We bounced back from midweek misery to weekend wonderfulosity (yes, it’s a word) with a controlled 3-0 win over Aston Villa at Villa Park. Here’s how the players rated.
PLEASE NOTE: We’ve changed the system slightly, you rate each player then click the ‘Cast Vote’ button down at the bottom, rather than voting for each player individually.

Wanted 3 pts, and thats what we got.
Didn’t see the game, but looking forward to the highlights tonight and delighted for Ozil & Danny. Lets hope they & the team can build from here, got some tasty games coming up.
Ozil was wORLD cLAss…the space he made for the first ….and the inch perfect pass for the second…no tracking back for him please….He made the whole team CHILL OUT for the second half single handedly ……………………………….the ultimate No 10……………………………………………………

Ellis and John?
Was watching the game in the library because the internet in my house wasn’t working. When Ozil scored I instinctively stood up, pulling the head phones out of the computer, and blaring the screaming Arsenal fans and commentary through the library… Was worth the embarrassment seeing Mesut slide it past Guzan.
0 – Villa’s trying to attack. Damn!
we have two Szczesny’s now!? Can the other one play DM?
I thought one already does.
Diabolical defending rom Callum indeed. At least in the readers’ minds 😉
At least his rating went up from 6.66 when I wrote that comment. More of a little devil then.
I’m glad AW finally gave in and changed personnel and tactics. Badly needed. That was the 42M pound Özil we all know and love. Go on, Mesut. I hope Ramsey can find some form soon. He still manages to make an impact (key passes in the buildup to all of the goals today), but he’s really making some simple errors. He’s not alone, mind you. Speaking of which, I enjoyed seeing Mert give to Ramsey for THAT “pass” and then pat him on the back. And another nice performance for Welbeck, and he got his reward. He’s starting to fit… Read more »
“Bonus rating: 10/10 – the way Arsenal pressed Villa high up the pitch in the second half, forcing them into errors which gave us the ball back and the ability to control the game.”
We learnt from midweek, the hard way aha!
Özil goes back go the “centre” (as blogs has been pointing out he actually drifts a lot and has a free role) and produces a MOM performance. It was a wonder too watch, after the first goal all of a sudden the players just gained this aura and this confidence which has been lacking so many times this season… The switch back to 4-2-3-1 had to happen and was immediately apparent from the first whistle went and Ramsey dropped deep and was in between Arteta and Özil and also was behind Arteta at times even getting the ball. Yes his… Read more »
I thought ox put a decent shift in. I liked the 1-2s with chambers.
was one of our better performers, 6.5 is harsh
Szczney have been so consistent for us.
Apart from his cockiness to do something crazy in some games, i think we should give him more credit.
I can’t recall how many games he saved us at nil nil so that we can build on his save to win a game.
I don’t see ospina getting that number 1 spot anytime soon.
wouldn’t mind us playing the rest of our games at villa park. Arsenal haven’t lost there since Chambers was three years old!!!
I’m seeing Double here… Four Szczesnys!
Who am I clowning? I have no business being a clown.
I’m leaving the clowning business to the other clowns in the clowning business.

We are The Arsenal! Now for some consistency and we’ll be challenging for the title. TR7 was a beauty to watch. Can’t wait to see him bossing the midfield against Soton.
Great to see a bit of rotation in the team. Ox needed to start and Jack needed a rest. Hopefully we will see Ramsey at his best soon and Campbell is still yet to get a run out. Important games coming up need to keep the lads fresh.
More like it… Up the arse!!!
Mesut Ozil for President!!
As if scoring 2 goals in 2 minutes wasn’t cool enough for them, they now did it better- 3 in 3! Guess I should wait 4 a 4 in 4
Big 3 points and very nice to actually relax while watching final 45 minutes. Standout performances from Mesut and Danny, each worthy of MOTM distinction. That said, the first 30 minutes should not be forgotten. While Rambo’s engine is remarkable and he causes the opposition problems in myriad ways, his passing, finishing, and most-worrying, decision-making are not even vaguely reminiscent of 2013-14 Welsh Jesus. And while Mikel looked fine during the low-energy, low-drama second half, he seemed very shaky early on; the lack of pace and physical prowess is such a disadvantage. Nice for Alexis to get a breather today,… Read more »
First half before the goals, Villa pressed Arteta very hard nearly 3 players around his passing range as soon as he receives the ball. He had no choice but to back it back to Per or Chambers or Kosc at best. And it’s quite apparent that he is the key in our play. When a team does apply that tactic, one of our midfield (all of whom love to stay way up) has to drop deep to collect ball from him. People bagging Arteta really doesn’t pay attention to his passing and distribution. He needs support from our other midfielders… Read more »
BB6, I agree! I thought the Ox was excellent today, surprised his rating was so low. I’m not sure of his ball retention stats, but he worked his arse off closing down high up, also had a massive block on one of the villa players after Ramsey put the ball out for THAT corner.
I gave Welbeck a bonus point for not being a picture of Bendtner in the ratings anymore – also, because the goal was nice. Everybody plays better when they feel confident, and you could see when the attempt against Man City didn’t go in that he was about to be just supremely confident, and instead he was a little deflated. This win was good for the entire team, but I think the goals coming from Ozil and Welbeck were especially encouraging.
So happy that Mesut Ozil got a goal and an assist. Quality stuff, the Ozil haters should just shut up and support the players, not just the players but the all team. Forward Gunners #COYG 🙂
I don’t agree with the Szcezny rating nor the Arteta rating. Szc always looks suspect with his Messi impression, trying to dribble his way out if trouble as well as his distribution. Every game he seems to give the ball away to the opposition which leads to a good chance for the opposition. Luckily, Villa sucks balls so we weren’t punished. However, we were punished against Man City for his poor kicks. As for Arteta, he was suspect today. The passing stats are not reliable because the second half was just a training exercise. Never have i seen a team… Read more »
Fantastic performances by Welbeck and Ozil. Ramsey looked a bit knackered, perhaps he can get a rest in favor of Wilshere? Also, Cazorla might’ve been a bit quiet, but even when he isn’t brilliant offensively, he still gets the job done defensively. I really prefer Cazorla on the left and Ozil in the middle, and Cazorla’s defensive hustling is one of the reasons. The other reason is that Ozil is instantly MotM the moment he shines. Bloody hell. He can be totally out of form in one second and in the next he’s passing the ball around as if he’s… Read more »
Is called world class. Football is like music and you can play with your eyes closed
Ramsey not hitting the form of last season yet IMO and getting some slack from some fans is due to the fact he’s not adhering to the same position as last year when he would break up play from deeper and then join attacks and get into the box later…this season (maybe with the formation we were using) he seems to want to be constantly attacking and being one of the focal points of our attack leaving us outnumbered in midfield and also taking away one of his best qualities….arriving late into the box usually unmarked and getting at the… Read more »
George Graham out…
I can’t believe more people aren’t on Özil for his laid-back strike. 🙂 COYG!!!!
The man has zero chalance
Finally a win!
We just need Ozil playing like this consistently and against big teams
I hope we don’t run Özil to the ground now. Rest him in the capital one cup.
well done to the whole squad. Thought Gibbs would have a higher rating – underrated performance.
More of that please from Mesut.
The best part is we got to rest a few players including Sanchez.
Theo won’t be much longer either!!!
COYG!
Welbeck is a worker. Have to respect that. Hopefully he can put together some goals on the back of today’s confidence boost.
Am I the only one dissapointed that welbeck scored today? I was desperate for his first to be against Southampton on Tuesday. 😉
All today was missing was Özil making a tackle.
I’ve never doubted him as a first choice but as he really doesn’t get a foot in he should play no 10 in the centre. At least Jack would work more on the left. Also, Özil really can tuck them away when he doesn’t have anyone to pass to! Just play him at no 10!!
He did
Much better, a glimpse of what we can do. Need to carry it on till the Spuds at home though …
Till?? We gunner smash dem spuds.
Welbz was the player we were all crying for when Giroud wasn’t getting to those positions. And he’s young enough to up his game.
IMAGINE ALL THOSE ManUre fans seeing Welbeck tucking them away when Falcao and you know who are injured all season. And Rooney’s a fat cunt.
Interesting little fact that I just heard on an evening sports show: Ozil actually ran more than any other Arsenal player today as well, with 11,3km. That is quite a distance!
It would be incredible if he could maintain this excellent level.
Great to see Ozil make some lung-bursting runs to get into good attacking positions. Also, having a laugh after he shanked one late in the first half. Great stuff to see the lads happy again.
I wonder why Lambert bothered with the trip to Dortmund. Doesn’t look like he learnt anything, besides some half-hearted pressing in the first half. Should have saved the dosh and bought his missus something, at least then he would have scored (maybe). All that talk two seasons ago about how Lambert was one of the young managers to watch. Pfft. Now we know it was all down to Benteke’s form that season (remember him?).
And the Hammers trashing Liverpuddle. Ha ha. Brenda played a 4-3-1-2. Tactical genius my arse. And Jenkinson played 30 minutes. Can today get any better? 😀
And Guardiola taking the piss against Hamburger SV. Lahm and Hojbjerg at DM. Muller as CAM, Alaba at LW, and Pizarro ahead of Lewandowski. Ha ha! What a bonkers day.
It’s not about where Ozil plays huh?
I’m in love with Gibbs! so underrated. He absolutely owns that left side and you can immediately see the difference between him and Monreal. It’s like the whole team are more confident and assured whenever he’s playing.
I like them both, and I generally find our left back position well covered. It’s simply not an area I worry about at all, as long as either Monreal or Gibbs is available. If we had that kind of coverage everywhere, injuries would rarely be an issue.
Couple of observations: 1. Arteta deserves to have a 7 today. Yes a couple of nervy moments which led the crowd to moan and probably formed an impression, but he was marshalling the team brilliantly today. Villa dropped deep when we had the ball, and Arteta was often marked by both Agbonlahor and another Villa MF. But as the game progressed, got smarter with finding space and sometimes drew these players away to allow Kos to push forward and play directly to Ozil/Cazorla 2. Lots of smart runs by Ramsey/Ox/Gibbs/Ozil in the games but sadly not spotted by people with… Read more »
Welbeck and Ozil were excellent. I would like to touch more on Welbeck’s performance. I am surprised when we bought him, but after 3 matches. I am really excited about his prospect at Arsenal. He has all the qualities of a striker at Arsenal. Quick, mobile, willing to shoot, strong technical abilities and can hold the ball. This is the type of striker we fans were asking for. Our midfield with the likes of Ozil, Cazorla. Ramsey, Wilshere will always create chances for Welbeck to finish off. I won’t be surprise if Welbeck would end the season with 15-20 goals.… Read more »
He’s looking like a proper bargain at this point.
Welbeck was a 9 at least. Lovely work on the ball and defended like a storm trooper. Cant wait to see him, Ox, Ramsey and Sanchez play together. The pressing will be incredible. Van Gaal should be sacked for letting him go.
I think 6.5 for Ramsey is to optimistic rating. He needs to be benched for a game or two. We can’t afford to wait him to be back at his best. I am afraid it will be to late. And Ozil I was over the moon when he scored. He just needs to play at CAM and have freedom he wants. But I will take more cons than pros in this game. Only Welbeck, Ozil (and their link-up), Gibbs were about the level we want. We should had crushed Villa. We would need that. I don’t know why we always… Read more »
We’re still undefeated. Any chance that […]
His deft lay-off to Welbeck for our first goal was a touch of pure and utter class.
Wenger: “we have quality on the wings” …….you’re damn right we do!
In many ways Szczesny was MOTM. But for his save it would’ve started 1-0. And the morale would’ve been “same ole Arsenal”.
Ozil is a no. 10 … a defensive liability on the wings, especially with a slow Arteta in the DM position.
Our best attack is:
Welbeck/ st
Cazorla … Ozil … Alexis
Today’s performance was exactly what we needed. Özil especially brought a smile to my face, though I’m elated for Danny-Boy too!
