Gibbs frustrated despite late win

Kieran Gibbs was thankful for the late, late win over Anderlecht this evening, and praised the spirit of his teammates, but slammed the lack of end product to the Gunners attacking moves.

Arsenal had plenty of the ball but were unable to create many chances during the game, and the left-back admitted that was something that frustrated him.

“I felt we’d controlled lots of the game,” he said, “but final ball let us down massively and that was frustrating.

“We had to keep probing, and we did that. I’ve got to give massive credit to the boys,  we didn’t give up. It wasn’t easy to come here, we kept going, and it was difficult to get the win.”

Asked if he could figure out why the team had failed to perform until the final minutes and were lucky to still be in the game after the home side hit the bar and missed good chances to extend their lead, he said, “No, if I knew that we wouldn’t have this problems.

“But the boys are working extremely hard, everyone’s fighting for each other, and another big game at the weekend so we have to concentrate on that now.

“We’ll give 100% for the team, have to keep doing that, some days it doesn’t happen, but we’ll remain professional and focused.”

The way this team’s playing you have to feel sorry for Sanchez.

Adam

Agree, its almost embarrassing seeing him play piggy in the middle and all the other players jogging around.. Suppose thats what barcelona teaches ya

Unnecessarilystupid

I agree with you to a degree but he thrived at udinese as a big fish and never really found a place as a small fish at barca. He’s producing and I think that might be because he’s comfortable in his surroundings; as long as that continues, who are we to complain?

bims lay

Sanchez Sanchez Sanchez!……arsenal’s best player on the night by a mile

what a fantastic buy he is turning out to be.

with that workrate, and if he is here for long, i bet he will end up being one of the arsenal legends in the future

….just my opinion

Sajit

Easily the most down to earth focused character in the team. Love Gibbo.

Goon

You can now see how important Ozil is.

Unnecessarilystupid

And Walcott and giroud and podolski.

H. P. Arsecraft

And Koscielny!

The Ghost of Paul Robinson

And Eboue

this aint FIFA bitches

Fuck Ozil. This has nothing to do with that lazy shit. If Ozil was in the team tonight we would have lost.

I do not understand why every “fan” has to lick Ozils crack. The guy has been piss poor for us for the last 12 months & he has only been here 13 months.

Unnecessarilystupid

Thanks for your input.

Carlsenal

My god what a rediculous comment. Did you hate Bergkamp aswell? Not strictly comparing the two,
however, if you read the statistics of even this season, you’ll see what he brings.

And nobody said this was Fifa.

OOzil

Almost as ridiculous as your spelling of ridiculous :p

WengersNoseHair

Good Lawd, nothing wrong with a difference of opinion, but to talk about a Gunner in those terms is just not on.

Zelalem

Fuck you. Seriously.

Dylan

and Bendtner!

Yaya Binks

The last few games we really look like we’ve never played together before, WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THEM?

I fear Alexis may well regret his decision and bugger off 🙁

GONNERNOW

You know why? Its the new formation! 4-1-4-1

Because of this formation, our midfielders do not know where to go when we are attacking or defending. Plus it require our two attacking midfielders(Ramsey and Wilshere) to run alot and switch between who is going between the defence and midfield, which they DONT! We dont have a number 10 with this formation which isolated Welbeck and he was helpless and alone.

Stillmatic

Is it a coincidence that the only two games we’ve looked convincing all season, Galatasary and Villa, are the games we reverted to 4-2-3-1?
Yet Wenger persists with this formation. Even more annoyingly, the primary reason for the formation, shoe horning in Sanchez, Ozil, Jack and Ramsey, isn’t even needed anymore as Ozil is injured.

Now we don’t even get the best out of Ramsey who does better deeper, whilst also giving the defence extra midfield protection.

Anthony

its not Sanchez though who always puts in a shift. Gibbs, Wilshere, Welbeck have been excellent so far. We just aren’t clicking, I thought after the galatasary game that we had found our rhythm.

Melbourne gooner

I miss Giroud

gordy

I don’t think we should be too negative. Teams beat us when they play rubbish. The lack of central defenders is still there and a real accusation for the manager but who would you want the ball to fall to 5 yards out on their left foot. Wilshere and Ramsey still need to prove they have real class.

Anthony

To be fair to Wilshere and Ramsey, they have both had fairly stop start seasons so far. Wilshere is starting to show real class again after a good run of games and Ramsey is only just back from another injury. Doesn’t excuse not being on target from 5 yards out though. Make the keeper work!

chopper4001

If you going to play the two together (and ultimately I hope we do, for most of their respective careers) they need to play as deeper midfielders. Jack has shown that its his preferred position now (albeit most of us saw him as a no. 10 originally), and Rambo’s strengths (tackling, ball recycling, arriving late in the box) are as a deeper midfielder (who’s bright spark is it to play him as an AM?). What it needs though, is them to understand their responsibility to the team. You can play with two B2B midfielders in the modern game, but only… Read more »

Anthony

Not entirely sure Giroud would have made much difference tonight to be honest…

Yaya Binks

Just a lot of very very sloppy play, no one moves for the ball they just wait for it to get to them, everyone clumps together, theres no movement for each other or in general and we don’t go to the opposing player when he gets the ball, we just stand off them. It’s the basics of football and we look like we’ve forgotten it

Sir Hugh Massingbird Massingbird

I do like Gibbs. Always puts in a shift. Add to that he’s not trying to hide the deficiencies of the team

SWGooner

Too much passing and not enough invention.

bims lay

well, we seem to have mastered the art of tiki taka..ing …….in the true meaning of the word a la Guardiola!

MT

I won’t talk about Wenger’s stupidity because is no point of it he will never change. I Will talk about english core. I just think that is a waste of time. English players are just mentaly not good enough. They have all atributes but rare players reach their potential. Wenger wants to listen media and play with Ramsey, gibbs, wilshere, chambers, chamberlain,… But let’s face it we shouldn’t. Ramsey will never be near as good as Fabregas is nor Wilshere. And those two were the reason we didn’t buy him not Ozil and because of them we are playing 4-4-1-1… Read more »

FFS!…..whats being british got to do with anything?…….arsenal has a problem right now, period!

when everything is working, arsenal is in full flow is a sight to behold, and this is why we all support the club……when its not?….then there has to be a problem, and this problem can be, …nope!…..WILL BE FIXED!

now……the problem could be fitness, formation, management, injuries, finance, depression, romance God?…whatever!……….but its definitely not nationality.

Femi

Spot on on the opinion that British players are not good enough. But that’s not the problem, Our problem is not because the English players are not too good but because of a total shift in the way we do things generally, and this is caused by Arsene Wenger. but the glory days of the red Manchester are still fresh in my memory, where 80% of the team were British. They came saw and conquered

Jmcc

Oxlade chamberlain needs to be on the pitch more. Can’t understand why he continues to persist with no width.

Truth Hurts

I miss Debuchy’s runs, I miss Ozil’s passes, walcotts pace and Giroud’s strength. I miss Arteta only because he is better than flamini but most especially I miss that defensive midfielder we are going to buy.

Yaya Binks

I miss The Invincibles and Arsene’s sly and knowing “i fucking told you” smile

Finsbury Park Gooner

I miss turning teams over in the first half and being able to enjoy the second.

Oor Wullie

Have his comments come via Google Translate?

Javis

It’s worrying how much ease teams get to the edge of our box, and how quickly. We weren’t able to do that tonight, there doesn’t seem to be a game plan at all without the ball..

the real ozil

I think the British core will prove its worth giving time. We have been solid with no real creativity this season (bar gala match) teams don’t look like they’ll beat us as easily as they did in the past but what we really lack is that killer pass in the final third and a killer striker to finish it like berkamp to henry . Since the Dutch C*nt left we haven’t replaced him with a world class CF . It took us till last summer to replace fab with a world class Cm in ozil . And i think i… Read more »

MT..you are right on point. I don’t see Wilshere or Ramsey stepping up to the plate. No doubt they are good but not good enough. If only we didn’t pass up on Cesc. ..imagine Ozil and Cesc in our team right now..imagine them playing against Andrlecht..The game would be wrapped up in the 1st half. Welbeck will be feeling like the god of hatricks cos he wld hv done a double today. Sad..Sad..sad

goonerahman

can someone please tell me why wenger doesn’t play a 4-2-3-1 formation?

Robstar

We need to beat West Brom to secure fourth spot, Gibbs with a last ditch tackle to help us get it. Two nil down in the FA cup final, Gibbs with the header off the line to prevent us going three down. Champions league and we are one nil down against minnows, who comes up with the first goal? This guy is working his way to a statue outside the ground.

Crew

Hello, my name is Kieran Gibbs and i am better than Luke Shaw.
Man Utd: oh hello Kieran, how much did Arsenal pay for you?
Gibbo: 0, how much did you pay for Shaw?
Utd: 32m… ffs

Chairman Meow

you again?

badaab

Know what was especially frustrating to watch? Gibbs celebrating his goal while the rest of the team wanted to go for the winner.

Dylan

Did the winner make you feel frustrated aswell?

Dylan

Did the winner frustrate you aswell?

Danskin

What a composed finish that was from Gibbs. It will give him massive confidence.

Arseblood

Was Gibbs frustrated that we were complete shit, I wonder?

Ruelando

A much better response, than some i have been hearing recently after a poor game, yes the points are important but we looked lost in a system that really does not play to arsenal strength at the moment, wenger insist to accommodate Wilshere and ramsay in the squad at the same time, which slows down our attacking ability significantly, both are good players but can not work to the benefit of arsenal in the system being experimented with

A K 57

Some other day and we could have lost 4-2. It wouldn’t take an Einstein to realise that Monreal is not working. Per is trying to be everywhere. I never seen chasing down the winger at the edge of box. He always remains in centre waiting for the cross to be headed away. Kos’s is absence is actually losing us Mertsacker as well. Just as well we are playing Sunderland and not Southampton next week.

Arsepedant

Some other day and we’d have been 3-0 up and cruising before Anderlecht scored. Remember Cazorla’s miss on three minutes? Remember Sanchez’ free header off a free kick, that he actually ducked and let skim off his back? Remember their keeper made a great save off Cazorla a couple minutes after that? Ramsey’s chance was more difficult, but on another day that might have gone in, just as Sanchez’ free kick might have bent a little more on another day. Fact is, it might not have been prettty, but we played well enough to win in the end. Three points… Read more »

I think we should sell Podolski, Rosicky, Flamini,Wilshere Mertesacker, Ozil and Campbell.
And buy Cavani, Pogba, Schniderlin, Draxler, Nastasic and Hummels.
Lets become dangerous from set pieces again, Palace caused Chelsea more problems last weekend than we did.
We’re far too short, lightweight and lacking in aggression.

mjw3

Ehrm….okay.
Make it happen.

Arsepedant

Total income from selling Podolski, Rosicky, Flamini, Wilshere, Mertesacker, Ozil, and Campbell: about 55 million pounds.

Cost of Cavani alone: about 55 million pounds.

Rich, are you going to stump up for the rest of them?

SDB

Sell Ozil??? That is insane

Dylan

Thats not the only insane thing in that sentence..

Black Hei

I have this mind control kit that I can sell to ya. Its cheap and all the babes on facebook use it when selling their work from home to get mega bucks thingy.

TnGunner

Theo does what most players won’t…shoot often and from distance. We just need to start pulling the trigger more and good things will happen. I can’t wait for him and Giroud to return….their directness is missed with our abundance of flair…take the win boys and move on, it’ll get better as we return to health and capacity

DB10s

What I am frustrated about this season is that we seem to have gone backwards in terms of team play compared to last season even though we pretty much had 90% of the same players starting out there.

Rich

The AST estimate of £42 million available in Jan is inaccurate, try adding £75-85million to that number. The last accounts released did not include our commercial revenue for the 2014/15 season which now exceeds match day revenue. We are no longer running at slight operational losses, we are running at operational profits of £75-85million p/a thanks to new commercial and broadcasting revenue. So come July 1st add another £75-85mill then do the same for each of the next 4years, minus wage increases, inflation and Stan’s payments for some made up crap. we’re stinking of cash whatever Ivan Gazidis or the… Read more »

I think the team is pulling off great results for only playing 10 minutes at the end of each game

Really happy to see Gibbsy score. I think he needs to add goal scoring to his repertoire now. It will only benefit him and more importantly us. The team need the fullbacks to provide width to open space through the middle. Ditto Podolski. Wenger needs to consider some unused assets carefully. Podolski, Campbell and Ox all offer more direct threat in the wide areas. Thus far he has been using Ozil, Santi and Alexis who are versatile to switch across the line but are more cultured players with preference to pinch into the middle (Although Alexis to be fair is… Read more »

The attack is not gelling at all causing great difficulty to win matches. There is no rhythm going forward. No cohesion to be precise. In the past 12 -13 years of supporting Arsenal, last night was the first time when I switched over to another (the L’pool) game. Our performance was that BAD. Ramsey has again become the player who used to get booed by our own fans. Massive regression. Hope last years success hasn’t gotten to his head. But when I switched back around 80 mins to see us a goal down I felt we might wake up and… Read more »

Ramsey does well from deep in a 4-2-3-1. Zesny, gibbs, debuchy, per, kos. Arteta, Ramsey, Sanchez on the left, ozil in his preferred 10,and theo on the right. Welbeck up front. If only the injuries will allow this my dream team to be on the pitch and gel quickly, teams will always be very worried to face us. But again am not Arsene.
