There’s not much positive to say about the 2-2 draw with Hull this afternoon other than ‘Well, at least we didn’t lose’. And that’s not anything to be content with in the first place.
Here’s how the players rated. Remember, you can leave your own ratings on the system below.
So when are we going to sell sanchez to city?
Campbell needs more minutes. That is a given. Really really pathetic plan to keep crossing the ball and taking corners in the way we do. Need to just keep the ball on the ground. They just sit back and wait to win an easy ball in the air time and time again. We only looked dangerous on the wings when bellerin or whoever was out there kept the crosses low or just ran at guys. Such a disappointing performance.
the tragic thing for me is that it came as no surprise
Takeaways from this game:
1) Stop worrying about whether Man City or Chelsea lose.
2) Start hoping that Man Utd, Sp*rs, and Liverpool lose. (And Everton, at this rate)
#raceforfourth
4th will be a serious challenge this season and if the games continue like this mid table if we are lucky. Sad, frustrating but oh so predictable…. Wenger has lost the plot and injuries are no excuse.
Plus points; Bellerin and Campbell.
And Southampton and West Ham.
and southampton…
Agree with all the ratings apart from Kieran Gibbs being ‘fine’. He was poor, he showed a lack of desire today. He’s 25 now, he’s got to do better than just play OK every game. How much or time do we give him before we upgrade. Monreal’s having a decent season, probably deserves a start away to Sunderland next week.
Lay off Gibbs. He wasn’t the weakest link, if any, the whole team collapsed today, ffs. The ref was shite and Mertesacker should have jumped. I wonder how many goals we concede as a result of individual errors? A little note on Welbeck, he was outstanding in the grand scheme of things. The very little chances created made it very difficult for him. He can create his own chances with his pace but that I won’t hold it against him for the time being. If he can put away the chances created by the midfield and flanks, I’m a happy… Read more »
Gibbs left Per exposed on the second goal.
Exposed in what way? It wasn’t a one on one situation, heading balls away is Mertesacker’s forte. That’s one of those individual errors I’ve seen far too many times.
Ozil invisible again today…
The best comment today
Haha
I want to like the comment but don’t want to ruin the ‘100’
we need a big player like Diame.. A lil more Better !!!
Diame is do last year
We need Progba
Lovely strong player
Pogba isnt a DM. We need someone like Matuidi from P$G he is such a powerhouse in midfeild albeit kindof short he is strong in the tackle has an enormous engine which means he gets up and defends very well too
They can thumb you down all they like all i know is Diame is better than Arteta and Flaminni and he has 4 goals already this season.
Even our much hyped Wilshere is yet to score 4 goals in the BPL a season after even 15 matches.
Some Gooners keep burying their heads in the sand, unfortunately the sand is mixed with dog poo!
You know what’s symptomatic of burying head in the sand? Comparing Diame to Arteta/Flamini/Wilshere.
Yes, comparing the goal returns of Hull’s midfielder who plays just behind their striker to our deepest midfielders.
Well done to you.
Diame pushed Flamini…need more people like that ..we hv all d creative small guys …now we need some strong People around..
At a point on the second half when all the changes were made I literally had no clue what formation we were playing if we did have one… Just looked like a bunch of players on the pitch running around… 8 games in and we still don’t look like a team with any sense of game plan or direction or whatever other than “Let’s get into the box and pass it some more instead of taking a shot”
What a shitty game
What a shitty Referee
What a shitty game played by Alex Chambo
What a shitty game played by Per
That’s done with the negatives
What a lovely determined energetic player is Bellerin
What a classy player extraordinaire Alexis is ( Take a bow Son)
Middle of the road
Gibbs ….Applause
Danny… Lovely goal
Monreal….Did well
Ramsey will improve. I saw a slight a shift in his play today
Everyone else ….. Annoyed me
The Hull Team
Game plan started from the Keepers to the Defence.
So many head injuries and no contact….
We have a completely unbalanced squad. So much so that a guy like Campbell who is clearly useful can’t get a sniff because we have an embarrassment of attackers. At the other end however, we have to play people out of position, blood young guys in hugely important games and our inability to get a good DM is smacking us in the face literally every time we take the pitch at the moment. We are going to have more results like this, because teams come up against us and know that if they hang in there, we will give them… Read more »
Oughhh what a shit performance by referee. Something needs to be done because every match prejudice us. Some of you say we shouldn’t have excuses like that, maybe you are right but I know if someone would do such a bad job against us I would go mad and I would slap the referee as hard as I can. So all respect to players that they stay so calm but still it is a major blow for every person. But I blame Wenger for bringing Ramsey in. That is not the Ramsey we all expect, hat is the “old” Ramsey.… Read more »
I’m telling you we won’t win 2 games in row without Mesut Özil.
Or with him either.
as the team is playing, we wouldnt win 2 games in a row even with messi, cristiano, zlatan, suarez, you name it. As long as we dont have a game plan other than “pass the ball around”.
The positives was joel and Hector for me…Chambo was piss poor but I still love him and one of my favourite Gooners…1 poor 1 isn’t bad..
Debuchy’s so fucking hard
Bad result I know. Hapless at times, true. Lacked energy, no question. Arsene has lost it; debatable.
But take out the equivalent of Debuchy, Chambers, Koscielny, Ozil, Ramsey, Walcott, Giroud and Podolski – the entire spine and bench, and they will suffer.
Gutted like all true gunners but I don’t want to pretend the team will be as good as it can with these guys on the sidelines.
Injuries have been unkind to us.
I hope we have a better second half of the season injury wise… I believe we can claw back to third at least. Only if!
Take the equivalent from any other team I meant.
So much for challenging for the league this season. And a CL spot looks to be another grind. Plus ca change…
I got used to watching us play with out expecting the most but rather being realistic..the situation is fucking the fans over…whips out his coq..
Well Stillborn Deformed Hapless Turtle sounds like a crappy show..
Probably a better movie than the one that’s out now though
#fuckmichaelbay
#fuckmichaelbay indeed
Come on Arseblog, add the manager to the ratings! Stop protecting his poor decisions, inept tactics and reckless gamble on starting the season with only six defenders!
Good idea!
It’s ‘player ratings’ for goodness sake. If you want to talk about the manager in the comments go ahead, but giving a manager a mark out of 10 for each game is daft.
I dunno… the players’ ratings are evaluated weekly since they can perform differentially in their task each time, why not the manager? Sure, he’s stubborn as a goat so the concept of weekly change is maybe laughable, but it makes sense in theory. My issue wiith player ratings as a generalism is that the average player score is almost entirely a function of the match result. While it follows that a team where everyone plays well is likely to win, it’s not necessarily the case that if you won you must have player well. If that makes sense? Many times… Read more »
……as the baying horde sailed their warship through Camden Lock, banging their shields, lighting arrows and chanting over and over again, “MANAGER RATING!! MANAGER RATING!!”
Yet a critique of managerial decisions feature in most post match articles…..recent example, the decision to not sub Ozil in the Chelsea game, despite the player playing badly and having a suspect knee.
Why not add a rating for the manager? If the obsession is for player ratings only, why have a bonus rating and mention the ref?
“Played like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle”…
Okay Arseblog has killed me! LMAO!!!
Regarding Ramsey.. I get this feeling he started to think of himself as of a star for a bit there and it did him no good. Just his appearance – doesnt look like the humble hard working kid he used to be. Its like he thought he did it and now he could just enjoy being good. I hope he can get back on the ground fast, get back to basics again and work hard again to shine again.
That I already said at the start of the season but no one agreed with me. Like you said only his haircut and ooh I can grow a beard I matured now say everything. Like you said he needs to get on the ground and if he doesn’t I hope Wenger will have the guts to bench him. It looks like Wilshere is now leading the race.
JW has been rubbish, he looses the ball far too often and makes stupid passes around the box that are invariably intercepted by the opposition. He is not good enough… His ‘footballing brain’ seems to be at the wrong end of his torso.
as opposed to always playing the safe sideways/backwards pass, playing it slowly up with pitch minimising take-ons?
Jack’s dynamism & taking responsibility for trying to win make things happen, and yeah, subsequently he LOSES the ball a bit, but you can’t make an omelette without breaking a few eggs.
He’s the Welsh Jesus and he will rise again. It’s not the first time doubters have forsaken him. He’ll make you eat your words and they’ll be ever so tasty!
Anyone sing ‘Stillborn, deformed, hapless turtles!’ No? Just me? *evaporates into dust*
Arseblog, for Woj, is that rating that he was let down by the back line or that he was a let down? It’s very discouraging to see just how easy we are to break down and score against at the moment… Mostly because of defensive lapses.
So much for our holiday run and maximum points….we’ve got to get healthy and some adds in January. And go on a real run and collect points, teams like this should not even score against us
Bad reffing decisions, bad injuries, bad defending, bad passing. The soundtrack of our season. Getting rather peeved with it all. Our fortunes have to change soon, surely. It seems like it’s a long time until January.
Well I’m quite glad I didn’t see the game now after reading those comments. Shit. If we can’t get the 3 points in a home game like this, we’re in trouble.
For me Kos is one of our top players and missing him is painful for the team. BFG has his good qualities but his lack of speed has always worried me and he seems to be getting caught out too often.
Still, good to hear Hector put in a good stint and that Alexis got some rewards for his efforts. Love that guy.
Mr.BFG today let in a goal not because of the pace but ball watching.
Beat That!
The guy easily beat him to a header.
That big Kos-sized hole in the middle of our defense didn’t help.
Alexis is just too good for AFC at the moment. What an embarrassing performance from the others. I feel for the guy.
sometimes feel we dont deserve him
I love how at the beginning of the season Sanchez would try to close down defenders by high pressing only to turn around and realize that none of his teammates are doing that. My friends and I would say he still thinks he’s playing with Barca. I saw that he didn’t do much of that today (it’s useless if you don’t do it as a team). My worry is that soon he’ll realize that there is no point in running himself ragged when everyone around him doesn’t give a shit. He’s too good for this team and deserves better.
The way I see it, considering our injury woes, I’ll take the point. We could be worse…cough..Tottenham…cough . Support your team, they’ll come good. COYG
The game totally took a turn when Wilshere was taken off. I like him but he really slows our game down. Am still not sure what his best position is.
Deeper, clearly works better with more responsibility, For example his first season along side Song and his recent games for England, fucking clear as day Arsene.
I’ve never seen so many poor opposition players hit the deck as the result of non-existent tackles/touches/contact. I don’t suppose Mrs Doubtfire will be embarrassed at sending a team on to the pitch with those instructions. But then again he was schooled by Red Nose so he wouldn’t, would he…..
Felt we were tentative in the second half going forward with impact from the silly goals we let in. At 1-1 we were still very much in control but once the second goal went in, we applied the hand brakes (rightfully) worried we may concede a third and it would kill us off. Once we got to the final 5 minutes + 6 generous minutes of stoppage time, we started to go for it with nothing much more to lose. Had we done this earlier, we may have ridden this out better and not conceded yet another damaging draw. Campbell.… Read more »
6 generous minute of injury time??? Are you sure cos i felt we deserved at least that
Arsenal can do better than Diame, but I’ll take him before Arteta and Flamini.
Truth!
Get some perspective and try to watch more football, will you?
Diame plays just behind Hernandez and Jelavic. He’s their Ozil, and not a defensive midfielder.
He’s still better than our defensive midfielders and arguably one more 50/50s and tackles than any other player on the pitch, stood out more than anyone in the midfield, Huddlestone on the other hand stood out like a gaping hole of mistakes. And he’s the DM? gimme Diame, he can play dm or am.
Arguably WON more 50/50s
I’m going to repeat myself here but this squad is so lacking in balance and looks like it was put together by a bloke who simply bought players because they are good but with no real strategy of why to buy them. It was piss poor. I’ve been ever present thus far this season at the Emirates and I’m now beginning to get a little worried. What was really alarming today also was the lack of urgency and pace in our play. We need to improve by 3 notches but I’m deeply concerned we haven’t got it in us. Wenger… Read more »
“we virtually concede with every opportunity our opponents create”
From tonights 7am kickoff post:
“So far this season, Arsenal have conceded basically the same number of goals as they have scored¹ — 11 conceded, 12 scored — and they have conceded those goals on less than half as many shots — 57 to 126.
[…] The opposition have scored on their first or second shot and then have looked to defend while Arsenal have been forced to take shot after shot”
So… yeah. Diabolical.
Totally agree with your assessment. I wanted to add that our manager became too powerful in the club. He wouldn’t change any of the things that have failed over the last 10 years. In addition, the players respect him a lot but wouldn’t go to war for him. We are like teenagers playing football and nobody want to do the fastidious and uninteresting work of defending and this is in line with the manager’s football philosophy.
Alexis was a cut above today . He really has been a great signing .
With that amount of defensive disruption I’m not at all surprised we let in sloppy goals, however we lack that killer instinct up front .
We barely created in the second half , against hull who are average .
We have only played well a couple of times this season .
It’s quite worrying .
Wenger has already publicly expressed his intention to mould Chambers into a DM, therefore he must’ve realised he will have to purchase another CB in January as until he gets another CB Chambers shouldn’t be risked playing in midfield given a potential injury to one of three recognised CBs. I therefore think there will be a CB signing in January and we’ll see Wenger offering us Chambers as the resolution to our problems in midfield. Well either way, we’re getting a signing in January.
Dont take any notice of what Wenger says in public. Chambers was bought as a right back. He was then needed in the centre and excelled. He has the ability to play in midfield but i really dont think there is any definite plan here. More a case of see where he is needed and which position he grows into naturally. I personally think he’ll be staying as a defender
Campbell definitely needs more minutes. He played well today and put in a shift defensively as well. Hope to see him feature against Anderlechet in midweek.
All due respect Arseblog, I’m an avid follower, but the author is really just an insensitive c**t.
The stillborn joke about Ox’s performance is just bad taste, there were plenty of other words you could have used to sum up his performance. I’m guessing the author never had to experience a stillbirth? I have and a stillborn is not an adjective I thinks even appropriate in the context.
You’ve lost yourself a follower
I am very sorry you experienced that, but stillborn doesn’t exclusively apply to the situation you’ve mentioned. It can be used to describe something which didn’t work out, like a plan or a performance.
If you’ve been an avid follower you’ll know I wouldn’t be that deliberately crass.
Of course you’re extra sensitive because the relevance of the issue to you but that doesn’t mean it can’t be used lightly as comedy by others. If you disallow any jokes that offend people based on some personal connection, on the internet, that means banning all comedy. If the joke is simply discrimination dressed as humour, then that’s different, but this wasn’t. Let’s not try to censor everything because of our own hurt feelings.
Ssczesny is so terrible at one on one’s the way he goes down and just hopes his hands touches the ball is terrible and I think he could’ve done better with the header also. Actually Per and scezny and who ever was playing left back that allowed that cross in the first place… should’ve done better! And boy do we need January right now!
It was a foul but that whole Diame situation ( similar to Hazards run to win the penalty for the chavs) highlighted every weakness we have defensively..and foul or not Flamini still could have at worst just hoofed the ball out. Way too many players taking too many touches and slowing the game down..and when you have more than 3 or 4 doing this it. Ox had a mare but he will bounce back..Flamini is just shite but its not his fault he wasn’t replaced. People have to start holding Wenger accountable. Sannchez was Motm and Welbeck worked hard, but… Read more »
How about a mark for Wenger? 3/10!
too high
Well this squad si obviously unbalanced….
If only we could buy Vidal… Or we trade him against Ozil (I love him, but we have to many offensive midfielders…)
I saw a stat that Wilshere has 1 goal and 1 assist in 15 games? If this is true and Wenger believes the team should be built around him (or at the very least accommodate him in an advanced midfield role) then Wenger needs to take a vacation. Today was another game in which he had a lot of possession and created nothing. Last year we were in first place for half the season playing 4231 with Ozil and Ramsey contributing on a regular basis. This year we’ve added Alexis and Welbeck and we’re actually worse??!! Ramsey and Ozil have… Read more »
@SDB….Agreed! Wilshere is a complete liability. We play better without him and I’ve personally posted this fact on here a few times before.
‘Only’ two more years of this Wenger shite to go now.
Ok Mertesacker was one of our best players bar the 2nd goal, he was great in the first half, countless interceptions and good passing, even assisted the first goal, harsh rating indeed. Wilshere was better than cazorla, in fact Cazorla was absolutely useless in the 2nd half, gave the ball away more than any. Ox was solid and purposeful throughout. Gibbs wandered forward too much without getting back quick enough which buggered the whole defence. But I still love him, wish he’d score more, he’s fully capable, scored loads of screamers in the reserves and youth, wish he’d shoot sometimes… Read more »
Whenever Sanchez scores i know it will not be the winning goal. #sanchezout
I think we have got to be more cavalier in these kinds of games. Play Ramsey instead of Flamini at CDM. If Flamini cannot handle a simple pull back (yes it was a foul but there is no way Diame should get ahead), then no point in playing him – His errors have already cost us 2 wins, Hull and Sp*rs. I also do feel for Szczesny – Golden Glove Winner last year having to defend with a bunch of clueless chickens in front of him – Per was dreadful on their 2nd. The title is gone 8 games into… Read more »
Against Galatasary Ospina saved almost exactly the same header that with Scez would have been a goal. There is a few of those middle of the goal headers that other keepers save and our Pole in the goal cannot. Your keeper is needed for those crucial moments. As for the referees people say we had no chance against Chelsea but the ref mucked up a clear penalty, allowed Ivanovic to kick Sanchez the whole game and a lot of Arsenal players to be kicked. Today that was a clear tug that can be seen by anyone. Against Man City Kompany,… Read more »
@SDB @ Arseblood – Agree with you on Wilshere and have made the same points on here a number of times. He hustles and bustles and most are blinded towards him because he’s ‘Arsenal through and through’ but there’s very rarely any end product to his play. Can’t fault Jack’s effort but for me he is one of the reasons the balance isn’t right, it rather Wenger’s insistence on playing him and others out of position. When he burst onto the scene he was an incredibly gifted talent but the player that looked incredible against Barca in our 2-1 win… Read more »
It was (another) poor performance from the entire team. The constant of desire and urgency is the most frustrating thing. Campbell was the only player who looked like he wanted to win the game!
Gibbs simply isn’t good enough with the ball at his feet. He can defend, but he’s atrocious coming forward, his crossing is pathetic.
When are we going to learn that 4-5-1 doesn’t work unless you have midfielders who make runs into the box?
All in all guys, I believe its time the manager goes. I love wenger and what he has done for us as a club, he would always have a place at this club but it seems to me he has reached his limit. He doesn’t seem to me to be able to take us to the next level we need to get to, and no one can argue that he hasn’t had a fair opportunity to do that. My fear is that the board and those with the power at the club don’t have the strength to take the decision… Read more »
