Arsenal fans worst fears over Mathieu Debuchy have been confirmed today after it was confirmed the Frenchman had surgery on his ankle last Friday.
Debuchy tore ligaments in an awkward fall during the 2-2 draw against Man City and it was hoped that he wouldn’t require an operation. However, it seems he went under the knife last week and will spend the next three months out of the game.
Arsene Wenger said, “He has had surgery and will be out for three months. A reasonable delay is three months. All went well. It can be a week earlier or later, but it’ll be around 3 months.
“It is a blow of course, how big it will be we will only know afterwards because it will be down to how well we replace him.”
In the meantime Calum Chambers will continue to deputise, while fellow youngster Hector Bellerin is expected to get the nod for tomorrow’s Capital One Cup tie without Southampton.
shit
The perfect emotion
Year in year out, Arsenal seems have a title winning side worth of players out injured…
Damn you, Injury Gods, damn you!
*Shakes fist at sky*
It’s a right back curse. We lost Sagna with 2 broken leg injuries covering over a season.
Also Chambers is already only One booking from his first ban.
Hector your big chance is here and now
I am a little more concerned with the left back position, relying on Gibbs to stay healthy. Could be worse. Look at the injuries and suspensions at ManU where they are going to be forced to put Rojocard in as center-back with Shaw finally getting a game on the left.
Bollocks.
Fuck.
“…tie without Southampton” lol
I guess we’ll just have to start without them ^^ We’ll still probably concede a goal or two 😀
Who’ll get the first attack we concede from if there is no opposition?……………
Dude…
chill on the greens my friend lol
Bellerin better Up it FAST
Balls
We should call back Jenkinson!
Does anyone know if we have this option?
I believe year-long loans generally do not have this option. If the loan is for a couple of months, the borrowing club has to have someone else ready anyway, so it doesn’t make too much of a difference. But with a year long loan, they generally won’t have a replacement available, so they wouldn’t accept a recall option in the deal.
Here it states that we do not have that option, unfortunately
http://www.claretandhugh.info/wenger-cannot-recall-jenkinson-despite-injury-crisis/
he is hurt too. You can’t make this stuff up.
He played vs Loserpool last week.
Wenger better sign an Injury god this January.. Else #WengerOUT
Not good news at all. TV5 should not have been allowed to leave (agreement or not) until a replacement had been lined up. I know he is a CB but at least then we would have had cover there so that Chambers could cover the RB position.
Nothing that we can do about it until January so fingers crossed one of our bright young prospects steps up and wows us all. We can but hope!
We’ll survive through unscathed. We always do.
We’ll survive… Whether it will be unscathed is a different story…
both Flamini and Arteta need to be sat for Tuesday. We’ll need Flamini to be available for the FB positions in the league games. Diaby and maybe Coq can be CMs for Tuesday.
Almost worth going out to soton rather than losing more potential defenders with a long cup run in a tournament that few clubs take seriously anyway.
Never good to lose but the thought of more injuries to any players could cost us in what could be a very open premier league this year
We can let the Capital One Cup be purely for the youths, reserves, players on bench and back from injury people.
Will give those players ample opportunity for exposure or increasing match sharpness.
Not great news but sure Bellerin and Chambers can cover it.
Are we allowed to get Jenks back?….I didn’t think so. Sod’s law, Jenks must be gutted at this missed opportunity to kick start his career at the club he supports.
Part, and parcel of a football season. We can moan about the lack of cover, or activity in the market at the tail end knowing our situation, but it does us no good. Chambers has to do a job, hector has to do a job, nacho will have to do a job. This is the stuff that brings teams together. We can’t sulk, we gotta push on. It’s very simple really as long as we play as a unit and trust one another they’re should be little worry. The attack looks to be becoming fully functional. At some point were… Read more »
Where are you in Virginia, Goon? I’m in Roanoke. Let me know if you’re close by–we Gooners got to stick together. . ..
Well shitty Damn…speedy recovery my friend, you were in great form up to the injury, wish you well.
I don’t understand why we would start chambers. Bellerin is quicker and didn’t play that bad at Dortmund
Corporal Jenkinson is pissed right now. a 3 month run in the first team at Arsenal.
Everytime we get an injury it always seems to be the work possible outcome.
You do realise we’d be much, much worse off if one of Mertescielny was injured? At least we have Chambers and Bellerin for right back. This definitely not the worst possible outcome.
Everytime we get an injury it always seems to be the worst possible outcome.
Hope Debuchy’s recovery goes well. Unfortunately, given that its us, we all knew what the outcome would be given our injury “luck”. And ofcourse when the club confirm 3 months out, that will mysteriously become 4 or so.
nc.
Was this a case of them waiting to release this statement until we’d had a positive win? It doesn’t make it any better…
Felt real sad and close to tears reading this. I will miss him. He has filled the Sagna gap beautifully – in fact, I rate him as an upgrade on Sagna especially on his offensive play.
Wish him speedy recovery and I hope the boys will keep us in the mix for him and Giroud. If the boys are playing well and winning games, it can give them a psychological boost and desire to be part of it. This aids the healing process.
See you in the Christmas fixtures…
No more defensive injuries PLEASE!
And the best form of defence is….. attack attack attack!!!
Are you suggesting an experiment with the Kevin Keegan 0-0-10 formation?
Huh. Didn’t realise Brendan Rodgers was a gooner.
@virginagoon….that’s waaaaaaay to rational for the internet 😉
Surely we need to get someone on a free? Yobo anyone?
So both Debuchy & Monreal are out. Funny that, footballers getting injured..
Thankfully, we have the most experienced manager in the league with nearly 20 yrs of service. His forward thinking has made sure the squad has the required depth to cope with hicupps like these. Up the arse!
Heal fast lads. Heal fast.
Young ones, now’s your chance to prove your quality.
I really hope that Bellerin ceases this opportunity by the scruff of the balls. And please no more injuries.
seizes* Crap!
that’s not the only thing wrong with your post duno :-). check your balls and see if there is a scruff.
I guess you might find one but the point remains.
It is hilarious reading utter rubbish comments from people like goon and glocken
Well balls, the nightmare did come through..
Whoopdee fucking doo!
So is it really our training issue then? RVP periannlaly injured with us except for final season, doing quite well with Man U, similar with Fab (both Cesc & Fabianski), new sigings like Ozil, now Debuchy have all suffered!
Hope Syed gets to the bottom of this mystery like Fedrick Forsyth does in his novels.
In fairness, RVP got injured quite a bit last season. Could have just been a rare patch of fitness for him.
We managed to go an entire match without a new injury on Saturday. The curse has been broken!
“Three months eh?” Christmas cheer – “Debuchy is three more weeks.” Mid January – “Debuchy had a little setback in training.” Early of February – “Debuchy is back in full training again but lacks a little bit the sharpness.” End February – “Debuchy is maybe two more weeks.” Mid March – “Debuchy got a kick on his ankle while away on international duty with France. Ironically it was Diaby he clashed with. It was a total accident and Diaby hurt himself too in the tackle. It looks sore but we will wait for Debuchy’s scan next week.” Don’t expect him… Read more »
When I was a kid, around 1979-80, it seemed like we always got through 70-game seasons with a squad of about 12 players (Steve Walford on the bench, just in case someone got actually killed).
and four centre backs Adams, Bould, Keown and Linnigan
Shit and fuck!
This is some sad shit. Bad luck couldn’t be more pure if it came from the devils rib. I wish you a speedy recovery debuchy.
I’ve got an idea.
As we’ve got a glut of attacking, creative midfielders, and as we have a manager who’s a genius and the greatest of all time, why don’t we just convert Ozil and Sanchez into defenders? After all, we did spend a combined total of more than 70 million quid on them.
That way we don’t have to splash out anything on full-backs, not even next January when the transfer window opens. We never did need new defensive players anyway: six was plenty enough to get us through a season where we’re fighting for four trophies.
Simple, eh?
your usually better than that!
Ahem, you’re*
Scrapping the bottom of the barrel now, I see.
Paul, try O’leary and Young with Adams coming through.
FOOOOOOOOK! But he was so elegant and sexy 🙁
tomorrow line up:
Ospina
berellin-per-hayden-coq
diaby-flamini
rosicky
ox-cambell-podolski
Chambers is now a precious commodity backing up several key areas.
Bellerin should get a nod tomorrow.
Also Campbell, Diaby, Rosciky and Podolski.
Coquelin is on the periphery. Would be interesting if Wenger does field him. He needs to make a statement this season as he his one foot out of the door as is. Could have been kept for utility in evntuality we have to cover fullbacks in injury.
Install Chambers in the pope mobile, stat
