Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain believes Calum Chambers has swiftly grown in confidence at Arsenal joking that his fellow Southampton graduate has already started telling him what to do on the pitch.
The England midfielder was quick to take the 19-year-old defender under his wing when he signed on at the Emirates last month and says the way his teammate has flourished both on and off the pitch bodes well for the future.
“It’s really good to see him here,” Chamberlain told Arsenal Player.
“It’s almost weird because I can remember being in his position a few years ago – coming from Southampton to a big club like Arsenal – even though Southampton is a big club.
“But to come to a team like Arsenal, he’s playing with players like Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez. When you move to a team like Arsenal it’s very surprising to start off with, but he has settled in really quickly and all the boys love him.
“He’s already trying to look after me, he’s on the pitch trying to tell me to switch on and that’s a really good sign because it shows he’s feeling confident and comfortable and that’s what we like to see.
“He seems like he’s enjoying himself so I think he’s going to have a good time here.”
Chambers isn’t the only new signing who has taken to North London life like a duck to water. French right-back Mathieu Debuchy has revealed he didn’t have any hesitation accepting Arsene Wenger’s offer and says the move to the Emirates has more than delivered on his expectations.
“When my agents told me Arsenal were interested, I said yes straight away! There was no question, no debate, no doubt, nothing! You don’t turn down a club like Arsenal. A lot of players would like to be in my shoes right now.
“This is another dimension. If you compare the training grounds for example, nothing at Lille or Newcastle can match the Arsenal one. It is another world.
“Everything here is made to optimise your preparation and you as a player. So you can be in the best condition to play and win football games.”
COYG!!!
Bo-Chambo?
If there was ever a downside to Vermaelen, it was the fact that he was reputedly so quiet. Looking forward to seeing Chambers bellowing orders like a Bould or an Adams.
Couldn’t agree more.. we need a loudmouth in the team who’ll bark out at corners and set pieces and make sure everyone is switched on (unlike David Luis in the WC who spent his time looking at the big screen in the stadium to see how much camera time he was getting – pity Chel$ki sold him).. my only worry is that he’s not mature enough to be feared (as in Roy Keane in his hayday) – we need an animal on the team who even his team-mates are afraid of if their own performance dips – Adams did it… Read more »
Just read Phil McNumpty’s piece on the BBC site where he reckons we’ll finish 5th. Yet another Tosser to add to the list of people who spout crap about the Arse. COYG I’m going to laugh my ass off when he has to eat his words later
Seriously?
Again?
*Scurries off for a read and a laugh*
I for one am absolutely thrilled at McNumpty’s prediction. He’s predicted our demise EVERY year for the past fifteen, and EVERY year we’ve made the CL. Keep up the good work, Phil!
Is he the new wonder kid?
pass debuchy pan de left hand side, starting to love this guy
A young player shouldnt be telling senior pros what to do, he should be keeping his head down and his mouth shut
He plays in the first team, that makes him a senior player. Obviously The Ox was talking about Chambers in a positive sense about him shouting on the pitch to keep switched on, seems a bit ridiculous that he should keep his head down and mouth shut!
Chill out mate, it’s not the US army for goodness sake
Now go tell and Tony Adams that……
Or the first incarnation of Cesc Fabregas.
Imagine the banter in the training ground with their names.
Someone: “hey chambo!”
Ox and callum: “yea waddup”
Ox and callum to each other: “fuk off m8”
Jenkinson would be so proud of your banter.
Persiflage.
…And then Jenks walks in…
top banter m7 gr9 giggle
This kid shows massive potential–after watching two matches with Debuchy and Chambers, I see why the Corporal was put on loan. Still hoping Jenks makes a triumphant return, but I’m loving the new additions on defense. (I’m reserving the right to curse the first time we’re exposed because Debuchy is running around in the other six-yard box 🙂 )
such a confident lad, that’s a very very important attribute for a CB and to have it in abundance at such age will only bode well for his progress..
He is not the tallest or fastest or strongest of CBs out there, but he sure as hell has a good sense of positioning and a bucket-load of composure. To top it all of, he is learning from the best CB combo in the league!
He is not the tallest or fastest or strongest of CBs out there @ GGGA
But, he has the time to grow into the tallest or strongest CB, out there……. he is massive for his age already in the sense of positioning, reading the game first touch etc…. diamond geezer! Stroll on….
Debuchy sees so excited doesn’t he.
Great to see people valuing what it mean to play for Arsenal.
On a different note when is theo due back ? One bookie is doing offer of free bet each time the person u back scores , theo is 66/1 for golden boot
Check it out: http://www.physioroom.com/news/english_premier_league/epl_injury_table.php
I reckon that’s a good one, with aguero possibly plagued with injuries after last season and being forced to play at WC, costa in his first BPL season, and sturridge likely to be run into ground with rodgers unable to rotate and having no other striker (don’t forget that pool will be in CL in the third pot, so can easily end up with a madrid, psg, roma type group). With a bit of luck and our rejuvenate attack, Theo can get 25+ this year.
I have been impressed by debuchy’s physicality. I thought we’d miss sagna’s beastfulness but the way debuchy crunched david silva on sunday, well It made me feel safe and asured.
We are the best.
“There was no question, no debate, no doubt, nothing! You don’t turn down a club like Arsenal. A lot of players would like to be in my shoes right now.”
That surely has to be the blueprint of how all future players feel before joining The mighty Arsenal. There should be a pre-requisite where all new signings take an Arsenal oath and salute the statue of Adams/Henry/Bergkamp etc before ‘graduating’.
I’m sure cunnies such as Nasri and Ade would have failed this pre-assessment.
In other news, that cunt Phil McNulty has predicted we’ll finish fifth. For non-UK based readers, this is the man who predicted that the Scousers would win the title the season they imploded under Benitez. I used to get irritated every time a pundit said we’d finish outside the top four, but now it’s just boring.
Hahahahaha dream on Phil. Times have changed. Arsenal have won a trophy and spent big, Manchester United are now a mid-table club, Alan Pardew est devenu Alain Pardieu, and Spurs are still a load of shit a Ponzi scheme.
Check out these Tweets from @Chelseaproject1 (a Chelski fan obviously):
“The hype around LvG is ridiculous. He’s bought an unfit Shaw and an uncapped Spaniard. How can you possibly say they’re better than arsenal?
“Man United haven’t strengthened. Liverpool have weakened and Arsenal have quite evidently strengthened.
“Why are most pundits already ruling Arsenal out of top 4? Have they not watched the premier league for the past 20 years?”
People who know footy know that Arsenal are serious contenders for the title. Don’t worry about the pundits trying to flog page views.
Think he should be called Phil mcmuppet – another pro scouse scummer per chance?
He’s a Man U fan I believe, so no prizes for guessing who ousts us out of the top 4 in his mind.
love that Debuchy’s comment
I’m going to miss Carlaimberlain, but I’m open to the combination of erm … Chamberslain??
Chamberslain could be a mighty useful verb, I reckon.
his name says it all….Phil McNaughty
A short while ago Wenger was asked how many (first-choice) new players a team can accommodate before it becomes disruptive. He answered ‘three’. Which makes total sense. The thing is that’s exactly what we’ve got now albeit under exceptional circumstances. We’ve added Sanchez – who’ll doubtless be our first-choice on either wing or up front. We’ve swapped Sagna for Debuchy – who’s experience and styles are somewhat similar. And we’ve got Chambers to fill in at centreback for a few games until Mertesacker returns to fitness. What’s especially nice though, is how they’ve slotted into their roles already. With Chambers… Read more »
I believe that the ‘first team’ in that meant the usual starting 11, which puts us at two currently.
I’m not sure how you can predict what positions teams will finish in August when they’ve not even kick a ball. All it takes is one or two long term injuries to key players and things look completely different. The predictions are silly and not to be taken seriously
I hate the word banter.
And I hate the word ‘hate’.
Bantz is way better!

Pretty sure the upcoming edition is FIFA15
Calum the CALM BOSS Chambers!
That dick head Michael Owen just put his top 6 on twitter. Has Arsenal fifth, Liverpool 4, and United 3rd! Is he fucking blind?
No, just fucking stupid.
The worst part isn’t his rankings, it’s reading his rankings with his annoying fucking voice ringing in my head.
Nope he is just an ex-United/Pool employee.
Bantersaurus Rex.
Where is the new CB. Very worried, Wenger has known for ages Vermaelan was leaving and hasn’t done anything about it.
Chambers is going to have to start on Saturday and he’ll be up against the might Chamakhattack. #gerronwi’itwengerffs
Great versatility Chambers but let’s also remember that we have a number of other players that can play in 3 positions +
Santi, Rosicky, Alexis, Campbell in particular.
Some of our players can cover 2 positions
Flamini, Chamberlain, Ramsey, Ozil, Monreal
we have a very flexible and mobile squad at the moment
Think Chambers is being tested in defense because of the shortage at the moment in CBACk
If/when we add a quality Cback for competition (not cover), Chambers will cover as option to Koscielny but also re-role to midfield as a DM back up and audition for a possible replacement for Arteta down the line (or Flamini if timeline does not permit)
Thereafter he may find himself back in the Cback line when koscielny leaves.
With regard CBack requirement,
I would prefer someone median age to Meterscielny and the younger players in Miquel, Hayden and Chambers.
Someone preferably 23-25. Hummels is 25.
It will give 2-3 seasons for younger players to develop whilst older stalwarts phase out at 30-31.
23 and under IMO is too young and a younger option learning the craft may not give us enough insurance.
That said, someone like Nastasic has had quite a bit of experience under his belt at 21 and could be considered.
speaking of Dortmund
I believe Subotic’s contract is up this summer.
with Hummerls, Ginter and papasdopoulos, we could perhaps snatch Subotic.
Future captain?!!!! COYG
