Yaya Sanogo scored his first goals for the French under-21 side this afternoon as his country ran out easy 5-1 winners against Kazakhstan in the penultimate game of their Euro 2015 group qualifiers.
The Arsenal striker netted his country’s fourth goal in the 49th minute, calmly slotting home sidefooted from seven yards after a fine run by Florian Thauvin, before rounding off the scoring three minutes later after pouncing on poor goalkeeping. Perhaps he’s been spurred on by the arrival of Danny Welbeck…
France only needed a draw to secure progression to a knock-out play-off for the tournament proper. They’ve remained unbeaten against the likes of Iceland, Armenia, Belarus and today’s opponents to take their points total to 18 points.
In other news, Le Parisien claims television channel TF1 have opted not to renew Arsene Wenger’s contract. The boss has worked as a pundit for the station for the best part of ten years and had previously claimed he enjoyed the job as it kept him in close contact with top level football and helped improve his relationship with journalists.
He only undertook the role six or seven times a year, as well as helping to cover major tournaments. This summer he did it in between games of headers and volleys on Copacabana beach.
I fucking hope this does not mean Wenger will give him another try against Man City..
He needs to play Welbeck or Sanchez upfront in that game.
Good goals though (:
…against the mighty Kazakhstan, let’s not forget.
he played very well against them in cup…he finds him self always in position and he can keep the ball…he needs to work it out on finishing and we will be great…
All good for his confidence and development though.
I hope Wenger gives him a try and he will respond by scoring two against them citeah.
Yep, 2 goals against Kazak under 21’s should directly translate to him being the spearhead for Arsenal against citeh.
Sanogo should have been loaned out or he should be starting only the Capital One Cup Games.
When Walcott returns, I would like to see fast-paced counter-attacking football, especially against teams like Man City. (Sanchez, Welbeck, and Walcott, with Ozil pulling the trigger)
I don’t know when or how we turned into slow-paced passing around football team. Good to have pace back. It will be our trump card for the season.
It’s good to have more pace up front but all the pace in the world won’t help much against 2 bank of deep lying defenders. Sanogo will play his part this season. He just needs a goal to settle him down and up his confidence
Sanogo might be strong but so is welbeck i have seen defenders bounce off him and welbeck always gves 120% like sanchez against besiktas
Sanogo isn’t slow. OK he’s not quick off the mark but when he’s in his stride he covers ground very quick.
Does anyone else think we can play 4-4-2 Diamond until Walcott returns? Welbeck and Sanchez can be up-front with Ozil/Cazorla a little behind them. Ramsey and Wilshere/Rozza/Chamberlain can be the two central midfielders with Arteta/Chambers/Flamini for DM. We will be exposing our flanks a bit for their full-backs but I dont think we have great trackers back anyways. Both Sanchez and Welbeck work very hard defensively. I’d love to see us try this
Wenger rarely selects players based on how they played for a different team in a different tournament, rather how they look to him in training. You only need to look at Ramsey couple years ago, sanogo until now, Campbell…
Sanchez should definitely start up front. I think he moved him against Leicester because it was a tough, physical away game (bit like Everton where Sanchez struggled). City at home should be the perfect game for him.
I don’t care who plays where, as long as we, win da ting!
At the moment it’s like someone with philes taking a dump with a bad constipation…hopefully after the first competitive goal for us, it will flow for him!!
If these goals meant that much to him, how much do you think his first BPL goal must mean to him by now?
Just score da ting!
The criticism he has received has been unfair. The guy has scored plenty of goals for France at all levels, only senior level remains. He has struggled in front of goal so far for Arsenal, but everything else he does has been very encouraging.
lol looks likes he going to cry in that picture but dude…
Mommy.. The postman delievered!!
*Gets me coat*
Look at our Bambi-on-ice banging in goals for fun
heh, Bendtner could of scored those goals!
Bendtner could have missed them by pausing to drop his trousers in front of a blond sitting at the front row he fancied though
This was Bendtners contribution to the interlull.
https://vine.co/v/OuAawZp2wYm
Lmao – I could watch that all day – – – in fact I think I will
Second one is a tidy finish
I thought the first one would have been saved if it hadn’t taken a deflection. The second one, if he meant it, was an excellent finish. Made the covering defender look very silly, heh.
I mean not only is it a international U21 tournament, it’s also Kazakhstan… probably meant it.
‘Kazakh goalkeepers though Saint’
As he showed in the Emirates Cup, Sanogo can score. I think it’s just the pressure of the Premier League that slows him up. Loan the kid out Wenger!
Look how open he was one the first goal. Look how many French players were in their box. Arsenal don’t commit numbers like that in opponent boxes and good defenses don’t leave people so open.
Great for Sanogo. People have been really harsh on him but im looking forward to seeing him hopefully score a few goals in the league cup this season.
…and the league
No, hopefully now he isn’t in the starting XI for the league & hopefully we wont be in the position where we need to commit to bringing another striker on! But to be fair to the lad when he has come on as sub (FA cup semi & final) he has really made a difference but this has also coincided with us switching to a 442. Really want to see us use a more attacking formation against lesser teams, we no longer put teams to the sword which is a shame
I’d prefer him not to be a starter (unless injuries make it necessary) but to bring him off the bench to get some game-time on the rare ‘3-nil at half time’ games is exactly what he needs.
He’s bags goals for every team he plays for except Arsenal. What next? “Yaya bags 3 in the Postman Pat testimonial”?
Get danny up on done deal . . . Haha
good for him
First goal deflection second either class or fluke!
Come people, at this rate i’ll start to think that 2/3 rds of you don’t actually understand football!
6 thumbs down against 2 thumbs up at the moment of speaking.
Paul is right.
3/4 th of you that is. I just showed that I don’t understand mathematics 🙂
Derby – the main reason why people are thumbing down Paul’s comment is probably because the first person did it and the rest are braindead sheep just following suit.
I agree with you, Paul’s comment is factually correct:
1) First goal was deflected
2) Second goal was either fluke or class
Thanks Chaps!
He scores two goals and people are still taking the piss out of him.
Perhaps it would have been better of he didn’t score?
Fuck me.
The negativity is astonishing, isn’t it? There’s no patience, no thought of progression, no idea about development, not the slightest inkling of thought about how he might actually get better as he gets older … no, every player we have has to score a hat trick on their debut and improve instantly from there.
Spot on!
I can see him becoming a fantastic combo of the best of TH and another Arse legend Viera. He has qualities that remind me of both, specially the latter. But he is raw and it was unfair to place him under so much pressure leading the line at Leicester. Experience, confidence, a loan til next season.
He will come good…
Everyone demands instant success. That is the modern day football fan for you, completely brainwashed by the media and the money hungry Premier League.
If everyone bought ready made players then there would be no players coming through. This is exactly why the England team is suffering and why English football is too.
Great for his confidence, but unfortunately this tells us nothing about whether he’ll cut the mustard for Arsenal this season. Calamitous keeping and a deflected goal against Kazakhstan doesn’t change my opinion of him (which is, he’s been unfairly thrown in the deep-end and is unsurprisingly struggling. He could do with a loan).
Fuck me, I could actually
I rate Sanogo highly. He’s been unlucky not to score from us. I think in one of his earlier games he was incorrectly flagged as offsides. That would’ve greatly affected his confidence, his movement, strength and positioning has been fantastic for us though. When he starts scoring he will never stop! You heard it here first. Definitely think Welbeck is our first choice striker. Welbz, Giroud, then Sanogo/Campbell. He’s going to be a star for us sooner or later though!
Campbell isn’t a CF so he can only play there later in games where the opposition are chasing = playing a high line. Not to say he won’t learn but for the moment this is the case.
I know talent when I see it. It takes more than talent to become a superstar though. I think all the negativity and jokes and everything is fantastic as well because it will become a mental test for him to come over – and that’s what he needs. Come on you Sanogo!
When Cristiano Ronaldo started at Utd everyone took the piss out of him for falling over the ball, too many step overs, not enough end product. Henry took too many games too score they said, he’ll never be world class. Sanogo should look at these truly world class players and think he can do what they did. Do the unexpected, realise hi potential and I’m sure he will be Wenger’s next diamond in the rough. Although I see where everyone is coming from. Is this season the right time to blood a young striker, when the league is so competitive,… Read more »
Your comparison against Cristiano Ronaldo and the great TH14 are completely invalid comparisons. 1) When Ronaldo was falling over the ball he was much younger than Sanogo. By the time Ronaldo had reached the age Sanago is now, he had won PFA Young Player of the Year and PFA Player of the Year in the same season. 2) When Thierry joined Arsenal he was the same age as Sanago is now. A year previous, he had won the World Cup in which he was top goal scorer. People keep thinking Sanago is a little baby (probably because he skill level… Read more »
So purposefully fucking with his confidence and not supporting him will help him… I know in life experiences make you stronger, but there is no logic behind that.
No sanogo No party
Trust this guy, he will be a world class striker
I’m rooting for him. He seems like a really nice kid.
Wasn’t he player of the tournament at the under 21 world cup? Or was that a different age group?
he had a gr8 tournament, pogba was best player.
I love Sanogo for his determination and effort, but it is only me that think these were two incredibly lucky strikes (well deserved I hasten to add after all the bad luck he had)? The first one bounces happily of a Kazakh defender into the direction of the goal, and the second? Would have missed the post if it wasn’t for the glorious spin suddenly finding some traction on the turf and ends up in the net. Great stuff, make it happen in red and white!
Sanogo shall be the Drogba of Arsenal….. the boss very seldom gets it wrong when it comes to spotting talent. … the fact that he continues to repose his faith in yaya despite being goalless for us in competitive matches suggests so…. expect him to be the preferred choice over giroud by end of the season…
Yawn, deflection and 2nd he couldn’t of meant it, defender unlucky, anyhow, we got welbeck now, not the signing I wanted, but way better than Sanogoal.
When on earth is he gonna start doing this for us?
Typical Sanogo goals.
BTW. What’s Benny Hill’s younger French cousin doing at the start of the YouTube clip? Is he French punditry’s answer to Michael Owen or doesn’t the slapstick go that far?
Needs a loan and Campbell should get his chance IMO. Against Leicester I thought his performance was the worst I’d seen since TOWIE last aired. It was awful but I don’t think it’s his fault really. I think he’ll come good. Not that long ago that Ramsey got booed by his own fans and now he’s worth £40 million if he’s worth a penny
In Arsene I trust
Despite all the negatives from certain quarters of Arsenal simpletons, we have a very good player here in Sanogo. Remember he is still young and much like Ramsey, Walcott before, must be given the next season or two to develop. Giroud has maybe 2 more seasons left in him which dovetails in perfectly with Sanogo’s rise. The issue with Sanogo was not the potential quality of the player but that we would have been reliant on someone who was still comparatively raw had we decided to not dip in for another striker before end of window following Giroud’s unfortunate knock.… Read more »
You’ve made your points very well, Mr Wenger; but here’s the problem: clubs the size of Arsenal shouldn’t be offering on-the-job work experience to players like Sanogo. At other job Premier League clubs like, say, Chelsea, footballers with raw talent but not experience are sent out on loan to smaller clubs to enable them to gain experience out of the limelight. If they improve then they are returned to the mother club and then placed into the first-team squad. This is a simple but very effective way of bringing promising players through. What Chelsea would never do is play a… Read more »
Calm down Fatgooner. It’s not necessary to call him ‘Mr Wenger’ just because he supports one of our young, struggling players.
And Santori’s paragraph:
“The issue with Sanogo was not the potential quality of the player but that we would have been reliant on someone who was still comparatively raw had we decided to not dip in for another striker before end of window following Giroud’s unfortunate knock.”
Pretty much agrees with your reply and negates it.
No, Chelsea don’t develop players at all. Their young players go on loan and are then sold.
Even though we now have more financial power than we have had the last few years, we will continue to develop young, raw players and turn them into stars and I for one am very proud of this.
i just hate that the club you used as an example was chavski. why are you here
Hey FatChav,
Never too late to change ur allegiances.
I must answer for the simpletons then, because you are truly awe-inspiring and intellectual with your analysis.
But read this oh smarty pants! He has not scored for Arsenal in a competitive game.
We have already dropped 4 points.
We have no proven goalscorer (until welbeck was signed/Giroud injured).
But lets conintue with him, lets hope he starts banging them in by christmas, that way we still maybe able to get in the top four, its more important for you that he keeps being given the chance, Arsenals title challenge can wait can’t it?
Doofus.
Just cos he’s smarter than you, doesn’t mean you have to get all upset there Nancy.
You’ve already decided that Welbeck is a proven goalscorer yet if he doesn’t score a hattrick against city i’m sure you’ll be slagging him off too.
Stop panicking.
OK Brenda, I’ll try to remain calm just for you sweety! I didn’t already decide, I saw the stats, it amazes me how many people want Arsenal to develop players and lose out on the league.
A top class professional club does not develop players live in league matches, we are doing it because of lack of other players, it will always astound me that all the thumbs down people don’t see it.
Maybe when you have been supporting Arsenal for even half the time I have, you’ll have a better sense of what it takes to win the league.
The problem is I think Arsene likes them to get experience playing ‘The Arsenal way’. You don’t get that anywhere else.
Then play him in the under 21s, play him in the cup games, not in a hugely important league game.
In the future YS will get much less playing time but there are times (injuries) when he’s the only option.
Sczezsney
Debauchery Mertescielny Montreal
Cazorla Arteta
Özil
Walcott Sanchez
Welbeck
La Défense? Looks anything but..
Aaron Ramsey is actually rather good too mate.
Its funny everyone seems to compare sanogo to Ramsey but not Bentner or Chamak, We easily forget wenger has gotten it wrong before. I can’t blame anyone for being optimistic because deep down we all know he is pure raw talent with his height and physic the only stand out attribute he has now. We all want him to succeed but definitely not at the expense of the fans having to wait two more year for a major trophy.
Actually wrong comparisons, Wenger cant be blamed for Bendtner’s mindfuck. And Chamakh did a very decent job when he came in, he dropped off only when Van Judas came back in.
And if i remember correctly, Arsenal had more goals per game that season playing Chamakh than with Van Judas.
Should have said ‘And Chamakh did a very decent job when he came in, he dropped off only when Van Judas came back and the home crowd started getting on his back which shattered his confidence’.
Well played sonago, also debuchy, santi afc must keep back 4 on form i know gunners will be ready for city,
Both goals were pure luck nothing else. I’ll take welbeck over him anytime.
You are probably dumb luck yourself.
I gotta change my name now
I started to watch this as I was walking through Walthamstow marshes around midnight. For those of you who aren’t local, there’s a railway bridge in the middle of the marshes that has a 1.5m clearance which necessitates ducking when you walk under it. This video loaded just as I reached the bridge (it was a long boring solo walk home from the pub) and I completely forgot where I was and knocked myself out. I got woken up up by someone in fluro clothing on a bicycle with the video still playing. I fucking hope Yaya scores for us… Read more »
Proof, if any were needed, he needs games at a slightly lower level!
Zenithreptile is out three weeks.
I am a little bit injured, At the moment we are a little bit not sure exactly what is the problem. I will be be out for 2-3 weeks.
wow a young arsenal CF does well at his level for his country and manages to get butchered anyway by his club fans.
I think it may be interesting to know what our player think of our fans, especially when the chips are down for Eboue, Chamakh, previous Ramsey etc2
Jeez please give the boy a rest. Remember he came for free, is pn £30k was free scoring for Auxere, had a long term injury lay off and was thinking of quitting football all together when Wenger convinced him. Henry had 8 games in PL without a goal and that after winning the without world cup. The boy needs his mojo back. Yes loaning to another struggling PL will do him good. Sometimes I do think Wenger just throw him into big games. Too overwhelming. But still manage to make be a nuisance for the adverse defense in those games.… Read more »
