

heh. made me laugh on here after a while. good one.

Yankee Gooner

That’s bizarre timing.

Yankee Gooner

Definitely laughed aloud at that one

Swedegunner

We will have the most left-footed team in history of football!

ronererier than ever

Am a bit late to the Petit Party but what do you get if you have Pat Bonner and Emmanuel Petit round for lunch.

Bonner Petit

heihaci

looks like he off to Roma for a €15m fee. They beat us to Kostas Manolas too

it isn'tomas rosicky

not all done and dusted though as they say “a fee of 15m has been agreed between the clubs but now Roma still have to convince him to agree to personal terms knowing that Arsenal have started talks with PSG – and that spurs are monitoring the situation”.
There are also seven unnecessary words in that quote.

santori

Spurs, they follow our coat tails.

Goon

Hope we sign him

santori

Can definitely see Rabiot.

Arteta and Flamini are good for this season but Arteta will need replacing a season down. Rabiot will get this season to work in. Competition may also come from Chambers. At 6’2, Rabiot also adds a bit of height as Diaby may go next summer.

Should not cost too much, at 19 one for the near future.

not a comedian

Agree that he would be one for the future, not the impact player that many seem to be clamoring for to come and displace Arteta and Flamini now.

santori

Still need a Cback.

If Rabiot is signed, Chambers covering well thus far at the back, maybe we can go with another Cback who isn’t quite as premium. That Greek Cback at Dortmund Papsthoudoupoulus will sell shirts with his name. nto sure if BVB will sell to us though. For that matter we could also go for their Subotic whilst we are at it. I’d take either one if Klopp is willing to sell us a bit of Rock and Roll.:)

adrian

he plays a lot like diaby. bright future.

not a comedian

For what it’s worth (not much, I know), I saw him playing at the Toulon tournament this summer (on TV, not in France), and he certainly still looked like a work in progress to me..He was a nice passer, but seemed pretty slow and gangly…the Boys from Brazil made France look pretty poor in the final and won 5-2..Rabiot got subbed out after a not too great outing if I remember correctly. Personally not too filled with confidence that he would be much of an impact player for us this year IF he signs..one for the future..Chambers fills me with… Read more »

I think one unaddressed issue from the Giroud injury is the fact that he is fucking immense defensively for us – more so than any Arsenal striker for a very long time. He clears a lot of shit out for us at set pieces – see the recent alarming dip back to the “we are terrible at defending set pieces” Arsenal from a few seasons ago – when both BFG and HFB were absent I am loving Alexis as CF, and think he is the long-awaited Plan A. The Giroud configuration is the Plan B. We used it all last… Read more »

Apparently he is off to Roma… That’s what Lequipe is sayin. Would have been a good buy though… Shame we missed out.

An internet server is a computer established with unique software application that allows it to get requests from the web for the website files it has actually held on it and to send out those data out over the internet to ensure that the asking for computer system could display them. It is quite like a waitperson in a restaurant taking your order and introducing the food that you ask for from the cooking area, thus the name “web server.”.
