The standout feature of Arsenal’s comfortable 3-0 victory against Aston Villa was undoubtedly the slick combination play between Mesut Ozil and Danny Welbeck that resulted in two quick-fire goals.
Each player assisted the other, each nonchalantly applied a clinical finishing touch. Things clicked and as our German World Cup winner said after the game, the new boy’s pace helps simplify the Gunners game.
“I think when you assess [Welbeck’s] pass, it was really well timed,” Ozil told Arsenal Player of the build-up to his 32nd minute strike.
“He saw me and played me through to finish. I didn’t have to do that much because I was one-on-one against the goalkeeper and made sure that I stayed ice-cold in front of goal – that was that.
“When you analyse [Welbeck’s] game, you notice that he makes a lot of runs and knows where he needs to be. We’re pleased to have a striker like him here. He makes the game simpler for us through his runs and speed.
“[On Saturday] he proved again that he is very dangerous in front of goal and personally, I’m happy for him because in recent games, he missed a few chances. Things worked really well for him on Saturday and that’s why I’m pleased for him.”
In the temporary absence of Olivier Giroud it bodes well for the future.
Ozil also took the time to thank the travelling Gooners who heartily sang his name at Villa Park…while also reminding our dear neighbours that they sold a quite-good-at-football-monkey-like-fellow to a club in Spain.
“When you know that your own fans are behind you, that gives you self-belief and encouragement,” said the 25-year-old.
“I’m generally very satisfied. I think when you assess after the game and see that you have scored and made a goal, you’re relieved and very pleased.
“I’d like to praise the whole team again, who really supported me, and especially the fans who were very loud. I want to thank the fans, who were really behind me and support the whole team so well.”
There will of course be another chance to remind Sp*rs of Daniel Levy’s transfer activity during next weekend’s North London derby and a chance to revel in the dubious professional choices of Mauricio Pocchetino’s dear mama.
Hehehe finally the big mouth bitches in the media have shut up after an awesome performance. Life is good for a few days.
Hey Mesut, do you mean Giroud made the game tougher for the team? Am confused, I need clarity.
You’re not confused, you’re an idiot.
Hope that helped.
No need to be hostile.
Chill out Dunbar.
Hi Dunbar, why do I have this feeling that you are just a bitter humanoid trying to spread your negative energy all over?
@Panther: right, unlike you, who is spreading glorious heaven-like optimism. Go troll elsewhere, ok?
As opposed to yourself, a positive feline?
Wait. What happened to Tim Sherwood?
Have Sp*rs installed a revolving door at their place as well?
Great to hear the away fans are getting behind him. Support your players and they play better – who’d have thought? Some other “supporters” should take note.
I think a lot of people learnt their lesson after Gervinho and Ramsey.
Unfortunately there are still many who have yet to understand the impact that we as fans can have on our own players confidence and thus performance.
Ice Cold Oz.

Hopefully that goal and assist will kickstart Özils season and start to silence his critics!!
It will. I’d give it until mid November until everybody starts freaking out. The teams still figuring each other out, Özil will be just fine, Welbeck will be just fine. They guy I’m starting to worry about is Welsh Jesus. It may just be my opinion but he apparently thinks he can pull of a rockstar type play 10 times a game at this point. My man needs to just chill out, and let the game come to him. Can’t really fault him as he’s assisted and taken his chances so far into the erarly season. Still it pains me… Read more »
Somethine is unrelated re Afobe. Have you people noticed how Benik is totally ripping up that league? Is that he is starting to mature or simply that he has found his level outside of the premier league? i really wish he’d fulfill his potential on the right side of North London. I am happy for him wherever he is.
Sorry for the autocorrect. i meant something unrelated re; Afobe
Afobe can work in a direct side and in the championship. His lack of technical ability is glaring in Arsenal’s style of play.
Özbeck
iz tantamount to a good pun

As long as it isn’t ‘SWAG’….
What’d the song go like?
To the chorus tune of Inspiral Carpets ‘This Is How It Feels’
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-fX0UbpZls
How does it feel to be Tottenham?
How does it feel to be small?
You sold Bale, we signed Mezut Özil
Mezut Özil, Mezut Özil
Hopefully Ozil can kick on from here, performance like that should get his confidence back.
But I hope we don’t see him playing in the Capital One Cup, don’t burn him out again Arsene, please.
He sounds like a person who like to analyze and assess stuffs XD
Our away fans seem to be better than the ones at home.. were they singing Giroud’s song during the Villa game?
The way the second half panned out at Villa, songs were sung not only for Giroud but we went through the whole back catalogue including TH14, Vieira, DB10 and back to Rocky Rocastle. If only every second half could be like that.
Yeah, the away fans were really rolling out the greatest hits in the second half.
What’s going on with Debuchy?! I thought we were meant to hear on Friday.
Ozil picked the perfect weekend to show his stuff:
He scores
He assists
Welbeck scores
Welbeck assists
Sp@rs lose
Man U lose
Everton lose
Liverpool lose, AND
10 Man City bring on Lampard to tie things up!! AND
Hamilton wins! !
This weekend we’ll have the joy of hammering Spurs, and the biyearly destruction of the USA in the Ryder cup! Marvelous
*After 7-0 demolition of Sp*rs this weekend
‘Arsene, how pleased are you that Welbeck, Walcott and Wilshere sealed the game for you after only 8 minutes?’
“Look, I am a big fan of the World Wide Web, and today we uploaded a virus in the anus of Mauricio Pochettino”
Stupid.
Next Game Onwards i ll be singing his NAME as loud as i can at home..
yeah my neighbours can send me to jail….Am going to sing even there
Özil…Özil….Özilllll!!!!!!!!!
Arsenal<3
Sanogo’s a no go now… I’ll just get my hat
get your coat and a decent sense of humor too! lol
You don’t mean Yaya’s a no go ?
Hate to give that lot credit, but Welbeck is well-schooled. He has ability and makes smart runs.
I knew that about him but did not know he could make a through ball like that though. Like Mesut said, it was perfectly weighted.
No need to slate Giroud who has done a lot for the club. Welbeck just suits Ozil much better.
It’s no secret that Ferguson was a brilliant manager. Too bad he’s retired.
Hahahaha.
No really, that’s a shame. Honestly.
Monkey-like? That’s no compliment! I don’t like such joke
Me neither. It is a tad racist. No one deserves that even if they play for the scum. Let us talk like who are. Classy people. Not taking the high moral ground though.
@Ngenofrank – Could you please explain how it is racist?
The monkey referrence is a bit sensitive. I guess it can be interpreted many ways though.
In that case, would you be so kind as to explain how you have interpreted it? and then tell us how it is racist?
I don’t think it’s traditionally regarded as a racial slur to call the Welsh monkey-like, something sheep-related perhaps, but not monkeys.
Hmmm, will someone get banned if they threw a sheep toy at Bale?
I forgot to add….a sheep toy with elephant ears. An ugly chimera.
@Ngenofrank I think the monkey reference was directed toward Gareth Bale, not a black player. I could be wrong, though. Don’t quite understand why they were reminding Tottenham of their dealings while playing at AV. But, I guess when you’re in a great mood you sing all your favorite songs, no?
its ALWAYS good to remind the scum that they are a bunch of retarded muppetts that sold their best player. You know, the one that looks like his dad was Kevin off the PG Tips adverts 🙂
HAHA
Ahhh Kevin…
Ok, ok would you prefer a very ugly looking chap, because there is nothing racist about it(sarcasm). The obvious is been stated here, he looks like a monkey.
you are ignorant .. and I am disappointed with blogs making such comments.
haaa what? ignorant is claiming somethings racist when its not, fool
when that guy threw a banana at bale and got banned, hero haha
Exactly! He looks like a monkey. A monkey who comes from Wales. Good player but still a monkey from Wales. A monkey who used to play for Sp#rs. Which makes him a fucking monkey! From Wales.
Believe me, the monkeys across the world are well tired of all the comparisons with a shoddy look-a-like who used to play for Sp#rs. If only more DNA was shared they would take their problem to the United Nations. Alas The Monkey From Wales doesn’t have enough human DNA for them to make a case.
Keep up the support and believe that Ozil will keep delivering. But Wenger MUST play him in his favourite position? NOT on the wings.
Özbeck Bitches we cumin for those sexy goals…
Ozil evidently enjoyed that game. Welbeck, Ozil and, later, Walcott will WOW defenses in the EPL. If these three, alongside Sanchez, Ramsey, Carzola and Wilshere stay injury free, many teams won’t know what hit them.
Ox, Rosicky and even Diaby still in the mix.
Chelsea may be installed as early favourites but that means nothing. You have to earn it by playing 90mins for 38 times.
Two defensive signings in January and this team, for once, has the ammunition to last the distance. Watch this space.
The problem is that we almost certainly won’t make two defensive signings in January. I’d be pleasantly surprised with one, to be honest. Especially when you consider the limited availability in January, and the fact that More money than sense United of Manchester will also be desperate to sign any decent defender that’s available. Apart from that though, I agree with you that our team looks excellent at the moment. I just hope Wenger figures out how he wants to use Ramsey Wilshere and Ozil together. Personally, I have the feeling that one of the three needs to be left… Read more »
Two defensive signings is, to say the least, un-Wengerlike. But a man can afford to dream. I know he will sign a central defender but I am hoping he can just add a DM also. If Diaby stays fit and Coqlien offers his bit, one signing could do. Talking about Ozil Ramsey and Wilshere, we have seen that having three of them on the pitch does not work but each can have a great season. In the past – Wishere 3 seasons ago and Ramsey last season – we played one player till they were spent. Sitting on the bench… Read more »
You could have one rude works down the left column!
Shame it’s only the away fans that seem to get behind the players. The home atmosphere can be toxic at times.
“If Arsenal can find the right striker who is fast and makes intelligent runs – then Mesut will be devastating next season,” – Lahm
Who knew it would be Welbeck!
Does anyone else read this in the Arsenal.com’s interpreter’s voice? No? Just me? Okay then.
I totally agree that Ozil and Welbeck complement each other but the same can be said of the Giroud Ramsey combination. Can’t have both at the same time but it’s certainly a plan A and a plan B now.
#findramblingpete
Dubuchy out for 3 months, says radio 5 live, and he was settling in so well. Get better asap, it will be good to get you back.
TTFN Olly
When Giroud is fit again, who would be the first choice for everyone?
And don’t bring out the “it depends on the opposition” sitting on the fence nonsense, even though that’s obviously the real answer. Who would you say is the better player?
Better player Welbeck.
Better hair HFB!
Wellbeck. What Ozil said about his runs is true.
A good run in the team and resulting self confidence, and who knows how good this guy can be? Comparisons with TH might not be far fetched…
Danny could be the guy. A couple against Tottenham will help bed him in.
St Toteringhham’s Day is early this year I hear.
We need to take advantage of our pace, not just in attack. We don’t seem to press well against the top teams or deny space when defending. Dortmund provided a masterclass this past week. On Saturday you could tell that after the first goal there was a zip in many player’s step (Ozil notably). I think we need confidence to defend with zeal; whether we’re up, down or whatever. Otherwise that creeping feeling in the back of our heads that we will concede won’t go away. Last season a sense of defensive fortitude started to build, but we lacked serious… Read more »
He says “our”game so is speaking for the team? Pace wins and Henrys statue has more than Giroud!!
And of course, Henry’s statue provided the equalizer against Everton. Oh wait…
HFB’s a good player. He has good technique and aerial ability, and that’s been helpful in the past. Welbeck gives us a needed alternative, but him being here doesn’t mean Giroud’s not needed anymore.
Olivier is not sharp enough in front of goal. Good player, but not a striker.
Sounds like Mesut is saying that Giroud is shit
I disagree. He’s just bigging up Wellbeck.
And as 4 bale, he escaped from the planet of the apes. BALEn.
I think he was more likely referring to Sanogo.
Introspect yourself 🙂
I just had to check to see whether Martin Keown played in Spain.
Then I realised it was Bale.
Cant wait for WOWS to play together…
Walcott Ozil Welbeck Sanchez
We’ve been missing pace on the apex for a while now.
In addition to pace, Welbeck also has good technical grounding and instinctively knows where to be. It’s his finishing/composure he needs to improve.
Footy is a simple game at times. Sometimes the simple direct route is the best one to take.
Hope Ozil and Welbeck continue to develop an understanding. It could be lethal.
keep ozil in the center, i love welbecks pace and technical qualities (his finishing needs more work though). If we can keep close to chelsea as much as possible till january then replace arteta with a top DM i’ll be delighted.
Mr wenger ozil is a wonderful player please keep playing ur 42 million purchased player on his natural position ( 1+1=2) easy remember you wasted Arshavin by kept playing him out fo his preferred place. However now my real worry is about what is happening to the Team’s defence ? With the news Dbu + monr out for some time , Any injury or suspension of one Deffender will be a huge huge Crisess . Hopefully not but if it does it won’t surprise me,coz Every knows that this thins happen in a very tough & long season . Unfortunately… Read more »
Ozil is a very good player, a German International with many caps, a World Cup winner…and above all the most expensive Arsenal player. He didnt turn bad overnite, like fans are saying. Thats utter rubbish & quote sickenong. As they say…class is permanent…and he is full of class. Just look at his goal & the assit a minute later…its one touch football of highest quality…on touch & the next is a goal, one touch & the next is a superb cross for welbeck. $$ cant buy class…for to some of those fickle fans…well we did bought class!! Very happy that… Read more »
Said ozil likes it when we sing for him. You could see it in his face when we sang for bfg (a welcome back and not him before the kick) away at Everton.sing up for pzil
Ozil likes it positive, posssssssitive, positive. He keeps it positive.
