Arsene Wenger believes a draw was a fair result against Leicester but admits his side’s attempts to win the game in the second half could have led to defeat.
The Gunners took the lead through Alexis’ first half strike but couldn’t find a winner after Ulloa’s equaliser. Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, the boss also touched on how Laurent Koscielny’s head injury played a role in the hosts goal.
“It was a tough, tough game. I think we were a bit unlucky because of the injury to Koscielny. I think maybe he would have got the ball. After that the draw was a fair result, we didn’t create enough today and they fought very hard.
It was put to Wenger by Sky’s Geoff Shreeves that Arsenal had actually created 24 chances, more than any game last season, only for the statistic to be given short shrift.
“Yes, but clear cut chances no. We missed a few opportunities, but I felt we lacked creativity and sharpness. We’ve had two tough weeks with three away games at Besiktas, Everton and today and Wednesday the Champions League was very demanding. It’s not an excuse but we were a bit jaded.
“We wanted so much to win the game that we lost any caution and without creating more we were more open to the counter attack. In the end we could have lost the game.”
On the subject of signing a striker before tomorrow’s 11pm transfer window deadline, Wenger remained as coy as ever.
“The decision [to add players] isn’t difficult to make. It’s finding the personnel that’s the problem. We are open and we work on it, but let’s not fool ourselves that every time the solution to not winning a game is buying a new player.
“Everybody does that [lose]. Manchester City lost yesterday against Stoke and they have strikers. Buying one player doesn’t mean you win the game today. We want to [buy someone] and we are open to it.
“The pressure ot buy is always there whether Olivier Giroud is injured or not. That happens every time you don’t win a game. We have to live with that. We try our best and everybody at the club tries their best to do well.
“We’ve just come out of two very difficult weeks both nervously and physically. Yes we are disappointed not to get the three points, but let’s not put that all down to missing a striker. Football is a bit more complicated than that.
“I don’t want to speak about individual cases, we are very active.”
He didn’t say it specifically but it does look as though Arsenal did make a late bid to sign Loic Remy from under Chelsea’s nose. The French international was today confirmed as a Blues’ player although the fact we did try would suggest an attacking arrival tomorrow isn’t out of the question.
I think Sanago is shit. I have done for some time now.
As Gunnery Sergeant Hartman would say – “Six-foot-three, I didn’t know they stacked shit that high!”
Scapegoat, what about our bunch of overrated midfielders, bunch of fucking loosers
Carlos Bacca – Wicket-keeper who scored three touchdowns for unknown Central Asian kindergarten team in the later years of the 14th century.
Yeah, Arsene, of course we believe you don’t know who he is.
To the people thumbing down this comment:
16 games – 0 goals.
No other striker in our history has been given the amount of chances Sanogo has despite failing to find the back of the net. Yes TH14 went 8 games without a goal, but you cannot compare the two.
Time to take off the rose-tinted glasses.
“has been given the amount of chances”
Honestly? How many simple chances has Sanogo really been given? He’s been living on rubbish service since he got here. The problem is with the service, not with Sanogo, and Wenger nailed it in the post-match.
Part of the problem is that since Van Persie left we’ve been dying for a striker who can create something for themselves in games like today and not rely on his teammates to serve up chances on a platter. Having that sort of man up front also frees up all sorts of time/space for their teammates to exploit. We need a striker defenses will fear again…
How can service be a problem with a midfield featuring Carzola, Özil, Sanchez and Ramsey I wonder?
how many did he start of the 16? give the guy a break.. he might not be henry.. but he isnt exactly shit..
How convenient you count those 8 games in BPL last year, in which Sanogo altogether played astonishing 79 minutes. So cool.
He’s had 2 good goals disallowed by really poor officials which would have made a difference. Confidence is really important to a striker and if they had both stood, he’d have a few more by now but instead some of the ‘less understanding’ supporters get on his back which effect confidence even more. That doesn’t/wouldn’t make him a goal machine but he’s better than his ‘stats’.
sonogo is shit buddy . the only people who see it different are Wenger and a few numb nuts on here !
the only reason we scored is because sonogoal fucked up his chance and shined it to alexis
Yes another striker would have bent the laws of gravity and made the ball drop quicker so they could get a clean strike on it…..
He didn’t ‘shin it’ but certainly didn’t get a decent contact either.
He is the striker version of Almunia. So, we stuck with him for 3/4 more years because Mr Wenger is always right and the rest of the world are wrong and should apologise to him. It is all about Mr Wenger proven the whole world wrong NOT about the club any more.
Arsene IS the problem.
Sanogo is a Wenger “project” and that is probably why he hasn’t been sent out on loan, and why he got the start ahead of Campbell.
He got the start ahead of Campbell because Campbell is not a CF.
You can’t even spell his name, so it’s the old three-fingers scenario.
Isn’t Bony still available for around 16 million?
He’s not shit, he’s out of his depth and should be playing a few leagues down until he’s a little less green, putting him straight into a team like ours is bonkers and what we need is someone to take the manager to task about why he’s gambling a season to save a few pound yet again………
There is nobody to take the manager to task. He effectively owns the place. That’s the problem. He’s a genius but needs someone to reign him in when his experiments go too far.
To think Balotelli was available for 16m and Arsene said “no I’ll pass, we are good with Sanogo”…the mind boggles. Anyone with any influence at the club would’ve made that deal happen just as a back up plan in case Wengers faith in Sanogo didn’t prove justified.
Mate, I’m 100% with you. Well made point.
Agreed, bar the Balotelli bit. The guy is a nutcase. Good striker, but the price says a lot. If he wasn’t a bellend it would start with a 3, not a 1 😉
We need a worldie, a huge talent, not a huge ego!
If Ramsey squares to Sanogo, Sanogo scores the (probable) winner. But, because Ramsey took it on himself, Sanogo is a failure, just like that No. 16 lad who couldn’t complete a pass in all of 2012.
Oh.
Great point Özil’s living! I thought exactly the same when I read this. I also agree with Savages point regarding the delivery – It hasn’t been the greatest either. Comparing Sanogo to the match against Benfica and today’s match is a big difference. Sanogo was getting great service from Campbell and Ramsey then. Sanogo may be more effective against opposition off the bench like he did against Hull City in The FA Cup final. Sanogo shouldn’t be the scapegoat and Wenger is to blame on relying on such a ‘green’ player. So for all those giving him crap…cut him so… Read more »
While I do not blame yaya for his inability to score, Arsene is doing him no favors by playing him with no returns. Surely, his confidence isn’t improving with constant criticism for his lack of goal scoring. Switch things up. Send him on loan. Keep him for cup games whatever but give someone else a chance. Change the formation. Be creative if you don’t want to sign a new player. We lack creativity and directness in the final third- well you have a young striker in Campbell who provides exactly that–how about you give him a chance? And not in… Read more »
No ,he is a good player
shit performance but lets not panic lads. look at United
I really don’t get all the negativity that has flooded the boards after this game. Yes, bad result, but it’s only 3 games in for heaven’s sake. People clamouring for Wenger to be sacked yet again, for Sanogo to be sold. Have we not learnt from the Ramsey debacle? Sigh.
Wenger does have a point – we just played 3 away games and 1 home CL game in 2 weeks. The results were not ideal, but we got through the 2 weeks unbeaten whilst qualifying for the CL.
fuck this type of post ! do you really think we have time to nurture players like sonogo ? chelsea buy costa and he hits the ground running . we buy ozil and want to give him 2 years to ” bed in ” arsenal all over !!!!
Who is “Sonogo”? I watched a talented young striker on the pitch today, putting in a good performance. This Sonogo bloke – he’s not from Togo is he?
he looked less convincing today then a cat learning trigonometry
Ramsey debacle? he showed promise before his injury sanogo has shown almost nothing.
Rubbish. He’s shown promise in most games, but like most youngsters he’s also been really poor in a few. The issue is that his 1st touch is rarely good and his confidence is low so he’s not scoring. As some have said before, if the 2 good goals he’s scored had stood instead of the officials wrongly disallowing them, he’d have had a few more goals on top. That doesn’t make him the goal machine most of us want but it doesn’t mean he’s shown nothing.
We have not learnt from Ramsey? No, we have learnt from Ramsey. But we have also learnt in recent years from Denilson, Almunia, Silvstre, Squillaci, Santos, Park (even thought he didn’t play him) and Mr Miyaichi.
We are The Arsenal, now we are financially sound we should not have just Giroud and Sonogo as an out and out strikers.
You would be correct if you’d said that we should have another CF but we have plenty of strikers.
If we lose to City and United beat Hull, they’ll be above us.
3 games gone and 4 points behind Chelsea…… I’d say they’re the benchmark this season and at 23:01 tomorrow, with no new faces, it could be time to panic juuuuuuust a little
BTW: where was Thomas Rosicky yesterday? He could have been just the man to provide some creativity and shake things up a bit.; at least at the 70 minute mark when AW usually makes his substitutions.
And why wont AW make those changes earlier in the game when things aren’t panning out? Too predictable in that respect, even when the game is crying out for substitutions AW refuses to budge.
How long before Mourinho has a very public giggle at us about Remy? We’re just setting ourselves up with antics like that.
Who cares? He’s a cunt
I care because hes a cunt!
I care and I’m a cunt…….erm
Crispy cunt…gross
Because he’s not wrong, is he? Humiliating, and it’s not like we’re likely to hammer Chelsea on the pitch in revenge either.
Yeah, the way he won the league last season with a squad worth an absolute fortune was proof that Moorinyo knows, cause thats where its at y’all
That’s not the point, is it? He hammered us last year and finished above us, and will probably win the league this year.
I agree, after that Translator cunt calling our manager “Specialist in Failure”, I thought Arsene would go out and ram it down his throat. It hurts to hear him say that then our manager hands him Cecs as a gift to win the league. With FFP The Translator can not buy his way out as much as before and we are not far behind him financially now. Our Manger goes again about not buying player but developing Sanogo with no CD or CDM. This is just crazy and humiliating, Remy was in the market for over 3 months and we… Read more »
And Chelsea won exactly what last year?
How many times do we loose out those cunts! When Ba had the good season with Newcastle itself we needed a backup to Giroud. We were lead up the garden path by them again, while trying to get Ba on loan. Now, we sat around though it was obvious that we needed an experienced backup to Giroud – Sanogo should have gone on loan! AW went around talking about poker & calling the bluff when we are the only club after a player. However we have been made to look silly. For all those who think Sanchez is the answer… Read more »
I am glad we didn’t sign Remy . He’s struck me as a Newcastle/QPR type of player and we should be looking beyond that. Chelsea have the ‘luxury’ of offloading Torres so they can afford Remey as second or third choice. Frankly I will be incredulous if we sell Campbell to Benfica and then don’t buy and persevere with Yaya. I don’t blame Sanogo. I think he will come good but it will take most of this season and we don’t have that time. He must replace TV. So it’s down to whether he can get a striker- or risk… Read more »
We’ve got 3 more years of sanogo. Get used to it.
Not sure buying players will solve anything. For the last couple of years we’re so slow in the build up. Wenger never plays with more than one winger and even then they always come inside like Alexis today and the Ox. Why cant we play the Ox on one side with Alexis on the other and also let the other team have the bal or if we’re going to play slowly at least press them high up. And why the frig is ozil playing out wide, and if sanogo scores a goal that doesn’t come off the back of his… Read more »
“Manchester City lost yesterday against Stoke and they have strikers.”
That fucking twat has the sack to compare us to Man City?
Would be borderline negligence if we didn’t at least sign a defender. Would be frustrating if we didn’t add a powerful midfielder and/or a striker to that signing too. Ideally, these positions would have been addressed before now. Come on Arsene, go for it.
we are in a panic situation ! ox .. injured . kosh ..injured . wilshire .. no faith . .. ramsey .. trying to look like beckham .. cazorla .. still smiling as he gives the ball away .. ozil .. couldn’t be arsed ! etc etc etc . all in all not the squad we would have chose with the squillions we had at our disposal once the ground had been sorted
could not agree more, we are lucky to have any points and were so close to being booted out of Europe by a bunch of cunts
bro, I haven’t seen cazorla smile in a while.
Get the trolley out and hurry to k-mart Wenger!
I’ve just been to K-Mart. All the good players have already been sold.
Since the summer of 2012 we have been trying to identify that player and until now haven’t. Seems like Wenger needs to fire our scouting department. Yes City lost yesterday and that’s why they are trying very hard to sign Falcao. But we are still looking and trying to identify. Sometimes it’s really difficult not to criticise after such a disappointing performance. We simply lacked the drive and energy to push forward with intent. We were waiting for Leicester to hand us the win. What was Podolski doing after he came on? He looked really uninterested to me. May be… Read more »
The Chavs and their cunt of a manager identify their striker, creative midfielder after Fat Frank left and defensive midfielder in one season. Went out and bought them. Gave the 50 million striker flop for free, dumped their No 1 keeper when they found younger and a better keeper. Ruthless, no messing about, it is all about the club not the Manager.
Mr Wenger PUT OUR CLUB FIRST we are not a developing school for kids or average players that might come good one day.
Much as it makes me physically sick to praise that cunt-of-cunts Maureen, I have to agree.
Arsene gives us this bullshit all the time that we only look for quality and he just can’t find any players anywhere who are better than we already have.
So Costa wasn’t good enough? Balotelli not better than Sanogo?
Here’s hoping he does have something up his sleeve after all…
Can I remind you that they have played Burnley, Leicester at home (people forget that they really played Chelsea very well) , and exploited a woefully naive and at times comic Everton defence. My regret is that we didn’t get Balotelli, but would have been a risk worth taking? Yes, Sanogo is not the finished product and needs more time; yes, it was frustrating to watch at times, but the Gunners have played five games in three weeks. This knee-jerk response to three weeks of football is the mind of people who text and tweet all day, and who have… Read more »
And not a loan deal please.
except for falcao
Agreed. A loan deal for Sanogo. He needs to go learn the goal poacher trade somewhere where the league is not demanding as this.
Lewandowski to Bayern, Immobile to Dortmund, Balotelli to Liverpool, Remy to Chelsea. All the strikers I could imagine and hoped coming to Arsenal, but didn’t. Now tomorrow we either are going to be Ozil level wow-ed, or end up not buying any strikers. Judging by how Wenger is giving things away in this interview, I’m not holding my breath. And we haven’t even gone into the other positions we glaringly lack personnel in.
How long has Remmy been available? For goodness sake I’m sure they just pretend to be after players so they can say they tried. We got the money just spend it. Enough is enough, we are turning into a joke.
If Remy is the answer, then the question must have been misunderstood.
#thenewBa
Aw was all smiles in PM interview. I don’t think I ever saw him smile so much. It was weird considering the result. Smt must be cooking.
Nope, that was the “I am convinced in my own mind that Sanogo will come good and make all of you press pack look like mugs” smile, not the “I’m buying Mesut motherfucking Ozil” smile.
Can’t wait to see Kalou in an Arsenal shirt…
I think he’s joined Hertha Berlin actually.
Yeah their cleaning staff.
Did anyone ask him what was those defensive mishaps were put down to? I bet he doesn’t think we need defensive midfielder either.
sooo disappointed we are much better than that. the leicester city players were kicking our players around and that same idiot ref from last seasons opening game didn’t give us any calls.
but enough blaming the ref all the players had horrible performances.
very frustrated.
This is one game where we really can’t blame the ref I’m afraid.
We were slow and uncharacteristically sloppy. Very lucky to get a point even given they missed a real sitter to make it 2-1.
Our transition from defense to attack is far too slow!!!
It’s pretty quick until we get there, decide against trying to score and then ‘go back’, ‘recycle possession’ and ‘build again’, the fuck are we building to?
Nail hit on the head. We don’t have a cf that can get in behind and open up play. Very slow and ponderous
2 points;
1) Sanogo is much quicker than HFB (I’m not saying he’s better just pointing out that issue).
2) The system we play is more about the supporting strikers coming in and ‘getting in behind’.
Disappointed about the result and the lack of a main striker was quite obvious! Hopefully Wenger will surprise us tomorrow… However I fear that it might not be the case.
Heard there was this one Welsh kid who had a breakout season last season and this other German with these beady eyes who can create chance after chance. Think we should go in for them…
It’s deeply unsettling that there is so little willingness by our high quality midfielders to put in a cross to sanogo. It appears they too are uncomfortable with him leading the line.
He would have scored had Ramsey squared to him. Absolutely zero wrong with Sanogo’s positioning.
I thought Sanogo had a pretty good game and I think his assist to Alexis may have been intentional. It’s tough when most of the game he had there two center backs standing either side of him.
I’ve heard of positive Gooners, but if you think that was on purpose I’ve got a few stories I’d like to tell you………
And some land in the lovely town of Chernobyl to sell you.
It definitely wasn’t intentional but the ball dropped so slowly that it was the best that could have happened.
I hope Arsene has an ace or two up his sleeve. Nearly all the players we’ve been ‘seriously’ linked with have now moved to a new club.
Ozil swap for Cavani ot Falcao and we pay 10 uon Ozil. What di you guys think?
Ozil seems to hate football in England anyway….
Fuck off
Ok. At least i fuck something….
Haha sarcasm right? Hahaha.
Wenger knows best so they say.
I used to think so, but after that wretched performance I am losing faith. The side is unwatchable with Sanogo in it. He flails around like an epileptic okapi while Podolski, with the highest ratio of goals to minutes in the team, languishes. Arsene says he’s not a forward; I say right now, who cares? I don’t care if he’s an alien from the planet mongo. play Chambers up front. koscileny, Mertesacker, Chamberlain, anyone. They all have better goal scoring records than The Spastic Giraffe. Sanogo has a first touch like a nine year old that never played football before… Read more »
I sadly fear Mr. Campbell IS on his way out.
Way out of order with those comments, the whole team were shit and the “epileptic okapi” assisted the goal. Granted he needs to improve his finishing and a loan would be the best solution but he doesn’t deserve that kind of abuse. We as a club are better than that!
Tone it down mate. He’s trying at least and as blogs points out it’s not his fault he doesn’t have the experience yet.
Turn your (understandable) anger at the real culprit: Arsene.
Campbell isn’t a CF!!!
The performance was just so uninspired and joyless, it takes the piss that we could challenge if only we signed three top players in the spine, but he refuses to go all out and strengthen. Too many midfielders and wide men but barely any defenders or strikers is poor management. I feel like he’s being quite patronising to us as well about us asking for transfers, especially if he’s trying to justify Yaya Sanogo as an Arsenal player. You can just tell if a player will be good and he just resembles the next Chamakh. It’s so frustrating.
This……the arrogance in his tone when asked about transfers & our squad strength/cover is finally starting to get to me after all these years of defending it/him
Awful performance not playing as well as we can yet def need a striker and dm don’t let us down arsene
“Manchester City lost yesterday against Stoke and they have strikers.” Is that an admission that we haven’t. It’s very difficult to rationalize what he says at the best of times, but its been obvious for two summers that a center half and striker were required, as well as a powerful and disciplined holding midfielder. Every season, now matter how promising the early stages of the window were, he leaves it to the last minute to sort out crucial positions. The squad that faced Palace should’ve been the one we are sticking with, and not being unsettled and lacking appropriate attacking… Read more »
William carvalho would be great signing as DM and cover for defence, another striker to fill in for giroud
I’m all for the little guy, the underdog, the kid with something to prove.
But Sanogo can’t
*continue to lead the line at Arsenal until January
Sorry, pressed publish too soon
“Something to prove”……this is what kills me with Wenger & people defending Sanogo. Ramsey had “something to prove” bc of the talent he showed BEFORE his injury. Jack has “something to prove” bc of the talent he showed before the injury problems. Sanogo has nothing to prove bc he has NEVER shown a glimmer of the promise the other youngsters have. I don’t buy the “Wenger sees him everyday” nonsense bc even the most raw youngsters will show flickers of potential. All YaYa has shown is that he is tall & moves around a lot. Gimme a break Arsene &… Read more »
just finished watching the game on delay and I can’t say anything positive about this side. We have reverted to this god-awful tedious build-up play where most of the options are to pass backwards. Player looking more like a bunch of individuals than a team, based on the start of this season we won’t winning anything this year and the top four will be a struggle. That said, we’ve been here before too many seasons and I’ve seen Arsenal find their groove and kick onwards, hopefully we emerge from the interlull a revived team. Don’t think new players are the… Read more »
At one point there were like 3 players in midfield going for the same ball. Seems like, teams like everton have better ball control than we do. Time to play Rosicky, the only player who understands our tactics, drop either Cazorla or Ozil and dont play them down the flank. dont bother with the Ox, bring on young Jack as a sub. Start Poldi, sub him with Sanogo if we’re leading. In the voice of Gary Oldman from Leon* SIGN EVERRRRYYYYONE!
Sanogo is as shit as shit!
Bad times. Sell Poldi, loan out Sanogo, sign a world-class CF get in a proper DM and add cover for CB. Everyone can see the holes!! Wake up Arsenal football club. Sick to death of watching a thread bare team not reaching it’s full potential.
Sanogo is not the man to lead the Arsenal front line.
It is really frustrating to hear some Wenger thoughts at times. I wonder what he sees that we fans fail to see and vice versa.
the player for 7 days a week, compared to the 90 mins we get?
But it’s the 90 minutes that count.
Forget nogoal sanogo, go to Swansea and buy bony, just what we need
I hope the down votes were bc if the childish Sanogo insult & not the Bony shout. He is exactly what we need & can realistically afford (Falcao out of price range). He offers the flicks/hold up that Giroud does, plus a bit more offensive heading & shooting.
Wish we’d got Babytelli
Most of the opposition supporters wish we’d got him as well.
Just what we need a stroppy (but talented) player in the squad.
I’ll be surprised if we end up with more than one signing tomorrow. Most likely a CM who can potentially play at CB. There’s no strikers coming.
With any luck, we’ll get Carvalho, who at least might stop us getting hammered by the big teams, even if we can’t score for toffee!
Why would any top player sign with Arsenal right now? With Yaya Sanogo leading the line, the team won’t win. ever. He can’t score. He won’t score and unless you score, you can’t win. Perhaps Arsenal need to do what Liverpool did and plunge to midtable so they can have the teams faults made so obvious that something would have to be done. Arsenal were utterly outplayed by a newly promoted Leicester City side. Leicester worked hard, took their chances, and nearly won. Arsenal by contrast fielded a weak side (any side with Yaya Sanogo in it is weak) that… Read more »
So you’re suggesting that a top player wouldn’t sign for us because Sanogo is leading the line? Suppose it was a top striker who was going to sign for us, thus taking Sanogo’s place in the team. Problem solved. Solid logic.
Hello brain. If you were let say William Carvhallo who would you join. Yaya Sanogos arsenal or RVP, Rononey or Falcaos Utd?
If he knows anything about football then he’d look at the rest of their squad and come to us !
Seriously Wenger needs to stop doing things the hard way and make life easier for himself. The dude is incredible and can make miracles with this average squad – yes, average because let’s face it, only Sanchez and Özil would get into any other top European team – so why does he not give himself the tools to succeed? If only he buys the players he really wants (the Cavani types), I genuinely believe the sky is the limit to what we can achieve.
No mention of our usual ‘MOTM’ players?
To those talking about Lewandowski and Balotelli, Lewandowski deal was done 18 months ago. Balotelli would’ve been an exciting gamble but he is also quite wasteful, not the clinical finisher people say we need. Immobile and Mandzukic are not much better than Giroud, and we’ve been linked with Remy since 09-10. Clearly there’s something about him that Wenger doesn’t like. However I do feel that we can definitely upgrade on Sanogo and Campbell. It’s one thing waiting to get your perfect target (Suarez, Reus, etc) but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t strengthen at all. The team will definitely be fitter… Read more »
Thank you. Some perspective. Honestly, the whining on this board has depressed me more than the actual game
Honestly, I don’t think we need a striker at all. Last year, we managed with only Giroud and this year we have brought in. Walcott is coming back as well. Problem is not striker, problem is something else. Why is Ozil not in the center? Why is podolski not playing on the left wing? If wenger doesn’t like podolski and campbell on the wing then we need a winger otherwise all our attacks will be one sided. And above all, why the hell are we so slow? Don’t we have joel campbell and sanchez in the squad?? My thoughts, cazorla… Read more »
You obviously have not seen Chelsea playing! If they put 6 behind us with the team they had last year, what is going to happen when we meet them this year?
I think it is a new low when neutrals start saying Chelsea play a more attractive football than Arsenal!!!
It’s an absolute fucking insult to suggest that the call for a new striker is because we don’t win a game here and there.
Many have known we have needed another top quality striker for the past two seasons and the world and his wife seem to agree we can’t mount a challenge for major honours without.
He may yet prove people wrong and do what we need in the market but if he don’t then the emirates will turn. Fans are not as stupid as Arsene seems to think they are.
Am not the guy that argues with Wenger on anything… Be it transfers, features, tactics, etc… But even the blind will see that we need re-inforcements… I think we had a bit of bad luck today… If that equaliser hadnt gone in when it did, we probably would have won this game comfortably. Because they would’ve attacked alot more in the second half and that would’ve opened up space to poach… And please dont downplay this Leceister team… The Chavs had to play an entire first half before puting one past them in the 2nd… And that happened after alot… Read more »
Problem for me isn’t really signings. I mean we do need new players for sure but should a midfield of Ramsey, Özil and Cazorla really struggle to break down a newly promoted team? We play way too slow, WAY TOO SLOW and that’s not gonna change until Wenger changes his game plan. The big physical striker as a focal point shit we’ve been doing is not only boring as fuck to watch but its also the reason we play so slowly as we don’t have someone with pace making runs and pulling defenders. It makes us so predictable and stale… Read more »
Great point here on the players Özil has to pass to–do Arsenal have any players who would have started for the Real Madrid teams Özil played on? He’s gone from C. Ronaldo to . . . Sanogo. I want to see more from Özil as well (we could start by playing him in the middle), but nearly every game he makes at least one unbelievable pass that, most of the time, no one is on the other end on or they are and trip over the ball.
cranky, but undeniable. you make a lot of good points. the last two seasons are the first time in my life of supporting Arsenal that I have actually become bored by the pace of the buildup. Jeez, SO. DAMN. SLOW.
And how “quick” is quick? Man city played Stoke “quickly” and lost. Everton played Chelsea “quickly” and lost. I think that you mean decisively, not quickly. They had twenty-three chances and couldn’t do anything with them; what they needed were people shooting and hitting the target, putting away their chances.. There are days like that, and there are days when they fly in. They got back from an exhausting game midweek, have played five games in three weeks, and yes, miss decisive strikers, and outlets –one of whom is getting fit, heo Walcott — that right now Sanogo is not,… Read more »
New contract signed, looks like the old Arsene is back for the next 3 years. I expect a snide reference from Mou during the interlull to spice things up. If we actually don’t address the glaring deficiencies in this team by tomorrow then I believe the speciaist in failure tag will be a lot more deserved. We do have the funds required this time unlike before
The f**k is Sanogoal doing near the first team!!! He sure has the potential but he is no way ready to be given the responsibility to lead the line for a big club as Arsenal. Sign that lethal striker Arsene.
I really don’t know why all your anger goes to Sanogo. What Ramsey did? What cazorla did? What our midfielders did? Yes we desperately need a striker but i don’t think it was lack of a striker the problem today. We didn’t create nothing. Ramsey and cazorla every time had to many touches. Sometimes we could se that everyone wanted a ball. I just don’t get it why Rosicky and Campbell don’t get a chance. Especially Rosicky, he always make our game better. He wants to play fast, Cazorla and Ramsey doesn’t. Our build up is to slow, that is… Read more »
You cannot lay blame on Ramsey.
He had one bad game for the Arsenal..
Sanogo has not had one good game….
I don’t lay blame on him. I blame everyone, especially all midfielders. I point him out because we want more from him, he isn’t as good as last year. He had bad games against CP, Besiktas, Everton and today also. But against CP he saved us he has something. I just want him to play better and what is he showing this season isn’t good enough. i think Only Nacho, Debuchy, Chambers proved something until now. Nobody is at his best atm. But i want Wenger to give a chance to Rosicky and Campbell. We can’t wait Ramsey, Ozil, Wilshere,…… Read more »
And you can’t blame sonogo either, wenger picks the team he signed him and deemed him ready and good enough to lead our attack. Lay the blame where it belongs at the feet of wenger and not the player. The kid worked hard and tried his best the fact he isn’t good enough yet isn’t his fault.
Sanogo had a good game today. Watch it again.
I also think Sanogo had a good game. Not excellent but good, solid. He doesn’t deserve this critics.
If you’re a striker, you score.
Sanogo didn’t and hasn’t.
That’s not good.
One of the comments on NBC Sports was that Arsenal tend to over-elaborate its buildup.
I get the feeling that Wenger’s desire to place faith in his players and prove everyone wrong is greater than doing what is best for the club. Mourinho or Ferguson or any other manager who has achieved considerable success would never persist with a player who is clearly not good enough to play for Arsenal. Would Mourinho put faith in Sanogo and Giroud ? No, he would go out and buy Costa, Remy and Fabregas. Wenger is just happy to watch the world go by and try to implant his misinformed opinion on the rest of us.. Arsenal will be… Read more »
Sanogo is a cross between Emile Heskey and Colton Cole.
Who is Colton Cole?
And we have to live with these abusive fans, too.
So someone tell me if I am wrong..why should we keep,squillaci- 35k a week
bendthner-52k a week
park young- 40k a week
arshavin – 75k a week
chamakh- 60k a week
there were several deadwoods on our books who weren’t playing but we paid them silly money.
SO,why can’t we pay over the odds for a top class striker for once… Wenger, a slight loss in our revenue wouldn’t matter if WE WIN THE LEAGUE
Arshavin could be a decent player when he put his mind to it. The rest you mentioned were shit.
I thought Sanogo looked good today. But I guess I’m not as much of an expert as all the other professional critics on here.
Bobby…. That’s humour isn’t it ?
Glad to have some intelligent company. He did so much good stuff today, but the commentators and fans needed a target, and he was such an easy one.
I challenge anyone to watch the game again, and fill out a pros and cons sheet with what he did right and wrong. Some of his trapping, passing and dribbling was incredibly sharp. He’s got very good feet, but he’s obviously raw and that’s something we can all agree on. I’m starting to think he could be a real star once he gets better service.
I get that he’s wearing the shirt and deserves our support but come on, he can’t be our only option to lead the line. The pressure that puts him under is just not fair and he’s nowhere good enough right now and we can’t afford as a club to wait for him to become the answer.
Totally agree, he didn’t play as bad as some people say, but he will bear the brunt of the stick because of our need for quality up front
. I feel sorry for the bloke and arsene is just hanging him to dry like he did with the kids we played against Man U that time of the 8.2. He ain’t ready that’s clear but it’s not to say he never will be but if arsene persists in playing the bloke when he’s not yet upto it then he could destroy him for good.
Your ironic jeu d’esprit failed.
I don’t even think Sanchez played badly today, he did what he does (which is run around) and even managed to score. Özil can’t and won’t come good until we learn to play faster, which seems an odd thing to say considering he slows down the game a lot but Madrid play way faster than we do and he shined for them so… Also doesn’t make him look any better as a slow player playing in a slow team, in fact it makes his look quite shit which is unfair really. Ramsey now needs to remember his role as a… Read more »
